Work in Progress: Forged in Fire, week twenty four (better late than never)

Forged in Fire
Heir to the Firstborn, Book 2

85398 / 95000 (89.89%) The weekly update is a little late this week. Looks like the book might be, too. I’m SO CLOSE,  though. There’s a chance I might have it done in time for Indie Bookfest. A slim chance, but it’s a chance. I know what the high points are for the rest of this book, and it appears that the character who I hadn’t decided if he was making it to the end will actually survive this book. No, I’m not telling you who! The big th...

Work in Progress: Forged in Fire, week twenty three.

Forged in Fire
Heir to the Firstborn, Book 2

81805 / 95000 (86.11% Here we are, nearing the end of June, and I’m still not done. I think it safe to say that I’m probably not getting this book done for Indie Bookfest. Considering that my “If I have it done by X date, I can still have it finished” date is this Friday? It’ll be a miracle if I have copies on my table at the signing. Not impossible, mind you. Just increasingly unlikely. I don’t want to rush the story or the edits. So it migh...

Work in Progress: Forged in Fire, week twenty two

Forged in Fire
Heir to the Firstborn, Book 2

77177 / 95000 (81.24%) I’m getting back into the swing of things, and getting the flow of this world again after sort of ignoring it for a couple of weeks. Rereading showed that I’ve had my usual “make things up as you go and fix it in post” consistency issues. Needless to say, they’ve been fixed. Mostly. They will be fixed before we go to print. I’ve also jumped my total word target up — there’s no way that I’m finishing this monster in the...

Work in Progress: Forged in Fire

As I posted yesterday, Table of Stone is finished. It’s formatted and off to the beta readers.

Table of Stone
Swords of Charlemagne, Book 4

91159 / 85000 (107.25%) Now, this means I can get back to work on Forged in Fire, which has been sadly neglected while I finished Table of Stone. The race against time starts today. If I want to have this book finished and polished and actually out by Indie Bookfest, I need to get back to it and get it into high gear. Wish me luck!

Works in Progress: Table of Stone and Forged in Fire, week twenty…sort of

There was a week twenty, but there weren’t many words to be had. I spent last week getting ready for Oasis, and I spent the weekend at the convention, having a marvelous time! I got to meet and be on panels with the brilliantly funny Adam-Troy Castro, met his lovely wife Judi, and see a lot of people I don’t get to see nearly enough. Started off the weekend with co-hosting the fannish version of Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me. Saturday, I hosted a couple of panels — one on writing Ordinary People,...

Works in Progress: Table of Stone and Forged in Fire, week nineteen

I’m late. I know. We had a big day yesterday — we went out to Universal Studios for the day, and by the time we got home, all I wanted to do was shower and fall down. Tired Liz is TIRED.

And tired Liz is also confused, because I did all my usual Sunday stuff today, so of course today is Sunday, right?

No. It’s Monday. And the blog is late. Oops.

Had a decent writing week for Table of Stone, and learned something new about writing a series. If you’re going to write a series that takes place in...

Works in Progress: Table of Stone and Forged in Fire, week eighteen

Okay, I’m calling it.

Table of Stone will NOT be done by the deadline of by Friday. I’m giving myself another month. Which is going to be interesting, because you know what is done on Friday?

School.

Well, technically, school actually ends a week from tomorrow. But the school where J attends wanted to be done on Friday, and the board voted to end school on Friday because why have ONE half day after a day off? The County, however, said they had to have that silly last day. So the school said,...

Works in Progress: Table of Stone and Forged in Fire, week 17

Forged in Fire
Heir to the Firstborn, Book 2

69899 / 85000 (82.23%) Here we are. There are ten days left of school…. and Table of Stone is nowhere NEAR done. Looking at it, I’ve got maybe five and a half chapters left. And a denouement that I’ve already written, but that might need to be tweaked.  I think this might be the first time in a long time where I blow a deadline. Now, granted, it’s a personal deadline, bu...

Forged in Fire
Heir to the Firstborn, Book 2

65501 / 85000 (77.06%) Okay, I’m going to admit it. I’m hitting the EEK part of the writers journey. The one that sees the deadline looming on the horizon, and the book isn’t anywhere NEAR finished yet. I might have to focus solely on Table of Stone for a few weeks. Thankfully, I’ve got up to chapter 20 queued up for Forged in Fire. However, if I focus on Table of Ston...
