Life Lessons from the Ocean – Part 5: Adventure

If you missed the first four check them out here: Be Present…Adapt…Perseverance…Community. The ocean and surfing has been a great teacher in my life and I have found that God can use our normal lives to teach and encourage us. I encourage you to “listen to your life,” (as Frederick Buechner says) and pay attention to your rhythms and routines and places of joys and challenges to see what your life...

Know Yourself

As I shared in Is “Wonder Woman” the Goal?…I don’t do it all…plus I have boundaries and I have help…and I believe we all should! In a Rip Curl IG chat, I told my friend and former pro surfer, Rosy Hodge, that everyone has to find what works for them and make the most with what they’ve got. I can’t tell someone what to do or how to do it. Everyone needs to figure that out for themselves.

Story of Hope: Meet Unstoppable Renei

“I wanted to believe in myself again. I’ve spent so many years being groomed to be someone else. To act, dress, and speak a certain way. I wanted to know what it felt like to be free to be me and let nothing stop me from living my life. I wanted to be Unstoppable.” – Renei I love to bring your Stories of Hope from amazing women and men we’ve met through Beautifully Flawed Retreats.

Life Lessons from the Ocean – Part 1: Be Present

“Listen to your life…” – Frederick Buechner No matter your age or stage or location in life, there is one school we all attend daily, and that is the school of life. Outside of buildings, classrooms, podcasts, books…our daily lives have MUCH to teach us if we pay attention and embrace the lessons. The ocean is a significant part of my life, and is therefore a place that has taught me many things...

Mom life & my 5 Keys to Adaptation

There has been a lot of adapting in our household since little Micah came along. Hard to believe he is 5 months old now! Motherhood requires adapting all day long! A little bit about Mom life with one arm… Since this is our third son, the tricks and adaptations are getting better with each child. When babies are really young the workload and the joy are uniquely high…they have wobbly heads...

How Do We Stay Connected? How Can You?

If you embrace adaptation you are equipped to handle anything that comes your way because “the only constant in life is change”. Adaptation is needed to stay connected in marriage as well! (Even if you aren’t married, you can apply what I’m about to share to other important relationships in your life.) On a Live Q&A last fall Adam and I were asked how we stay connected as a couple with young...

God’s Voice is in His Word

This was a question I was asked in a great podcast with Dr. Barbara Lowe (jump to 15:42 to listen). It’s a good question to reflect on. I believe the best and most certain place to hear God’s voice is in his word the Bible. This is sure, true and very reliable. I always make sure my thoughts or emotions or other sayings line up with God’s word so as not to be led in the wrong direction. Ep. 88 –...
