Woofisms: Woofs of Wisdom©
I hear it’s lonely. Woof! -Kensy, The Dog
Woofisms: Woofs of Wisdom©, because we all know the dog has the best advice.
Humans Make Dogs Yawn
It’s not exactly that we bore are dogs and make them yawn, although that does happen, it’s goes back to yawning being contagious. Turns out when we yawn it does start our dog yawning, it’s not just our imagination. It’s also not all animals who do this, only a few actually do. At least according to a study that was done in Portugal.
Besides people and dogs, contagious yawning has been observed in gelada baboons, stump-tail macaques, and chimpanzees. Humans tend to yawn more with friends and a...
Wally The Squirrel Is Nuts
So I’m perusing the internet over the weekend as most dogs my age will do. Hey, when you’re ancient and your bones ache all over, the last thing you want to do is take a walk with the rest of the clan over hilly terrain, especially at a national battlefield. I’ll be honest with you, the place with its cannons but more importantly ghosts scares me. There I said it, and if you think less of me so be it.
Anyway, back to what I discovered on the digital highway. It was a video of a Bernese Mountai...

Is Breed To Blame For Dog Aggression?

There is much controversy when it comes to the topic of dog aggression and specific breeds. Arin Greenwood from The Huffington Post did an article about a recent study done in Britain that takes a look at this subject. According to the article it has more to do with educating the owner of the dog and not a specific breed as being more aggressive.
Dog breed is not a good predictor of aggression. This is according to a recent study out of the University of Bristol’s School of...

What Can Poison Your Dog In The Winter?
It’s almost spring but we’re not there yet so here’s a few important reminders of winter poisoning hazards to watch out for. One thing that isn’t mentioned is making sure you do not leave your dog outside in the cold. We’ve had some extreme temperatures this year and it’s not safe for your pup to be out there, they get frostbite too.

Talking Dog Stuns Local Residents
Not sure if you guys have heard this story, but I have it from a good source that it is 100% true. I checked Snopes and didn’t see anyone denying this occurred. Here’s the incredible story…
Jim Thompson was driving around the back roads of Georgia near Dahlonega when he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: “Talking Dog For Sale”.
He stops and knocks on the front door until the owner appears. Sure enough there is a talking dog for sale, a beautiful looking Bernese Mountain D...
Puppy Mill Dogs Rescued In Arkansas
Having adopted three puppy mill breeder dogs this is a story that hits home. Anytime I read something about puppy mill dogs I try to spread the word because there are still many people out there who have no idea what happens to these dogs. They don’t know how these dogs are treated, the abuse they suffer, all they see are the cute puppies. More than 120 puppies and 60 other animals were rescued last week from a puppy mill.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant to Jeffer...
Winterize Your Dog
We live in the south now so snowy paws aren’t much of an issue anymore but when we lived in New York it was a big deal. Not only did Bo get the ice crystals stuck in his paws he also got the salt in there. You always knew when this happened on our walk because he would promptly stop wherever we were, like the middle of the road, and start licking his paw. It’s been a while since I had to deal with this so I went to Way Cool Dogs for some good tips on how to keep your dog’s paws safe.
Winterizi...
