Question – Jesus, 67

 ~ Regarding Lack ~

Introduction ~  This series is about questions involving Jesus.  Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth.  Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others.  We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts).  Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.

Scripture  ~  “And He said to them, ‘When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?’  So they said, ‘Nothing.’

“Then He said to them, ‘But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.  For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: “And He was numbered with the transgressors.”  For the things concerning Me have an end.’

“So they said, ‘Lord, look, here are two swords.’  And He said to them, ‘It is enough’” (Luke 22:35-38).

Comment  ~  The child of God will never lack what he needs.  “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.  Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever.  Amen” (Philippians 4:19-20).

God Is My… (Psalms), 38

~ God Is My Serenader ~

Introduction  ~  Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms.  While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.

Passage  ~  “For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in a flood of great waters they shall not come near him.  You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:6-7).

Comment  ~  My dad was killed right at my first birthday.  Mom raised three small kids. In the summers when school was out of session we lived with an aunt and uncle.  One of my most vivid childhood memories is of my aunt singing me to sleep each night.  Her soothing voice calmed me allowing to go to sleep confidently.  This is the image that comes to my mind when I think of God serenading His people.

Myth, 72

~ There Is No Devil ~

Premise  ~  Like so many spiritual realities the root issue is whether one believes the Bible to be the inspired Word of God as it claims – or even if there is a God.  But throughout history millions have discovered the truth and testify to it.

Scripture  ~  Jesus said, “Why do you not understand My speech?  Because you are not able to listen to My word.  You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.  He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.  But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me” (John 8:43-45).

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.  Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.  But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.  To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever.  Amen” (1 Peter 5:6-11).

Fear God, 198

~ In The End Those Who See The Resurrected Witnesses Will Fear God ~

God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to youin the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”

This Week’s Passage  ~  “Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them.  And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, ‘Come up here.’  And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.  In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell.  In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven” (Revelation 11:11-13).

Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  “A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.

Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lordis my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lordis the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.

Fearing God Results in Witnessing  ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).

Ungodly Man, 2of2

~ The Ungodly Person Can Be A Godly Person! ~

Introduction  ~  “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law he meditates day and night.  He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.  The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.  For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish” (Psalm 1:1-6).

5 Aspects of the Process of Spiritual Growth and Progression…

As a Seed (in steadiness)   ~  “And He [Jesus] said, ‘The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how’” (Mark 4:26-27).

As a Lily (in lowliness)  ~  “He shall grow like the lily, and lengthen his roots” (Hosea 14:5b).

As a Cedar (in strength)  ~  “The righteous … shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon” (Psalm 92:12).

As a Palm (in uprightness)  ~  “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree” (Psalm 92:12a).

As a Vine (in fruitfulness)  ~  “Those who dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall be revived like grain, and grow like a vine.  Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon” (Hosea 14:7).

3 Progressions While Living On Earth…

From Faith to Faith  ~  “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.  For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith’” (Romans 1:16-17).

From Strength to Strength  ~  “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. … They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion” (Psalm 84:5-7).

From Glory to Glory  ~  “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Closing Comment  ~  The ungodly currently have their brief time in the sun.  The godly will have eternity with the Son(see Psalm 37:2, 20, 35).

Bible Mystery, 10of17

~The Mystery of The Gospel ~

Introduction  ~  Do you love a good mystery?  If so, then you should love reading the Bible. The Scriptures are full of good mysteries!  An important factor to keep in mind when exploring Biblical mysteries is that the word mystery in Scripture has a root meaning of previously withheld.  Biblical mysteries were previously unexplained—but now are revealed to God’s immediate family.

Scripture ~  “And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak” (Ephesians 6:19-20).

Comment  ~  Paul concludes his Epistle to the Ephesians by referring them back to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  This “Good News” was not revealed during the Old Testament period.  Yes, they looked forward to the coming Messiah – the concept and details of the Gospel was not yet revealed.

The Gospel is the record of Jesus Christ.  His virgin birth, His humanity, His sinless life, His sacrificial death for our sins, and most importantly His resurrection.  John explains it well in that well-known passage in his Gospel:

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man [Jesus Christ] be lifted up [on the Cross], that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God” (John 3:14-21).

The Bottom Line  ~  Will you study the Word of God and apply it to your life?  Or will you waste your time on earth and the many opportunities which God gives to you.  The mysteries of Scripture are revealed to the children of God who seek to please Him.  As you comprehend the mysteries contained in the Word of God you will possess understanding and wisdom with regard to current world events.  Time is short, if you are not already on God’s side, I urge you to climb on board before it is forever too late.

God’s Gifts, 15of15

~ None of God’s Gifts Can Be Purchased ~

God’s Gifts Series  ~  God has given mankind many gifts.  In this series we will look at just a few of them.  There are so many aspects of God’s gifts which we regularly receive and give little or no thought to—such as the air we breathe and the light which enables us to see (and the capability to do both).

Important Series Concluding Note  ~  NONE of God’s gifts can be purchased or earned by anyone.  The price was fully paid by Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary — “It is finished!” (John 19:30).  Nothing more can be added.  This is a great differential between Christianity and ALL other religions.  The work of salvation is DONE and there is nothing that a person can DO to earn their salvation.

Scripture  ~  “And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, ‘Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.’  But Peter said to him, ‘Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!  You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.  Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.  For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity’” (Acts 8:18-23).

“But the free gift is not like the offense.  For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.  And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned.  For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification.  For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:15-17).

“Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous actthe free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life [individuals have to accept that gift]” (Romans 5:18-19).

Closing Comment  ~  “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15).  In one sense God’s “gift” is singular but His gifts are many with many facets (read 9:8-15).

Important Concluding Comment  ~  God has granted a great many “grace gifts” to individuals who have accepted salvation through His Son Jesus Christ.  A major category of these grace gifts are commonly called “spiritual gifts.”  Another major category are often referred to as “natural abilities.”  Abundant Life Now will soon begin a series on the major spiritual gifts (literally grace gifts).

 ~ Regarding Knowledge, 3of3 ~

Introduction ~  This series is about questions involving Jesus.  Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth.  Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others.  We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts).  Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.

Scripture  ~  “Nicodemus answered and said to Him, ‘How can these things be?’

Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?  Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.  If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?  No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:9-17).

Comment  ~  How’s your knowledge?  Do you understand the above passage?  Have you personally been born again?

Myth, 71

~ The Role of Men and Women Should Change with the Culture ~

A Foolish Thought  ~  Sometimes you hear a person say, “There are no absolutes!”  This is a foolish and paradoxical statement.  First, it contradicts itself since it is stated as an absolute.  Second, if the absolutes of mathematics, physics, and so forth were not absolutes the world as we know it would be in chaos.

God’s Nature Doesn’t Change!  ~  "For I am the Lord, I do not change” {Malachi 3:6a).

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines.  For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them” (Hebrews 13:8-9).

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17).

God’s Requirements Don’t Change!  ~  Jesus Christ put it this way, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets.  I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.  For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled” (Matthew 5:17-18).
