Starting To Clear The Backlog – The Climb #722
It’s still very early days but I think the iPad is helping my productivity. I found myself sat on the support bubble sofa today, dipping in and out of tasks. Even if I wasn’t completing them I was making progress on them. And best of all, a lot of these were long running tasks that have just sat around in my ToDo list for ages.
Obviously, new toys get played with a lot more, but I do think the iPad is going to help me.
It made me realise that I’ve had tasks backing...

I Want To Change My Editing Process – The Climb #721
As the title suggests, I want to radically alter my approach to editing. In some ways this has been building in the background over the past few months.
I’ve long had this thing where I write in Scrivener and then edit in MS Word. I also write short stories and non-fiction articles in Word. A large part of this is that comments and tracked changes don’t work in Scrivener. There’s also something about the forced separation of it that I like.
However, it makes rewrite...

I Caved In – The Climb #720
I am a weak-willed individual.
After fighting the lure of new technology and tools, I caved in. I will now plead my case with the court.
I’m not happy with my productivity at the moment. I don’t believe people are robots or that sustained hyper-productivity is healthy. But, I know what I’m capable of. And now’s a time when I really, really want to be having a burst of productivity.
I AM sorta being productive. I’ve got a LOT of things done during the pandemic. ...

Striving For Elegant Progress – The Climb #719
It’s been a busy day here in the Faulkner household. Ordinarily this would be my day for doing a bunch of weekly Warcraft tasks but I had an IT seminar this morning. I’m not sure that I’m ever going to need this information but in IT it’s very easy for your technical knowledge to get out of date.
I made a bunch of notes, but there was part of me that wondered if I’d ever look at them again. My big problem was that the instructors were obviously giving overviews ra...

Holding Onto Soon – The Climb #718
We’re in the situation in the UK where we’re in lockdown. After Covid cases rocketing after Xmas, and new variants being discovered, we’ve effectively been told to stay home except for essentials.
In many ways, if we had to have a lockdown, now’s the best time. It’s the height of winter and it’s just too cold to go out.
Yet, as we approach nearly a year of the pandemic, there’s something a little wearing. I had always expected this second wave. Heck, my family cance...

New Year, New Tools – The Climb #717
I fall for this every year! I get past the financial glut that is January when everyone is poor, reach February, and start craving new tools.
I tell myself that if ONLY I had some device or other then my work would benefit. I’d be able to do X, or be able to do Y more efficiently.
Nine times out of ten it’s a trick your brain plays in order to justify procrastination. I can write with just a basic computer and notepad if I needed.
The trick is to identify the itch tha...

Pokemon Go Roselia Community Day – The Climb #716
This has to be the least participation I’ve ever had in a community day. It was the turn of Roselia to have a community day today, yet despite evolves having two special exclusive moves, I did the research and was basically done.
I probably played, at most, an hour or two. I didn’t even use incense for most of it.
I’m enjoying certain aspects of Pokemon Go currently, but that’s because I’m dipping and out of it. Outside of events, I’m not really doing much. We’ve ju...

The Comics Binge – The Climb #715
I have had a real craving for comics the last couple of days.
I tend to be a comics binger. I’ll go ages without reading a single comic and then I want to binge read not only an entire trade, but an entire event as well.
I love the idea of interconnected storytelling. I love these big canvases with interweaving stories. It’s partly why I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But moreso, I love these big Marvel events where all the various comic books come together fo...

Pitch Perfect Editing – The Climb #714
I’m still absolutely shattered today. Whilst I didn’t have any more seminars, staying up until about 5am the last 3 nights have put my sleep schedule all out of whack, even after catching up on missing sleep.
As a result, today was a bit of a nothing day. I look at it in kinda the same way I look at the day after a big tournament or geocaching walk. It’s all part of the achievement. In order to do what you have the previous day, there’s a price to pay. Yes, today’s...

Netflix And Sell – The Climb #713
I’ve been a wreck today.
I’m doing a series of courses this week from Netflix on scriptwriting. It’s not that I’m focused on writing scripts right now but that the opportunity came up and given how I really want to know more about the industry… I took the opportunity to learn.
The problem is that the sessions are being run virtually at 7:30pm PST, which means 3:30am in the morning. It’s only 3 days so I figure I can cope with fucking up my sleep schedule for a few n...
