Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings:" A Catholic World View on EWTN This Week
One of my favorite Tolkien biographers, Joseph Pearce, and my artist friend Jef Murray have collaborated on a new EWTN TV special entitled Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings:" A Catholic World View which will be broadcast this week. Tolkien fans, you don't want to miss this special on EWTN, which will air on Wednesday, April 6 at 10pm EST, Friday, April 8 at 1pm EST, and Saturday, April 9 at 5am EST.
More information is available here: http://www.ewtn.com/wings/2011/03312011Feature.htm
You can see samples of Jef's artwork on his website here: http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~jmurra2/jefmurraystudios/
Some of my favorite books on Tolkien by Joseph Pearce include Tolkien: Man and Myth http://www.ignatius.com/Products/TMAN-P/tolkien-man-and-myth.aspx and Tolkien: A Celebration. http://www.ignatius.com/Products/TAC-P/tolkien-a-celebration.aspx. Both of these volumes are excellent reading for the Christian Tolkien fan.
In other news, I will be at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA on the afternoon of April 12 at 3:30 p.m., to discuss topics from my book The Lord of the Hallows: Christian Symbolism and Themes in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter. These topics will include the similarities between the Christian worldviews of J. R. R. Tolkien and J. K. Rowling, as well as the similarities between The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I will also be doing a book signing at this event, which will be held in the Multimedia Teaching Room of the Ellender Memorial Library. If you are unable to attend the event but would like to purchase the book, please visit my publisher's site to obtain a copy: www.outskirtspress.com/thelordofthehallows.

Ron/Hermione Deleted Scene
"There was this scene in we shot up in Scotland; it's a scene where Ron is showing Hermione how to throw a stone on a lake, how to spin a stone on the lake, and Hermione is being really girly about it. She's got a really rubbish throw, and she has to insist that Ron show her how to spin the stone to sort of entice tactility and physical contact, and it's a really funny, tender and moving scene."–David Yates
Tumblr has just exploded with Ron/Hermione love due to this deleted scene. If you want to see more, please follow me at http://phoenixweasley.tumblr.com/ The following animations can be found there along with many others:
I didn't make these graphics, but I follow the talented people who make them. Aren't they pretty?

All of the Deleted Scenes from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One
Here's a YouTube video of all of the deleted scenes from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One which will soon be released on DVD. All of these scenes are really superb. The scene of Harry and Aunt Petunia's final words to each other was wonderfully acted. (I felt sorry for Petunia and wanted to slap her at the same time.) If they showed the Durleys' farewell in the theater, I would have cheered and applauded for Dudley when he shook hands with Harry and said "I don't think you're a waste of space." I loved the scene of Harry as Runcorn and Ron as Reg Cattermole in the elevator meeting Arthur Weasley, especially when Harry gives him the warning about the Ministry tracking him. The scene of Ron and Hermione by the lake is simply adorable, and you can sense the awkward romantic tension between the two of them. (There are screencaps of this scene in the blog post that I made yesterday.) I also thought that the scene of Harry, Ron, and Hermione discussing the locket inside the tent was great. The film really needed more background information about the Horcruxes, and this scenes explains quite a bit. I really wish all of these scenes could have been in the theatrical cut of the film. Brilliant work by David Yates and all of his cast members! WOW!
