Bible Answer, 70

~ Did You Get It Right? ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ bible answer ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
question:  What king had a throne made of ivory and overlaid with gold?
answer:  Solomon – 1 Kings 10:18
“And King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of gold went into each shield.  He also made three hundred shields of hammered gold; three minas of gold went into each shield.  The king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.  Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.  The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round at the back; there were armrests on either side of the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the armrests.  Twelve lions stood there, one on each side of the six steps; nothing like this had been made for any other kingdom” (1 Kings 10:16-20).
Question – Jesus, 31
~ Regarding Eternal Life ~
Introduction ~  This series is about questions involving Jesus.  Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth.  Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others.  We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts).  Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.
Scripture  ~  “And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, ‘Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?’  He said to him, ‘What is written in the law?  What is your reading of it?’  So he answered and said, ‘“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,” and “your neighbor as yourself.”’   And He said to him, ‘You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.’  But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbor?’ Then Jesus answered and said: ‘A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.  Now by chance a certain priest came down that road.  And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.  Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.  But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was.  And when he saw him, he had compassion.  So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.  On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, “Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.”  So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?’ And he said, ‘He who showed mercy on him.’  Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise’” (Luke 10:25-37).
God Is My… (Defender), 4
~ God Is My Defender ~
Introduction  ~  Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms.  While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.
Passage  ~  “But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You.  For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield” (Psalm 5:11-12).
Significance  ~  Can you not trust the One who created the entire universe with the details of your little life?
Comment  ~  While the Christian may not understand why God allows certain events to occur in their lives they can be sure that He is sovereign and knows what He is doing.  “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.  For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified” (Romans 8:28-30).
Martyr’s Words
~ If You Were in Prison for Your Faith Would You Write the Following? ~
The following has been reported to have been written in Africa by a man imprisoned for his faith in Jesus Christ—and who was later martyred:
“The dye has been cast.  The decision has been made.  I have stepped over the line.  I won’t look back, let up, slow down, or back away.  My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future secure.  I’m done with low living, sight walking, small planning colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living and dwarfed goals: I no longer need pr-eminence, prosperity, positions, promotions, or popularity.  I don’t have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded.  I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk with patience, live by prayer and labor with power.  My face is set, my goal is Heaven, my road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my Guide is reliable, my mission clear.  I cannot be bought, compromised detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed.  I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity or meander in the maze of mediocrity.  I won’t give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and spoken up for the cause of Christ.  I am a disciple of the lord Jesus Christ.”
Fear God, 161
~ Not All Witnesses to God’s Power Will Fear Him ~
God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “ fear God .”
This Week’s Passage  ~  “I have cut off nations, their fortresses are devastated; I have made their streets desolate, with none passing by.  Their cities are destroyed; there is no one, no inhabitant.  I said, ‘Surely you will fear Me, you will receive instruction’ — so that her dwelling would not be cut off, despite everything for which I punished her.  But they rose early and corrupted all their deeds” (Zephaniah 3:6-7).
Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  “A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.
Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lordis my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lordis the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.
Fearing God Results in Witnessing ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).
Psalm 119, 13of27
~ Read God’s Word To Increase Your Faith ~
119:49 Remember the word to Your servant,Upon which You have caused me to hope.
Comment  ~  The Christian can tolerate whatever comes his or her way because of the “blessed hope” of the Second Coming of Christ for His people.  In reality blessed hope is a misleading term since its Biblical meaning is that it is an absolute certainty.  God is sovereign, good, and faithful—there is a certain future.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.  But let him ask in faith, with no doubting” (James 1:5-6a).
