Gaming Day – The Climb #702

Sunday 24th January 2021

Because this has been a wobbly week, I’ve tried to be a bit kind with myself this weekend.  I’ve enjoyed good food, watched TV and played some games.

Today there was a Mareep incense day.  I did the original community day years back so this was of little interest to me… except that I needed a minum and plusle for my collection challenge.  I played an hour to get those and then logged off.  I’m actually quite enjoying these collection challenges.  I just don’t like it whe...

Need For Structure – The Climb #701

Saturday 23rd January 2021

After yesterday’s wobble,  I’m taking it easy today.  I’ve toyed with the idea of keeping my weekend’s free of tasks and I’ve tried the last few weeks to schedule everything for during the week.  However, inevitably, things that should have got done, haven’t been, and as a result, tasks from the week end up bleeding into the weekend.

I do feel I need a bit more structure to my week.  Currently, I do have themes for each day which allow for easier scheduling of tasks.  ...

Anxiety Attack – The Climb #700

Friday 22nd January 2021

I feel I’ve weathered the pandemic pretty well.  I have plenty of activities to keep me busy round the house:  from working through to writing  to gaming to one day finishing gluing all the Shadows of Brimstone miniatures I have.  I have my support bubble and get to spend part of the day with company.  I have social media and telephone to keep in touch with friends and loved ones further afield.  And I have shops close by that allow me to get essential goods.

Whilst othe...

Erratic Productivity – The Climb #699

Thursday 21st January 2020

It’s hard to remember that we are only 3 weeks into January.  It already feels like 5 months.  And as such, maybe I shouldn’t feel quite so frustrated.  Things are getting done, goals are being progressed, but each day feels like a mess, a period of chaotic progress, and non-optimal productivity.

Now, I’m not idiot enough to expect perfect productivity from myself every single day… but I’d like occasional splashes of it.  I genuinely don’t feel I’ve been productivie at...

Burndown – Warcraft Wednesday – The Climb #698

Wednesday 20th January 2021

With the covenant campaign over and gearing slowing right down, the anticipated Warcraft burndown has arrived.

I see this as a good thing.  I’m definitely not fed up with Warcraft or planning to stop playing, but today – the day I typically spend the majority of it doing the new renown on two characters – was done in a couple of hours.  I didn’t even complete the anima quest on one of them, planning instead to finish it off over the next week.

I’m slowing down because...

A Nothing Day – The Climb #697

Tuesday 19th January 2020

Some days are nothing days, when you do a bunch of stuff not none of them seem to be the key achievement or piece of learning that day.

I finished reading The Invisible Lives of Addie LaRue.  I didn’t feel like I read a whole bunch in 2020 and as such I’ve put more of an effort into it this year.  This was an audiobook and one I really enjoyed.  The narrator was really good and I’ve been listening to it as I grind out levels on another alt in World of Warcraft.

I’d hope...

The Year Of Voice? – The Climb #696

Monday 18th January 2021

If 2020 was the year where I really dived into the craft of theme, then it’s looking like 2021 is the year I dive into the craft of voice.

As you may know, I’ve been struggling with this first draft.  I’ve got better over the years at letting a first draft be crap.  There was a time I’d want one chapter perfect before moving onto the next.  I’d like to be at a stage where I don’t care how bad a draft is.  I’m not quite there yet but I know all too well just how much can ...

Career Paths – The Climb #695

Sunday 17th January 2021

I’ve been thinking a lot about writing careers recently.  It might seem a bit presumptuous, but I’ve been asking myself what type of writer I want to be.

You have to be adaptable as a writer.  It’s part of the reason I do the occasional short story or script.  It’s not only a bit of a break, but also a way to expand your skill.  I’ve seen friends who’ve written fantasy move to other genres.  I don’t want to be disingenuous and say that it was motivated purely by the mark...

Pokemon Go Machop Community Day – The Climb #694

Saturday 16th January 2021

I think I’m slowly getting back into Pokemon Go again.  As I’ve said in the past, some of the decisions taken by Niantic in the past 6 months have left me so angry that it spoilt the enjoyment of the game for me.

However, I kinda like the new collection challenges.  Instead of a bunch of tasks to spin so many stops or do so many battles, it gets back to the basics of catching Pokemon, focusing on event spawns.

If I’m working, I’ve got a great little set up where I can ...

My 2021 Reading Challenge – The Climb #693

Friday 15th January 2021

One of the things I really want to do more of in 2021 is read.  Whilst other areas of my writing profession have been sporadic, they have at least had moments of productivity.  Reading, however, is something that suffered.  I just couldn’t get my head into books in 2021.  Even big titles I had been looking forward to, like the Dresden Books, proved to be a bit of a challenge.

So I’ve set myself a challenge to read more.  This includes both physical / ebooks as well as au...
