FWD: Mission!
Now this is a new one, at least to me:
Hi there,
How are you doing today? I am Williams Barnes, a US Marine currently serving in Iraq. I am actually one of the few Marines remaining in Iraq. We are waiting for executive order for our next deployment to Afghanistan this new year. I got your email from a business directory and I believe that you will maintain the level of confidence and trust that this mission I am about to inform you of require. Several months ago, my unit discovered some...

So I Could Not Have Been More Wrong…
Dan DiDio and Jim Lee Named Co-Publishers of DC Comics, Geoff Johns Chief Creative Officer
Now the waiting is finally over, and DC Comics has announced not one but two publishers: current Executive Editor Dan DiDio and Editorial Director and artist Jim Lee. But that's not all: Superstar writer Geoff Johns has been named Chief Creative Officer.
I said a few months ago that the creation of DC Entertainment was nothing but bad news for Dan DiDio. Turns out, not so much. True, he wasn't made sole p...

Happy Presidents Day

It's Nerd Wednesday.
Yes. I am a comics geek. Here's what I'm buying today:
Anchor #5: God's legbreaker. What more do you need to know?
Human Target #1 (of 6): I have to give DC credit for at least trying to tie into the Fox show. I can remember when the Batman movie tie-ins came out a month after the film opened.
Secret Six #18: Villains trying to be heroes, or at least get paid.
Unwritten #10: The continuing story of a man who might be a fictional character.
Marvel Boy The Uranian #2 (of 3): Jeff Parker reinvents...

Excellent News
Peter Bogdanovich will adapt Kurt Andersen's novel, Turn of the Century, for the big screen.
Sunny news on a rainy day. I'm a big fan of the book, which was both amazingly current — no surprise, really, given Andersen's history as one of the co-founders of Spy — and almost spooky in its prescience. I'm curious to see how Bogdanovich will be able to bring all its parallel and intersecting worlds together in one movie. It's going to be a difficult task welding all those various plotlines to...

Demon sheep, brain tasers and comics.
Carly Fiorina, who oversaw the unsuccessful merger of HP with Compaq before being forced out by her board of directors, is now running for Senate in California. And she has produced the weirdest political ad I've ever seen, featuring a demon sheep. (And remember, I grew up in Idaho, where the political discourse regularly includes discussion of black helicopters and secret UN armies.) If this is what we can expect from Fiorina, I really want her to stay in the race until the...

"Lost." Again.
A little late, but here are some of the thoughts still bouncing around in my head after the premiere of "Lost."

Eric Joyner, What We Ought Not, We Do

I'm sure I'm late to the party on this, as I am with all music, but I've been listening to the Dear Jack EP by Jack's Mannequin and Hombre Lobo by the Eels, and I've yet to hear a song I don't like. I can't remember the last time that happened.

Came home from a long weekend to find two episodes of "Archer" on the TiVo and felt a nearly physical joy. I was a big fan of Frisky Dingo, which was like a "South Park" to the "Venture Bros.'" "Simpsons," and...
