Internal Deadlines – The Climb #936

Wednesday 15th September 2021

One of my favourite thing to do is look at other writers’ processes.  I love that the craft of writing is so diverse and individual, and I love hearing how someone’s process is completely different to mine.

I’ve been feeling better today after yesterday’s mysterious illness (no, it wasn’t Covid.  I checked).  Someone said it might have been the weather as yesterday was a very wet and miserable autumn day.  I don’t think so, as whilst my energy levels have been a b...

Chapter 6

Gynea wasn’t feeling very well.

She felt like her belly was rolling down a hill. Her head spun and she thought she might be sick at any moment. And to top it all off, she could feel a lump on her shoulder. She must have knocked it being transported to the estate. It burnt like crazy and was hot to the touch.

At this moment all she wanted to do was stay still, not be drag...

Pressing The Advantage – The Climb #935

Monday 14th September 2021

I woke up feeling very under the weather.  It felt similar to how I do just before I come down with flu or a cold.  It was enough for me to do a covid test, just in case.  Thankfully, that was negative.

But if I have picked something up, then I don’t know where from.  Since changing my nutrition I don’t even pop across the road to the shops at lunchtime.

It meant I felt really unproductive.  I had hoped to use today to plan this week’s Write Productively video but I...

Chapter 5

“Hey Red,” said Andrews.

“Andrews,” Redajinn replied with a nod from inside the confines of the cell he shared with the others.

The cell at the Quentin estate was rudimentary. It was little more than a iron cage in one corner of the storage barn. Other than the odd poacher, or drunken serf, the cell rarely got used. Redajinn suspected that he’d been in it more than most.

“What they got you in for this ti...

The Third Act – The Climb #934

Monday 13th September 2021

As the season changes from summer to autumn / fall so I’m starting to look at some of my projects I’ve started this year and towards getting them complete.

I’ve done a lot, and over the summer I’ve been juggling a number of projects, grinding through the middle.  I’ve not always felt productive, but to be honest it’s difficult to see progress when you’re in the thick of it.  It’s only when you get those projects complete that you can really appreciate the work.

Obvi...

Chapter 4

Laird Quentin sighed.

“Is this all really necessary?” he asked McArthur.

The actuary bowed low still offering the book.

“I merely wish my laird to know the risks and hardships we face in the months ahead.”

Quentin sat on the uncomfortable seat at the top of his audience room. His grandfather had commissioned it when they’d remodeled the estate, giving it the air – to anyone visiting – of approaching a king o...

WRITE PRODUCTIVELY – What Is Toxic Productivity?

As anyone knows, I’m big on productivity.  I’ve always wanted to be able to get more done in less time, and have constantly tried to build systems a find lifehacks to help me in my neverending quest to get more words written.

I’m lucky because as a writer, volume of words is always tempered by quality, and I have stats to show me that my quality drops if I drive myself too hard.  But toxic productivity is a thing that we need to recognise and try and combat.  I try and avoid saying I’m trying to...

City Founder – The Climb #933

Sunday 12th September 2021

If yesterday was all about Fortnite, then today has been about Minecraft.

That’s not strictly true as there was the end of season event tonight in Fortnite which I managed to get into and really enjoyed.

But for the most part, after yesterday’s Fortnite grind, today, I chilled in Minecraft and watched some Netflix as I did so.  I love that I have 2 screens and can watch TV and play a game at the same time.

So I watched White Chapel Farm (it’s an old BBC or ITV drama...

Weekend Off – The Climb #932

Saturday 11th September 2021

I made the decision to take this weekend off.   I had a really busy week this week and whilst next week won’t be AS busy, it’s still going to be pretty hectic.  So, not to burn myself out, I decided that having a proper weekend for a change was in order.

Today was very much focused on Fortnite.

I started playing after C and I were trying to find ways to keep his nephew entertained one weekend and the nephew was hugely into it.  We kept it going for some time but a...

Virtual Safe Space – The Climb #931

Friday 10th September 2021

I get a bit pissy with people when they start talking shit about safe spaces.  We’ve all had those places of peace, whether it be sat alone on a beach, or in the garden with a beer, or online.  I don’t think it’s a bad thing having more places where people feel at peace and can unwind.

For me, the place I always used to escape to was Azeroth and World of Warcraft.  Whenever I had a tough day, I’d go log on, unwind and get so immersed in the world that I forgot my pro...
