Pauline Rowson discusses her new hero, Art Marvik, in a brand new crime series

Pauline Rowson explains the background to her action hero in the new marine crime novel, Silent Running.

Silent Running an Art Marvik marine crime novel by Pauline RowsonI like heroes and as I’m a sucker for adventure stories and mystery there was no doubt that this was what Silent Running had to be.  I wanted a character who was not bound by the official rules
of the law, but who was nevertheless on the right side of it.  Silent
Running
also had to have all the hallmarks of my brand – a troubled
hero, the sea, boats, interesting and diverse characters and lots of action. So already the stage was set, enter Art
Marvik.

Death Surge - now in paperback - view location photos and read extracts

Death Surge - DI Andy Horton number 10 - is now
published in paperback. It is also available as an e book and on Kindle. Here are some photographs of where Death Surge is set.

Death Surge - DI Andy Horton 10What
began as the hunt for a missing man becomes the search for a ruthless
killer...

A telephone call from a frantic Sergeant Cantelli to say that his
nephew, Johnnie Oslow, is missing cuts short Detective Inspector
Horton’s sailing trip to France. Summoned back to the Isle of Wight,
Horton learns that Johnnie has not shown up for racing during Cowes
Week, as previously arranged.

The DI Andy Horton series of marine mystery crime novels (currently 11)
are set in the Solent area of Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight and the
surrounding areas on the South Coast of England.

Fab audience at Dell Quay Sailing Club

Lovely audience at Dell Quay Sailing Club on Saturday 21 March where I
was invited to give a talk about my crime writing and crime novels.  It
was great to meet some die hard DI Andy Horton fans and to introduce my new hero, former marine commando, Art Marvik in Silent Running.

Pauline Rowson reading from Art Marvik crime novel, Silent Running, Dell Quay Sailing Club, March 2015 Silent Running, like the DI Andy Horton crime series of police procedurals, is set around the South Coast of England against
the atmospheric backdrop of the sea. The ancient Roman hamlet of Dell
Quay is mentioned in Silent Running, which also features Chichester
Harbour, Weymouth, Littlehampton, Brighton and Bognor Regis.

Silent Running is published in hardcover by Severn House in the UK on 31 March 2015 and in the USA on 1 July 2015

The story behind the story - Death Surge - DI Andy Horton 10, now in paperback

The inspiration for Death Surge came like all the other novels in the series featuring the flawed and rugged detective DI Andy Horton from
the location. It is locations that inspire me and with the Horton
series, set against the powerfully evocative British marine landscape of
the Solent on the South Coast of England, there is always a good place
to put a body.

Placing the crime novels against the backdrop of the sea has many
advantages. The sea is never constant. In one day it can change from
being calm to turbulent. It is also dangerous, misleading and evil like
many villains, and although it can look safe beneath can be a sandbank, a
rock, a wreck, a dangerous current all of which can cause havoc and
kill, and be used to good effect in a crime novel. It also provides a
great backdrop for pace and great settings for a climax, which, of
course, I’ve used in Death Surge.

Pauline Rowson entertains London audience at Hammersmith and Fulham

A trip to London is always interesting and enjoyable, in its own way,
i.e. to soak up the city atmosphere and great for picking up ideas for
characters. My recent visit to London was to meet members of the
Hammersmith and Fulham U3A where I had been invited to give a talk about
my crime novels.

Hammersmith and Fulham U3A Pauline Rowson explaining how she writes her DI Andy Horton crime novels - March 2015 Almost
a hundred people packed the church hall in Hammersmith on a bright
sunny March morning to listen to me talking about how I research, plot
and write my crime novels, those of my new hero, former marine commando, Art Marvik, in Silent Running, my stand alone thrillers, In Cold Daylight and In For The Kill and of my DI Andy Horton series set
in the Solent area on the South Coast of England, which has recently
been optioned for TV by one of the UK's top television production
companies, Lime Pictures, who are seeking to bring the flawed and
rugged, sailing  detective, Andy Horton to the TV screens.
