Good News for a Friday
Just received word that On Spec magazine has bought my short story "Thought and Memory" – hooray!
I think, though I'll have to double check to be sure, that means I need to write some more short stories as I don't have any left to sell.
Guess I'd better get to work…

Today, down at the water's edge: a photo essay
Since I was feeling almost normal this afternoon, I decided to go for a walk down by the ocean. This is what I saw:

A Day in the Writing Life
The 2011 debut group on Livejournal has a weekly "Day in the Writing Life" feature, and today, it's my turn to share. So, I figured while I was posting over there, I'd post here too…
For my Day in the Writing Life post, I thought I'd give you all a virtual tour of my offices!
First, the Official Office…
Note how neat and tidy my desk is (mostly). Heh. That's because I cleaned it up especially for this post. Most days, it looks like a bomb went off, which, I believe, is a sign of a genius a...

Back from Vacation!
So, the husband and I had an excellent time visiting California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. I'll be posting a variety of photos from the trip over the next while, but first, laundry, and email, and grocery shopping, and all the sundry things that one needs to do upon returning from home. Oh, and I've got a "best of" post planned, which includes my first visit to a Michelin rated restaurant (and yowza, talk about yum!).
In the meantime, here's a photo taken by the husband: Mount Shasta, ...

Radio Silence, and Bid on my Critique!
Tomorrow I head off on vacation until the end of the month, so radio silence will continue around these parts. But, upon my return, I've got a whole bunch of blog posts planned, dealing with craft and writing practice and that sort of thing. Hopefully they'll be of help to someone!
In the meantime, a group of writerly friends are organizing an auction to help with the relief effort in Nashville. I'm offering up a 25 page critique for auction, and I'm pretty nervous that no one will bid on i...

April Reads
1. HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – J.K. Rowling (from a writer's perspective, it was interesting to see how Rowling's writing has matured from the first book. I think this was my favorite of the series…)
2. SONG OF THE SPARROW – Lisa Ann Sandell (hmm. I have thoughts about these novels-in-verse. Seems to me that most of them are prose arranged prettily on the page. Not to say that this wasn't a good read – I found it very enjoyable – but I do wonder what, aside from the formatting, ...

Farm Day
Hard to believe that this endearing moment led to this:
…and this:
I'm not sure whether Will thinks Fitzy the donkey stinks really good, or stinks really bad, but either way, he clearly stinks!

March Reads
1. The Magician's Elephant – Kate diCamillo (a lovely, lovely book, but then, it's Kate diCamillo. Of course it's lovely!)
2. Heal Your Body – Louise L. Hay (a bit woo-woo, but nonetheless, surprisingly insightful…)
3. Spirits of the Earth – Bobby Lake-Thorn (wasn't sure when I took this out from the library, but it turned out to be very useful for the SHADOWS revisions…)
4. The Night Tourist – Katherine Marsh (great cover art…as for the content, I'm invoking Thumper's Edict…)
5. The Natural...

So!
Stage one of the post-editorial-letter revisions are complete. Stage two due to commence tomorrow.
Visuals will provided in coming days, along with an explanation of how I tackled all the stuff contained in my very first editorial letter (which may not be of interest to anyone but me, but oh well. There you go).
Stay tuned!
