Will DI Andy Horton finally learn the truth behind his mother's disappearance?

I'm currently working on DI Andy Horton number 15 in which Andy has a new investigation to undertake and yes it is one that leads him to discovering the truth behind his mother's disappearance over thirty years go. My patient (and not so patient readers) will finally get to find out what happened to Jennifer Horton and might possibly be surprised. This might also be the last DI Andy Horton. Although then again...

Meanwhile if you haven't tried the DI Andy Horton crime novels then there are plenty to catch up on. DEAD PASSAGE, (number 14) was published in October 2018.

Applying the Page 69 test to DI Andy Horton mystery, Shroud of Evil

Shroud of Evil - DI Andy Horton 11The first I heard of the page 69 test was when a member of the public approached me in a bookshop where I was doing a book signing and said she always applied it when deciding which crime novel to purchase. She didn’t buy one of my novels so I’d obviously failed to reach her exacting standards, whatever they were. I thrust it from my mind, only to be reminded of it recently when asked to contribute to a blog. So I browsed the Internet to find out who was responsible for this particular form of literary torture. The answer was the writer Marshall McLuhan championed more recently by John Sutherland in How to Read a Novel: A User’s Guide. Do we really need instructions on how to read a novel?

I turned to Page 69 in Inspector Andy Horton Shroud of Evil and duly applied the test.

Falling in love with Inspector Andy Horton

Pauline Rowson with DI Andy Horton novel A Killing Coast I
have been  asked if I am just a tiny bit in love with the main
character in my series of crime novels featuring the modern day flawed
and rugged detective, DI Andy Horton.  The answer  is yes and not just a
tiny bit but a lot. Inspector Andy Horton is fit, about forty and
fearless. And to me he is gorgeous despite or maybe because of his
flaws.

I thought it might sound odd saying that I was  in love with Andy Horton
but having read a recent survey that said a high percentage of women
are more in love with fictional characters than their partners I feel a
lot better about it.  Apparently James Bond tops the list of  the
character most women love and he too is fit and fearless and I suppose
if you think of the films rather than the books, where you can let your
imagination create your own version of Bond, it depends which Bond you
have fallen in love with. I know who my hero is but I'm not telling.

Pauline Rowson on writing routines, research and thinking time

Pauline Rowson at the keyboard I'm
often asked if I have a writing routine and the answer is not strictly
although I do like to write every day if I possibly can, speaking
engagements permitting. But "writing" isn't just pounding away on a
keyboard. Creating a crime novel requires more. There is, of course, the
research which can be desk research conducted via the internet, books
and newspapers, and secondary research, which involves talking to the
experts and visiting locations. There is also thinking time.
