Book Review: SpiderAmazing Spider-Man Vol. 2: Spider-Verse Prelude

My rating: 2 of 5 stars
The best thing about the Spider-verse prelude is a bit of story with Ms. Marvel at the start that has nothing to do with this event.
The rest of the book could have been replaced with a sentence with saying, "Someone's killing Spider-powered characters wants to kill them. A time displaced Superior Spider-man (Otto Octavius) begins recruiting Spider-men throughout the universe, with a special emphasis on Spider-men who are willing to kill." That's pretty much the plot. None of the characters are developed enough that you care when they die, they're just there. Some are from popular Marvel spin-offs, though, so you can watch characters who you loved in Universes like 1602 bite the dust. This book is bloody and at the same time dull as its just filling time to get to the end of the book, so we can get into Spider-verse and find out what will happen in the event.

Book Review: Amazing Spider-Man: Edge of Spider-Verse

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is an anthology book giving us five stories of alternate universe Spiders:
Spider-man Noir: Really does a great job evoking the era with a mystery.
Spider-Gwen: Good introduction to the character, a little rushed because of how much story it had to tell.
The Spider-man: A more techno version of Spider-man. Like the concepts. character is a bit of a jerk but not in a fun way.
I Walked With a Spider: Spider-man in an alternate universe as horror. Don't look the grimmer parts of this but can see how it could work.
SP//DR: A sort of reality where a girl has a symbiotic relationship with a huge robot. The concept had some good moments but needed some place to develop.
y, n
Overall, not a bad book, but other than the first story, none were really standouts.

Book Review: Amazing Spider-man: Spiderverse

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was fun. While the storyline itself was pretty dark, it had a lot of fun working in Spiderpeople from across the multiverse, and there were plenty of surprises including the Japanese TV Spider-man showing up.
If you're a fan of Spider-man despite all the dark and scary stuff, this is a book that'll bring a smile to your face. The one thing I really didn't like is that this book kept referring to the tie-ins and events from the tie-ins came into the min story in such a way that you felt like you missed something if you don't get the tie-in. Again, that's pretty annoying IMHO.
Still, what does cinch this as a pretty good book is that the Epilogue Issue did actually have some interesting and some good plot twists rather than being (as many epilogue issues are) bog standard exposition.
The movie was better, but this is not bad at all.
