The story behind Art Marvik mystery thriller, Lost Voyage

How do you find a ghost ship once the trail has gone cold? And how do you locate it if it has been lost in the frozen seas of the Arctic? These were two questions that sparked the idea for the third in the Art Marvik mystery series, Lost Voyage. It also fitted neatly with the fact that Marvik’s late father, Dan Coulter, was a renowned oceanographer with a special interest in the Arctic and it had been the Arctic where he had met Marvik’s mother, Eerika, a marine archaeologist while working on a joint expedition with Norway in 1989.



I decided to conduct further research, desk bound I hasten to add rather than physically embarking on an expedition to the Arctic. I’ll leave the tough stuff to my fictional characters.

Pauline Rowson on why the crime genre is so popular

Crime fiction is one of the best selling genres and the most borrowed from public libraries. So what is it that makes crime fiction so popular? Well apart from being a cracking good read, in crime fiction we know that generally speaking justice will be done and the case will be resolved and that doesn’t always happen in real life. In crime fiction the villain either gets caught or gets his/her come uppance but in real life the evil and manipulative, the guilty can get away with it. Crime fiction can give us a resolution. It can also give us an insight into what makes people tick.

What's on in April 2019

Talks, revisions, features and news of the latest crime novels to be published in April.





I'll be giving a talk at Andover Library, Hampshire on 25 April 2019 about the inspiration behind my crime novels and how I research, plot and write them. I'll be working on DI Andy Horton number 15 in the series, featuring A KILLING COAST, DI Andy Horton number 7 on my website and the Art Marvik mystery thriller, LOST VOYAGE, both of which are set in the month of April.



In addition, I'll be progressing the publication of the first in a brand new historical crime series set in 1950 featuring a Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Alun Ryga, who is sent to the Island of Portland to investigate the body of a man wearing a pinstriped suit found on a deserted cove.





I'm very excited to announce the publication date of 26 September 2019 when DEATH IN THE COVE will be published in paperback, as an e book, on Amazon Kindle and Kobo and also I'm delighted to say also as an unabridged audio book.

Andy Horton's back story and his quest to discover the truth behind his mother's disappearance

When
I created Inspector Andy Horton in TIDE OF DEATH I had little idea that
he would go on to solve so many murder mysteries. To date there are
fourteen in the series with DEAD PASSAGE the latest investigation for
the flawed and rugged Portsmouth based detective.



In Tide of Death, I knew that Andy Horton had no knowledge of his father
and, until the age of ten, had been raised by his mother first in
London and then in a council flat in a tower block in inner city
Portsmouth until one day she failed to return home from working at the
casino.
