What was your inspiration for this story?
Chrystabel and Joseph are the parents in my books VIOLET, LILY, and ROSE. They’re a fun couple, and readers have been asking for their story forever—so my readers were the inspiration! As for what inspired the book’s main plot, it was already established that Chrystabel and Joseph met and married during the Commonwealth period, when no king sat on the throne. History tells us that Christmas was outlawed during this time…and Chrystabel has always been a bit of a rabble-rouser. In her three daughters’ books, she definitely embraces the Ashcroft family motto: Question Convention. So it seemed to me that she would want to celebrate Christmas whether it was legal or not. Instant plot!
How did you celebrate when you sold your first book?
With part of my advance (the first payment authors get when they sell a book), I treated myself to LASIK surgery, so I could stop wearing glasses—which I’d worn and hated since middle school!
If you could meet any historical romance author, who would it be?
Jane Austen! Now I just need a time-travel machine…

Justin and Mouette are my first "older" couple (ages 48 & 36) and they bring lots of baggage and hidden longings to their "make-believe marriage." I had a lot of fun watching Justin squirm as his vulnerabilities were slowly exposed.
How much research do you do?
I do a lot of research – and the best part is traveling to the locations in my books. I like to walk in the footsteps of my characters as much as possible.
