What's on in December 2018

The Suffocating Sea, Fatal Catch, In Cold Daylight December, the run up to Christmas and often the winding down of work. And while, for me, December is a quiet month in terms of talks it is still a busy month for writing. In fact the holiday period is a good time for me to write and usually highly productive.

In forthcoming blogs I'll be featuring the story behind each of the December set crime novels, some videos and extracts of two Inspector Andy Horton crime novels THE SUFFOCATING SEA and FATAL CATCH and my crime thriller novel IN COLD DAYLIGHT.

Fascinating Forensic Facts – Blood Stains

Pauline Rowson with DI Andy Horton novel Dead Passager There
are many fascinating forensic subjects for a crime writer to research.
For my crime novels I’ve researched gunshot wounds, death by crossbow,
poisons, blunt force trauma, suffocation, fire and more. I am very grateful to
all the forensic scientists, Hampshire police officers and the
Hampshire Fingerprint Bureau and crime scene investigators who have
helped me.

Here is some information on blood pattern analysis I've gleaned for
both my Detective Inspector Andy Horton crime novels set in Portsmouth
and the Isle of Wight and for my Art Marvik mystery thriller series set
along the South Coast of England.

The seven emotional stages of writing a novel

Pauline Rowson with DI Andy Horton Footsteps on the Shore Many, if not all fiction writers, ride the emotional roller coaster of emotions when crafting their novel. For me, each stage of writing a novel brings with it a range of different emotions. These range from excitement to frustration, relief, doubt, fear, anxiety plus a whole lot in between.

So here then is the gauntlet of emotions I run while writing one of my crime novels.

Pauline Rowson and DI Andy Horton crime novel Dead Passage Being a crime writer involves researching some very gruesome things but also some very interesting forensic aspects of crime.

For my crime novels I’ve research gunshot wounds, death by
crossbow, poisons (a favourite of Agatha Christie’s), blunt force
trauma, suffocation, fire and more. I am incredibly grateful to all the
forensic scientists, Hampshire police officers and the Hampshire
Fingerprint Bureau and crime scene investigators who have assisted me.

I thought I would share some information on blood pattern analysis I
gleaned for both my Detective Inspector Andy Horton crime novels set in
Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight (14) and for my Art Marvik mystery
thriller series (3) set along the South Coast of England.

Dead Passage, DI Andy Horton crime novel by Pauline Rowsonn DEAD
PASSAGE is number fourteen in the DI Andy Horton series of crime novels
and like the others in this marine-set series it is set on Horton’s CID

As many of my readers know it is locations that often inspire me
and in a previous blog I have featured one of the locations in DEAD

tickled the little grey cells and is the focus of DI Andy Horton's
investigation into the mysterious death of a local politician twelve
years ago.

The chance to play sleuth in 1940 England, Murder at the Pelican Club

Murder at the Pelican Club play by Pauline RowsonFancy being transported back to 1940 and solving a dastardly crime in the vein of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple or Poirot?  Well now's your chance. My 1940 set murder mystery play, MURDER AT THE PELICAN CLUB is to be performed by the Winterbourne Players, Bristol, England from 22 to 24 November 2018.

Murder At The Pelican Club is a 1940s murder mystery in the vein of the classic crime thrillers of the 20th century, an Agatha Christie style detective drama that has audiences guessing ‘who done it.’ Written in a serious vein but with a touch of humour, the play takes place in the Pelican Nightclub and Restaurant in November 1940.
