Don't let your dreams drift away.
Don't let your dreams drift away.
Reach for them, even if it is one baby step at a time.
What is your big dream or goal? What is one small step you can take today to move toward it?

Becoming an author is a choice
There are so many choices facing authors today: This cover or that cover? Fiction or nonfiction? With a publisher or self-publishing? Hardcover or paperback? Go it alone or hire a coach? Write it myself or hire a ghostwriter? No wonder so many books are left unwritten! I’m working on something now that will make those choices so much less daunting. Drop a comment if you want to be on the early notification list.

Walking in someone else's shoes
Malorie Blackman, a British writer who held the position of Children's Laureate from 2013 to 2015, once said, “Reading is an exercise in empathy, an exercise in walking in someone else’s shoes for a while.
Whether you are reading fiction or nonfiction, you are provided the opportunity to experience empathy. When you feel what the main character feels, you have just walked in another person’s shoes, and it doesn’t matter if that person exists in the real world or not.

Back-End Marketing for Authors
Back-end marketing is an effective way to build a business around your book.
However, since a book being sold at a bookstore or on Amazon doesn’t provide the same opportunities for this type of marketing as do information products you sell on your own site, how do authors leverage the power of back-end marketing?

Get your story out of your head and into a book
There is so much wisdom in the world. Alas, much of it dies away because it is not documented. Now that books are so much easier to get out into the world, there is no reason that you need to take your wisdom to the grave.

Leave a legacy
This may sound scary or morbid, but today is #PlanYourEpitaphDay
I think this gives you the perfect opportunity to dream about what you want your legacy to be, and then start to do the things you need to do to leave that legacy.
Ben Franklin once said, “If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.
As authors, we are in the perfect position to not only, as Franklin says, write something worth reading, but also—simultaneously—do something worth writing about.

Connect with your local library
Not long ago, I got a mini-tour of the “technology” room in my local library. I was in awe.
They have a 3D printer.
They have a button maker.
They have computers, and sewing machines, and a laminator.
Oh my gosh, I wanted to play with all the gadgets! Libraries are da bomb!
Today is National Library Day and the theme this year is “Connect with Your Library” – so check your local library out. You might be just as surprised as I was with what you’ll find there.

The many hats indie authors wear
It can be challenging to be an independent author. You must wear many hats and juggle many responsibilities. Indie authors often feel like they're playing a game of whack-a-mole, trying to keep up with all the different aspects of their job.
Understanding the different roles, you must play is a big step forward in helping you succeed as an independent author. This post will point out all those roles so that you can start to juggle all those responsibilities like a pro.

We are all creative
According to DaysOfTheYear.com, #PoetryAndTheCreativeMindDay has been set aside to honor the creative minds of poets and artists throughout history.
Although I think this is laudable in concept, I believe there is a flaw in the underlying thinking about this. It assumes that not all people have creative minds. And that simply is NOT the case.
Everyone is creative, albeit in different ways. As I often say in my C.A.R.M.A. Code presentation, creativity is an innate part of being human. Every one of us is creative. We are creative whenever we are facing a problem and must overcome it. We are creative when we make our lunch. We are creative whenever we do something that we haven't done before.
Therefore, I'd like to suggest that you celebrate YOUR creative mind, in whatever way that creativity is expressed.
PS: You can watch a 6-minute version of the C.A.R.M.A. Code presentation here: https://youtu.be/ywpEhNRf1ZA.
