Antiheroines

Belinda Crawford, world-weaver, tale spinner and self-confessed geek, was kind enough to interview me on Mercy as part of her 'Antiheroines' series where we explore how the antiheroine functions as an alternative "way to be" and also a way to bring greater representations of diversity into the reading experience.

Voices from the Intersection

I'm part of an initiative to support the creation of Aussie Own Voices* stories through establishing publication and mentorship opportunities for emerging YA and children’s writers, illustrators and publishing professionals who are *Indigenous, *people of colour, *LGBTIQA or *living with disability.

(*Own Voices refers to diverse stories written or created by authors from the same diverse group).

Because we're doing it for the love, and it's run on an entirely voluntary basis by writers with the help of Aussie publishers and other industry professionals, we're going to try and hold at least two "events" a year.

To all emerging Aussie YA and children's authors and illustrators who meet the above criteria, please save the date: 5 March 2017.

As our inaugural event, we're holding a completely free-to-attend pitching/publisher speed dating session at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. Bring your talent, we need your Own Voice stories.

Publishers attending so far include: Text Publishing, Hachette Australia, Berbay Publishing, Walker Books, HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, Black Inc., Clan Destine Publishing, Midnight Sun Publishing, Hardie Grant, Bonnier Publishing and Allen & Unwin. Danielle Binks is attending as an agent for Jacinta Dimase management.

Please go to the Voices from the Intersection Facebook page for ground rules for the day. We're hoping to roll out further pitching sessions in other Australian States later.

And we would love it if you could "like" our FB page for more updates:

Wraith (Mercy 5) Publication Day

*COMP NOW CLOSED, thanks to all who entered, I am hugging you all, winners have been DM'd via Goodreads*

Quietly ecstatic to let readers of the Mercy series know that Wraith (Mercy 5) is available from today in paperback, ebook, Kobo, Kindle and all other marvellous newfangled reading methodologies. Wraith was written for, and is dedicated to, all the readers who have contacted me over the years with questions, comments and enthusiasm who have simply wanted to know "Well, what happens next?"

Ask your local library or bookshop to get a copy in for you if you feel you need to hold its chunky goodness in your hands. And I'm giving away two signed copies of Wraith on Goodreads this month: leave a comment below or DM me an answer to the following question: "What does Mercy or her story mean to me?" and I'll pick the two answers that tickle me the most by the end of May. The winners (wherever they are in the world) will get a signed copy of Wraith for their bookshelf.

I'd also be over the moon if people could tag me on Instagram via @rebeccalim_writer if they ever see a copy in the wild.

Aussie readers can order the book via Readings, James Bennett, Wheeler's Books, ALS, Booktopia, Book Depository and Amazon.

Happy reading. It's my usual peculiar, genre-busting blend of fantasy, action, mystery and wild magic - if you're up for that, I think you'll like it.

Giveaway closed - The Astrologer's Daughter: Win a signed copy of the new edition

The Astrologer's Daughter by Rebecca Lim
To celebrate the new print, ebook and Kindle editions of my crime/mystery/fantasy novel The Astrologer's Daughter, which is set in Melbourne's Chinatown but also at an intersection between our world and Mercy's world, I'm giving away a signed copy to the first two readers who can tell me which archangel from the Mercy series makes a cameo appearance in The Astrologer's Daughter? (hint: I've blogged about this before and their name starts with A)

I'll pick the first two readers who leave a comment with the correct name in it.

Competition closes 15 March 2019. I'll DM the winners for their postal details and happy reading!

Audiobooks: Whiffy Newton in the Case of the Dastardly Deeds, Whiffy Newton in the Riddle of the Two-Tone Trousers & The Astrologer's Daughter

Whiffy Newton in the Case of the Dastardly Deeds (Whiffy Newton, #1) by Rebecca Lim The Astrologer's Daughter by Rebecca Lim

The new audiobooks for Whiffy Newton in the Case of the Dastardly Deeds, Whiffy Newton in the Riddle of the Two-Tone Trousers and The Astrologer's Daughter (narrated by me!) are each now available from audiobook retailers like Audible, Storytel, Scribd, Kobo and AudioBookstore.

If you're planning a road trip with your 7 - 12 year old and they're into funny, crime/detective/mystery caper/heist novels in the vein of The Red Hand Gang, The Five Find Outers, Geronimo Stilton and Encyclopedia Brown, give the adventures of Whiffy, Paz and Doreen a whirl.

If you're looking for a crime/mystery/thriller novel with a touch of the paranormal/occult set in Melbourne, Australia and spoken in deadset Melbourne vernacular, The Astrologer's Daughter may be for you.

Audiobooks for Wraith and Afterlight will follow in the coming weeks, so watch this space. Happy listening!
