Up Periscope…
Briefly emerging from my hidey hole, where I've been super busy with edits and revisions and reworkings and many good things. Yes. Writing has been going well, finally!
Also of the good variety:
Phone calls from New York. These always make me happy!
Mr. Horse is looking healthy. Maybe the worst is over?
Onions have been planted in the garden. I think I'm going to chance putting in some cold weather veggies this weekend.
My Writers' Union of Canada membership card arrived today. I iz real...

The Nemesis Novel
So. Last night, I dug out a rewritten chapter of the Nemesis Novel and read through it. And was not happy. At all.
The note I wrote to myself was: this feels contrived and anemic.
And then, I went to bed, hoping that sleep would either change my mind or deliver some insight in what to do with this Nemesis Novel.

A PSA for the horsey set
In case people of the horsey set haven't heard, Courtney King, a Grand Prix dressage rider and Olympian, has been badly injured after, according to the reports, the horse she was riding took a minor slip.

February Reads
Coventry by Helen Humphreys, a slim novel about the bombing of…well, Coventry. Harrowing, and yet…not quite as immersing as I had hoped. Oh well.
Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass. This was a useful book on a craft level, so I'll be revisiting it. More than that, it substantially increased my to-be-read pile!
Booklife by Jeff Vandermeer. Another useful book that answered a lot of questions about living a writer's life. Also, I was pleased to find an interview it with with my...

An Oops
I don't claim to be proficient with computers. And tonight, while I was trying to update my Goodreads account, I hit the wrong button and accidentally sent email invites to every single email in my address book. All I was trying to do was sync my Facebook and Goodreads accounts! Ack!
Anyhow, if you received an invite, please accept my apologies. Spamming my email contacts, even inadvertently, is very bad form!

…are all reasons Canadians can be proud of the Olympic opening ceremonies. It wasn't glitzy (thank goodness!), but it was very Canadian.
But, the reason I am most proud: the four chiefs of the local First Nations were given...
