Fear God, 197
~ The Fear Of God Leads To Witnessing To Others ~
God does not want His children living in fear. “Grace and peace be multiplied to youin the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3). However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him. We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”
This Week’s Passage ~ “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh” (Jude 20-23).
Fearing God Results in Salvation ~ “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31). “A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16). This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.
Fearing God Results in Fearlessness ~ “The Lordis my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lordis the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1). The answer is: only God. With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.
Fearing God Results in Witnessing ~ “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).

The Ungodly Man, 1of2
~ Those Who Do Not Know God Will Perish ~
Introduction ~ “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish” (Psalm 1:1-6).
12 Characteristics of Some Ungodly People…
Self-Centered ~ “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:1-4).
Not Sober-minded ~ “Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it swirls around smoothly; at the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like a viper. Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart will utter perverse things. Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying: ‘They have struck me, but I was not hurt; they have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink’?” (Proverbs 23:31-35).
Lacks Self-control ~ “A fool [another word for ungodly] vents all his feelings, but a wise man holds them back” (Proverbs 29:11). “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city” (Proverbs 16:32).
Weak Prayer Life ~ “You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures” (James 4:2-3).
Uncontrolled Lust ~ Jesus said, "You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:27-28).
Resents Biblical Reproof ~ “Rebuke is more effective for a wise man than a hundred blows on a fool [another name for an ungodly person]” (Proverbs 17:10).
Pretends To Be Better Than He Is ~ “Having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Timothy 3:5).
Justifies His Own Sin ~ “And Jesus said to them, ‘You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15).
Misrepresents God’s People ~ “Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, ‘Is that you, O troubler of Israel?’ And he answered, ‘I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals’” (1 Kings 18:17-18).
Dwells With Wrong Companions ~ “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful” (Psalm 1:1).
Doesn’t Exercise Godly Leadership in His Home ~ “Then Jezebel his wife said to him, ‘You now exercise authority over Israel! Arise, eat food, and let your heart be cheerful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.’ And she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who were dwelling in the city with Naboth” (1 Kings 21:7-8).
Doesn’t Provide For His Family ~ “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith” (1 Timothy 5:8a).
~ The ungodly currently have their brief time in the sun. The godly will have eternity with the Son(see Psalm 37:2, 20, 35).

Honor Veterans
~ Are You Truly Grateful ~
Today, Veterans Day, please join me in taking a moment to give thanks to God for our fighting men and women, who are sent into some of the most dangerous corners of the world to fight for our freedoms and liberties. Pray for the families of those who gave it all for you!
Jesus said, “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:12-13).
Pray for protection and divine guidance for those on front lines or other areas of danger. Pray for strength and confidence for their families. Give thanks also for our allies like Israel, who stand shoulder to shoulder with us in the war against terrorism and tyranny.

God’s Gifts, 14of15
~ The Gift of Grace ~
God’s Gifts Series ~ God has given mankind many gifts. In this series we will look at just a few of them. There are so many aspects of God’s gifts which we regularly receive and give little or no thought to—such as the air we breathe and the light which enables us to see (and the capability to do both).
Scripture ~ “I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:4-9).
“But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore He says: ‘When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.’ (Now this, ‘He ascended’ — what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)” (Ephesians 4:7-10).
“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given You” (1 Chronicles 29:14).
“For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles — if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power” (Ephesians 3:1-7).
Closing Comment ~ “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15). In one sense God’s “gift” is singular but His gifts are many with many facets (read 9:8-15).

Question – Jesus, 65
~ Regarding Knowledge, 2of3 ~
Introduction ~ This series is about questions involving Jesus. Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth. Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others. We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts). Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.
Scripture ~ “The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, ‘Follow Me.’ Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote — Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’
“And Nathanael said to him, ‘Can anything good come out of Nazareth?’ Philip said to him, ‘Come and see.’
“Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, ‘Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!’ Nathanael said to Him, ‘How do You know me?’
“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.’ Nathanael answered and said to Him, ‘Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!’
“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Because I said to you, “I saw you under the fig tree,” do you believe? You will see greater things than these.’ And He said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man’” (John 1:43-51).

