BAFTA, London, beckoned for DI Andy Horton
mystery crime series has been optioned by one of the UK’s
leading television production companies, Lime Pictures, who are
seeking to bring the enigmatic sailing detective to life on screen. The series
of currently eleven novels is set in the Solent area on the South Coast of
England.
InJanuary I met up with Rebecca Hodgson, Head of
Drama for Lime Pictures and Jo Combes, Drama Development Executive, at
the World famous BAFTA club in London for lunch to discuss Andy Horton
and the marine mystery crime series. It was great to meet them and
exciting to hear how much they loved Horton and the crime novels.
Rebecca Hodgson says, ‘DI Andy Horton is a returning detective who can
cut through the competition. His character is fascinatingly knotty, with his
difficult childhood, troubled marriage and chequered career, and a detective
who lives on a small boat and rides a motorbike is a fresh reboot of the TV
detectives that we already know. We are confident that the intriguing
partnership of Horton and Cantelli will attract a fantastic cast.'

Pauline Rowson guest lecturer to Criminology and Forensic Studies Students
students at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies, University
of
Portsmouth on Tuesday 17 February where I talked about crime
writing and how I research, plot and write my crime novels. I
hope that it provided an interesting insight for the students.
I took the students
through how I map out my crime novels using mind maps and plot lines.
I've been told by a former detective of the Hong Kong police that my
workings out are exactly how they used to map out the crimes they
investigated, so there you have it.

Pauline Rowson talking about the process of writing a crime novel to Stoke WI members
February and entertaining them with tales of my criminality - fiction
that is. I explained how I research plot and write my crime novels and took a
lively Q & A which was followed by a book signing. It was great to
give a talk to an audience so close to where I live for a change. And
lovely to begin the meeting singing Jerusalem and ending it singing the
National Anthem.
This year sees Stoke and North Hayling WI celebrating their 70th anniversary while the Women's Institute organisation celebrate their centenary. What an achievement!Read more by clicking on the above title or the link to the right.

Pauline Rowson on what makes a fiction writer
never committed a murder, or been a police officer, and neither am I married to
one. I’ve had no previous experience or knowledge of the law, except what I’ve
read in crime novels, and I’ve never been to an autopsy, yet after many trials
and tribulations I finally got the job as a crime writer. It’s my belief then that you should write
what you are enthusiastic about, but you also need some additional qualities.
Persistence and patience are
essential in order to be able to ferret out the information you require. This can
be desk research via the Internet, the library and/or by speaking to individuals.

What's on in February 2015
But never fear Andy Horton fans because I am not deserting my rugged and
flawed detective. I've already written the first draft of DI Andy
Horton 13 so it will be back to that as soon as I have finished Art
Marvik 2. Meanwhile the twelfth in the DI Andy Horton series, Fatal Catch is to be published in autumn 2015.
I
will be entertaining two very different audiences in February with tales of
murder, mystery and mayhem and telling them how I write, research and
plot my crime novels.

The recipe for a perfect crime series- a rugged hero and an ever changing sea
A flawed and rugged hero cop, a strong cast of diverse characters, set
them against the ever changing sea of the Solent on the South Coast of England, mix with mystery and toss in a dead
body or two and you have the the perfect recipe for an entertaining
crime series - the DI Andy Horton marine mystery crime novels.
Women readers often tell me they are in love with DI Andy Horton (join
the queue) and men like him because he's an action guy - he's fit,
fearless and forty. Rugged and flawed Andy Horton is a maverick cop who
is tough on villains and prepared to take risks in his search for
justice. He's
been raised in children's homes after his mother abandoned him as a
child. He has a desperate need to belong and yet is always on the
outside. Being alone is his greatest fear, yet he is alone.
The
novels are set against the atmospheric backdrop of the sea in the
Solent area on the South Coast of England. Estranged from his wife, who
does her best to prevent him from seeing his eight year old daughter,
Emma, Andy Horton lives alone on his yacht in Southsea Marina and rides a
Harley Davidson.
