EXTRA: Be Wise Today

~ FREE Inspiring Books ~

During these days of changed schedules for so many, Abundant Life Now is offering two of the “Christian Concepts Series” eBooks for FREE*.  If you are not sure how to read an eBook on your computer, tablet, or smart phone, note the “Mini Tutorial” at the bottom of this email.
Christian Concepts Series (Timeless Truths – Contemporary Perspectives)
(1)   The Church – Matthew 13:45-46 – FREE* God’s Church : Christ’s Pearl ~ The early parables of Matthew 13 are well known and widely understood.  GOD'S CHURCH: Christ's Pearl is a unique study of one of the later parables, "the one pearl of great price."  After providing a clear exposition of the parable, this landmark book provides a fascinating study with clear lessons for today.  “This is an excellent Bible study.  Mr. Russell really develops insights that I hadn’t appreciated before in One Precious Pearl.  He writes clearly so that the material is easily understood by both clergy and laity.  It was very edifying for me to read.”  ~ William J. Petersen, Emeritus Senior Acquisitions Editor, Baker Book House and Fleming H. Revell (regarding the previous print book – which received 5 literary awards) CLICK HERE FOR God’s Church: Christ’s Pearlto choose your eBook supplier.
(2)   The Christ – 1 John 1:5 – FREE*  God's Nature : Sonlight Sunlight identifies fascinating parallels between natural and spiritual light and contrasts the natural and spiritual light of the world.  Analogies teach profound truth in simple language.  Written in short easily digestible segments.  Think and Grow questions at the end of each chapter make it an ideal small group study. “First there was Tozer with The Knowledge of the Holy, and then Packer gave us Knowing God, and now Russell has taken us further with God Light.  There is a tremendous need for a book on this subject. We have witnessed the publication of many books around the statement “God is Love,” but I cannot recall ever seeing one around the statement “God is Light.” It is important that these two attributes of God be brought into conjunction with each other because it is really impossible to discuss love intelligently without understanding light.”  ~ Dr. Earl D. Radmacher, General Editor Nelson Study Bible/New King James Study Bible (regarding the pervious print version – which won 6 literary awards)CLICK HERE FOR God's Nature: Sonlight Sunlightto choose your eBook supplier.
(3)   The Christian – Psalm 1:3 (Pre-order now, except Amazon – available April 15th) GOD’S CHILD: Like a Tree like the other books in this series, looks at amazing parallels between physical and spiritual realities. “The definitive work on Psalm 1:3.  Mr. Russell has a tremendous gift for analogy.  The most impressive thing is the way he has built off of existing undeniable Scriptural concepts.  I am very impressed with his use of certain Scriptures, such as with regard to trees being deceptive in appearance.  ...  His work is very interesting, very clear, and intensely practical.”   ~ Ronald B. Allen, Senior Professor of Bible Exposition, Dallas Theological Seminary (regarding an early draft of this book) CLICK HERE FOR GOD’S CHILD: Like a Tree to choose your eBook supplier.   Characteristics of all 3 books: ·         Enjoyable and Entertaining reading  ·         Short Easily Digestible Segments ·         Marvel at the Richness of little understood Scripture passages ·         “Subtle Doctrine” – “Inspirational Theology” (reader responses) ·         Think & Grow Questions (great for small groups)
* Amazon does not always honor an author’s free promotion (they sometimes charge $0.99).

MINI-TUTORIAL:  How to read an eBook on your computer, tablet, or smart: You have your choice of FREE eBook apps for your phone (Android or Apple).  The two biggest eBook apps are from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.  They are available for smart devices at your favorite app store. Amazon distributes about two-thirds of all eBooks however Amazon, as noted above, does not always cooperate with authors offering eBooks for free (sometimes refusing to go below $0.99). If you want an Amazon Kindle eBook reader for your computer:  CLICK HERE FOR AMAZON’S “KINDLE” FREE eBOOK READER Barnes & Noble uses a different file structure than Amazon and is the file structure used by almost all other eBook sources.  Barnes & Noble offers their “Nook” reader directly or from your favorite app store, or for your computer:  CLICK HERE FOR BARNES & NOBLE “NOOK” FREE eBOOK READER  Download your choice of eBook apps and then your eBook(s) and you’re ready to read.  Feel free to forward this email to whomever you wish!  P.S.  Did you enjoy your reading?  An online review on the site from which you downloaded your book would be appreciated very much.  Telling your friends about this book would also be very helpful.

Temporary Or Eternal Fool?

