Adding To The Toolbox – The Climb #943
I think this week is going to be very light on writing. I’ve been busy sorting out my kitchen today and haven’t found the time to write. That’s OK. The plan for this week was always to prioritise other things.
I worked out how to get my smart speakers to multicast to different rooms so that as I work, or as I take a break to do a bit of Minecraft, I’ve had an audiobook going. So I guess I am reading as I work.
I’m also learning.
I’m fascinated by craft. I don’t thin...

Cinema Trip – The Climb #942
I went to the cinema for the first time in what felt like years. I’ve had a think back and I honestly can’t think what the last movie I saw in the cinema was. Probably Avengers Endgame in 2019.
I always said that when I moved I would go to the cinema all the time. I have no excuse, having not one but two cinemas in walking distance of my house, but I seem to only go when there’s a big Star Wars or Marvel release (and then I miss some of those). Maybe once the pandemic...

A Different Week – The Climb #941
So this week is going to be a little different.
I’ve got a bunch of things to do around the house that I’ve been putting off and can’t do so any longer.
Usually my focus is on the writing and everything else comes second. But I’m not sure what happens if I swap things around. Would I write more if my focus was elsewhere and I was stressing about it less?
Because I do stress. I’ve written loads this year. I still have loads to write, and I make progress but I do...

Caffeine Withdrawal – The Climb #940
One of the things I want to do as part of my return to health journey is to give up caffeine. I am a complete caffeine addict and I know why. When you suffer varying energy levels, it’s a useful crutch to get you through the day. It smooths over those energy lulls.
The problem is the amount I consume. I go from enjoying a drink with caffeine, to needing it to getting me through the day, to becoming addicted.
And the worst part is that coming off it is doubly rou...

Chill Day – The Climb #939
Today was a pretty chill day. After completing my two weeks of video / livestream, I’m looking forward to having a more relaxed schedule. My writing suffered a little due to the focus on video but I was prepared to take the short term hit in order to get the ball rolling on these projects after so long of planning them.
Next week also plans to be a strange week. I plan to focus on a few things around the house rather than writing. Writing will still get done, b...

Chapter 9
Drummond had never had so many people intently watching him eat.
He tried to ignore them and savour the taste of the blue fruit they’d pulled from the first tear. After months of living on rabbit, hare and occasional deer, he relished having something sweet. As much as he liked the winter berries that would start to appear with the first frost in a few weeks, they always gave him gas....
Birthday Money – The Climb #938
As many of you know, in a previous life I used to be very active in the collectibles world. I ran a site called Action-Figure which focused on bringing all the latest collectible news from around the globe. I got to travel. I met some amazing people. And I got to see a lot of cool toys.
My childhood was filled with Star Wars and G I Joe / Action Force but over the years running A-F whilst I got sent and bought a lot of toys, there were only a few lines I truly co...

Chapter 8
Marli watched as her huge mutant arm crumbled to dust. Around her, she saw the same happening to the others. She looked over to where the remains of the soldiers had laid before being covered by the carcasses of the creatures. Those soldiers had exploded, Freeman said. Was that what would happen to them now?
She looked around at the others, each with similar concern on their face, as a coup...
Low Energy Days – The Climb #937
As a rule, I try not to be negative. It can be hard sometimes. Suffering with chronic illness means that some days I just feel drained and as a result, am out of positivity spoons.
I’ve not been feeling myself this week. The closest I can describe it is how you feel that day before you come down with a cold. Your body is trying to tell you something but you’re not sure what.
I’ve learnt to take special notice of this. In terms of my day to day, it’s not havi...

Chapter 7
From out of the dark corners of the cave scuttled a host of the ant-like creatures. The soldiers guarding Gynea and her friends stepped forwards, spears raised, to meet the colony as they flooded out the tear and into the audience room.
The soldiers were joined by their comrades who’d been looking over the bodies of those that had exploded. Laird Quentin and McArthur backed away.
Gynea screamed...
