The story behind DI Andy Horton Lethal Waves

Pauline Rowson on board Condor Ferry for Lethal Waves, DI Andy Horton novel The inspiration for Lethal Waves, Horton's thirteenth outing, (now published in paperback) came from seeing one of the regular ferry services sail from Portsmouth into the Solent and out around the Isle of Wight on its way to the Channel Islands, the Condor Commodore Clipper Ferry.

I started with the idea of a body on that ferry, that of a woman who is found dead in her locked cabin when the ferry docks at Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Of course I asked Condor for their permission to allow me to have a fictitious body on their ferry and was delighted when they agreed and even more so when they offered to give me free reign of the boat and the opportunity to question their staff in aid of my research.

January is the setting for Inspector Andy Horton's latest murder mystery

Throughout February I'll be looking behind the scenes at LETHAL WAVES. But here is the background on LETHAL WAVES, published by Severn House.

Fascinating Forensic Facts - a suspect's hand

Fatal Catch an Inspector Andy Horton crime novelWhat if the only evidence available in a murder investigation is a grainy image of a suspect’s hand? Can the police crack the case? Perhaps Inspector Andy Horton can? In FATAL CATCH, fishermen haul a gruesome catch, not a suspect's hand but a victim's!

And maybe and thanks to a group at the University of Dundee in the UK, Inspector Horton will be able to catch more criminals by the hand. The Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) can assess vein patterns, scars, nail beds, skin pigmentation and knuckle creases from images of hands to show, with high reliability, that police got the right person in several very serious court cases in the UK.
