The tools of the squeeze page

Last week, I did an impromptu demonstration speech on how to set up a squeeze page. In this excerpt from that presentation, I explain what a squeeze page is and the tools you’ll need to set one up.

One thing I left out of this presentation is that you’ll also need some method to create a web page. this can be software such as DreamWeaver (which I use) or even a content management system such as WordPress. I know people who love using the “Optimize Press” theme for Wordpress because it makes ma...

Have you invited them in?

In this excerpt of my “The 5 Deadly Mistakes of Home Page Design” presentation, I explain what the third deadly mistake is:

Be careful of your domain

Because your domain name is an integral part of your brand, you need to make sure that it gives a good first impression. But what you intend it to say may not be what people actually see. For example, my user name on Twitter and Facebook is “CarmaP” … but when you see it in all lower case letters, it looks like “CarMap.” This example isn’t that big of a deal, but check out some of the ones I shared in this excerpt from my “The 5 Deadly Mistakes of Home Page Design” presentation:

How to get on someone else’s stage

carma spence and lee poundLast night, Lee Pound spoke at District 1 Toastmaster’s Speaker’s Bureau bout “Creating Your Own Opportunities.” Because the audience was speakers and emerging speakers, he was talking about creating your own speaking opportunities, but what he had to say could be applied to more than just speaking opps. Are you clear about the purpose of your website?

The first deadly mistake of home page/landing page/website design is not being clear on the purpose of the page/site. If you don’t know what it is supposed to do, how do you know that it is successful? I recently gave my “5 Deadly Mistakes of Home Page Design” presentation and in this clip I talk about the first and most important mistake.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself to make sure you are clear on the purpose of your home page, landing page or website as a whole:

Where to host a book launch party?

book partyYesterday I was talking with a client of mine who is launching a book set in the 1970s. She found a store that is all about the ’70s and is now in discussions to host a book launch party there. This got me to thinking about all the various places that you could host a book launch shindig.

A bookstore

This is the obvious choice and one that many an author makes. Of course it makes sense … a book launch party is supposed to jump start book sales, so why not hold it in a place that people buy book...

Some thoughts on what web presence is

When you hear the term “online presence” what does it mean. Here’s a “formal” definition:

on•line pres•ence \än-līn pre-zən(t)s\ noun (also web presence): 1. the state or fact of being present on the Internet 2. the visibility or influence of a person or business as reflected by mentions of that person or business throughout the Internet

And here’s what I had to say about it in a recent presentation of “The 5 Deadly Mistakes of Home Page Design”:

As I said, every mention of you or your business...