God Is My… (Psalms), 36
~ God Is My Hiding Place ~
Introduction ~ Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms. While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.
Passage ~ “For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in a flood of great waters they shall not come near him. You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:6-7).
Significance ~ David, the Psalmist didn’t say that God was a hiding place but rather, “You are my hiding place.” God is not everyone’s hiding place but rather a hiding place for those who have a personal relationship with Him.

Myth, 70
~ The Bible Teaches Women Cannot Lead ~
Introduction ~ This area of doctrine has various interpretations by individuals and by denominations. This author believes that allScripture is inspired and to be obeyed. However, that does not mean those with differing interpretations shouldn’t enjoy great Christian fellowship with one another.
Key Passage ~ The Apostle Paul gave clear instructions: “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man” (1 Timothy 2:12a).
Key Things To Note ~ This is a very clear statement. Look at what the statement does not say: “I do not permit a woman to be an elder” or any other such narrow limitation. No it says “to teach or to have authority” which is very broad in scope.
Paul’s Explanation ~ In this passage the Spirit of God spoke through Paul with the reasoning behind this command. “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression” (1 Timothy 2:12-14).
Ministry Implications ~ For those who believe the Word of God to be truth this passage has serious implications regarding how we “do church.”
Reference ~ For those who struggle with this teaching it may be helpful to read an earlier post in this series entitled, “Myth, 67: The Bible Teaches Man’s Superiority Over Women.”

Fear God, 196
~ Witnessing To Others Should Be With A Fear of God ~
God does not want His children living in fear. “Grace and peace be multiplied to youin the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3). However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him. We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”
This Week’s Passage ~ “And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. ‘And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.’ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil” (1 Peter 3:13-17).

Bible Answer, 78
~ Did You Get It Right? ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~ bible answer ~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
question: Where was the first recorded cemetery?
answer: Mamre (Hebron) in Canaan
“And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him, ‘My lord, listen to me; the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver. What is that between you and me? So bury your dead.’ And Abraham listened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed out the silver for Ephron which he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, currency of the merchants. So the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field and the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, which were within all the surrounding borders, were deeded to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city. And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan. So the field and the cave that is in it were deeded to Abraham by the sons of Heth as property for a burial place” (Genesis 23:14-20).
Bible Mystery, 9of17
~ The Mystery of Christ and The Church ~
Introduction ~ Do you love a good mystery? If so, then you should love reading the Bible. The Scriptures are full of good mysteries! An important factor to keep in mind when exploring Biblical mysteries is that the word mystery in Scripture has a root meaning of previously withheld. Biblical mysteries were previously unexplained—but now are revealed to God’s immediate family.
Scripture ~ “For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband” (Ephesians 5:30-33).
Comment ~ The Church is seen in the New Testament as the Bride of Christ. It is fitting that we have a reminder from Genesis that God’s plan is for a married couple to no longer be two individuals but rather one unified whole. This is emphasized with the fact that in God’s economy the husband should love his wife in the same way that Christ loves His Church. Collectively the Church is Christ’s Bride.
This is how Jesus prayed to His Father regarding the members of His Church: “That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me” (John 17:21-23).
The Bottom Line ~ Will you study the Word of God and apply it to your life? Or will you waste your time on earth and the many opportunities which God gives to you. The mysteries of Scripture are revealed to the children of God who seek to please Him. As you comprehend the mysteries contained in the Word of God you will possess understanding and wisdom with regard to current world events. Time is short, if you are not already on God’s side, I urge you to climb on board before it is forever too late.
Resource ~ For a unique and inspirational look at the Church consider obtaining a copy of the low cost eBook “GOD’S CHURCH; Christ’s Pearl”. (https://books2read.com/GodsChurch).
