pads and tampons oh my!

This blog is for the ladies!  Men no need to read further.  Unless of course I have now grabbed your attention and you are curious.  I found this article on EMagazine.com and what it had to say was quite disturbing!  "According to waste consultant Franklin Associates 6.5 billion tampons and 13.5 billion sanitary pads plus their packaging ended up in landfills or sewer systems in 1998. And according to the Center for Marine Conservation over 170000 tampon applicators were collected along...

http://www.thediscerningbrute.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/vintageLuggage.jpg

I came across this great article recently on The Discerning Brute about eco luggage.

So if you're on the hunt for some new baggage here are some great tips:

-Used or vintage luggage: Check out Ebay Craigslist thrift stores or yard sales.  This is usually the most affordable way to get luggage... And vintage luggage can be super cute!

-Heys USA Eco Case: this luggage is made from 100 recycled plastic is lightweight high quality and has a 7 year warranty.

-Eco Traveler 2 Piece Expandable...

starbucks is now making vegan frappucinos!

Good news for you flirts: there's now a way to order a kinder drink if you are one of the millions of people who go to Starbuck's regularly. They are now allowing customers to substitute soy milk for regular milk in their Frappucinos which previously wasn't an option.

Just to warn you the soymilk they use does have cane sugar in it but if you are the kind of person who likes to treat themselves to this drink once in awhile this is an easy way to make it a little kinder.

Trying this out is a...

emilys stomach problems cured!!

I found this success story on the site and its such a great one for any of you who suffer from stomach issues! Check out Emily Es great story:

I am now 22 years old and feeling great as a vegan. However I have not always been this way. When I was a little girl I was a skinny little thing and ate lots of junk food. Then I grew up and I still at junk food...but it wasn't so cute anymore. I never became overweight but I did have body image issues. Then came the physical problems. I always had an...

scott jurek the amazing vegan ultra-marathoner!

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2010/05/13/sports/13runner1/13runner1-articleLarge.jpg

Eric Bogosian one of my co-stars from Time Stands Still told me about this article in the New York Times about an amazing vegan ultramarathoner.  This guy Scott Jurek trains so much that he must consume anywhere from 5000 - 8000 calories a day.  He usually runs 15 miles in the morning before a lot of us are awake!

Scott hasn't always lived with such a healthy diet though.  Just like most of us he started out eating lots of junk food and nasty foods take a look at The Kind Diet for more...

the oil spill...

Like many of you I am beyond disturbed with this oil spill situation.

First the problem:  The oil spill. I'm sure you all know how bad this is for the planet the environment for people and for wildlife biodiversity.

Right now no one can predict the terrible long term effects this will have on the water and all the creatures who rely on it to live including humans. The amazing people who are working to clean up the spill are already having serious health problems as are animals like fish...

an update on the NASA squirrel monkeys...

Hi everyone!  Just a short while back I told you all about NASA's future plans to irradiate Squirrel Monkeys for experimental purposes.  In an attempt to understand the dangers facing astronauts during their potential missions to Mars NASA essentially wants to poison Squirrel Monkeys with radiation.

NASA is completely aware of the harmful and damaging affects from past irradiation experiments on primates yet they continue to push for more tests. These experiments are obviously cruel and...

vote for a strong climate and energy bill!!

http://www.earthskids.com/kids-can-environment.jpg

Hey Kind Lifers - there are some days June 10 June 15th and July 2nd coming up very soon in the US Senate that are extremely important.  Basically what's going to happen is that the Democratic Senate Leadership and the key Committee chairs will meet to discuss whether they will proceed with a climate and energy bill that will address the climate crisis... or they could go with a bill that fails to address such problems.  This is a huge deal and can affect our future and the future of...

raw rugs...

I just finished shooting a film with Olivia Wilde who also happens to be vegan and she just sent me a link to these floor rugs that are pretty cool.

This design studio in Atlanta takes all kinds of carpet scraps and pieces them together to make these amazing Raw Rugs.

The goal is to keep carpet out of landfills where it can sit for 50000 plus years. Good job Raw Rugs!

Check them out and let me know what you think.