~ Death Comes To All: The Wise & The Foolish ~
King David lamented over the death of Abner who had pledged to help make him king over all Israel.  Abner had fallen into a trap set by his enemies and though he could have escaped he was murdered and David lamented, saying, “Should Abner die as a fool dies?
“And the king sang a lament over Abner and said: ‘Should Abner die as a fool dies?  Your hands were not bound nor your feet put into fetters; as a man falls before wicked men, so you fell.’  Then all the people wept over him again” (2 Samuel 3:33-34).
Jim Elliot, a martyred missionary wrote: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”  Jim gave his life in 1956 as a missionary to a then unreached tribe.  But Jim has eternal life with God!
Jesus Christ said, “When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, ‘Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.  For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?  For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels’” (Mark 8:34-38).
What about you?  If you died today by an unexpected event (auto accident, heart attack, etc.) where would you spend eternity?  Are you sure?

Psalm 119, 20of27

~ Read God’s Word To Increase Your Compassion ~
119:32 I will run the course of Your commandments,For You shall enlarge my heart.
Comment  ~  God is a compassionate God.  Jesus Christ demonstrated great compassion throughout His life on earth.  We are to be Christ-like.
“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.  And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.  But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?  My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.  And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.  For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.  Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.  And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.  And this is His commandment: that we shouldbelieve on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment” (1 John 3:16-23).

Question – Jesus, 35

~ Regarding Faithfulness ~
Introduction ~  This series is about questions involving Jesus.  Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth.  Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others.  We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts).  Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.
Scripture  ~  "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?  Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.  Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.  But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites.  There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 24:45-51).

God Is My… (Psalms), 8

~ God Is My Fortress ~
Introduction  ~  Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms.  While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.
Passage  ~  “I will love You, O Lord, my strength.  The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies” (Psalm 18:1-3).
Significance  ~  A fortress implies protection from enemies.  “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39).

Myth, 40

~ Problems Mean You Are Spiritually Lacking ~
Myth  ~  This is a somewhat common myth which is expressed in various ways.  If you believe in Jesus Christ you will have an easy life.  If you are a believer and problems come you do not have enough faith.  A believer in Christ who is having problems is being chastened by God.
Truth  ~  Scripture makes it clear in many places that this is the opposite of reality.
Jesus said, “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.  Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Matthew 5:11-12).
“And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, ‘We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God’” (Acts 14:21-23).
“And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.  But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:22-24).
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.  Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:1-5).
“We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed.  But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings; by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things” (2 Corinthians 6:3-10).
“We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other, so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure” (2 Thessalonians 1:3-4).
“But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven.  Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.  For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: ‘For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.  Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him’” (Hebrews 10:32-38).
“And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.  So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.  And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ” (Acts 5:40-42).

Fear God, 165

~ The Lord Listens to Those Who Fear Him ~
God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “ fear God .”
This Week’s Passage  ~  “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name.  ‘They shall be Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘On the day that I make them My jewels.  And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.’  Then you shall again discern between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him” (Malachi 3:16-18).
Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  “A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.
Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lordis my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lordis the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.
Fearing God Results in Witnessing  ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).

Psalm 119, 19of27

~ Read God’s Word To Learn And Do God’s Will ~
119:29 Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously. 119:30 I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me.
Comment  ~  The more we infuse the Word of God into our thinking and our lives the more we will understand and do the will of God.
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.  Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:15-17).

The Law: Questions, 14of25

~ Was The Law Ever Abolished? ~
Scripture  ~  “For He Himself [Jesus Christ] is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.  And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near.  For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father” (Ephesians 2:14-18).
Comments  ~  Jesus summed up the Law this way:  “Jesus said to him, ‘“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets’” (Matthew 22:37-40).
“So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, ‘Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.  If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.  Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer.  You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, “Where I am going, you cannot come,” so now I say to you.  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:31-35).
Reference  ~  You may be interested in a previous “Abundant Life Now” 14 post series entitled “10 Commandments Today” (from March 1 to June 28, 2018).  “Abundant Life Now” also posted a 12 post series entitled “Law vs. Grace” (from January 22 to December 24, 2013).  The Key Passage in this series is: “Do not think that I [Jesus Christ] came to destroy the Law or the Prophets.  I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17).

Psalm 119, 18of27

~ Read God’s Word To Decrease Our Worldliness ~
119:19 I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me.
119:119 You put away all the wicked of the earth like dross; Therefore I love Your testimonies.
Comment  ~  The world as we know it will fade away.  Only that which is eternal will last.  Scripture warns us about the dangers of worldliness.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world.  And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:15-17).
