Tickets now on sale for CSI Portsmouth 2012, where crime fiction meets crime fact
Tickets are now on sale for CSI Portsmouth 2012 taking place on Saturday 3 November at John Pounds Centre, Portsmouth England, the third year of this popular event where crime fiction meets crime fact.
At this year’s CSI Portsmouth international crime authors Stephen Booth, Ann Cleeves, Matt Hilton and Pauline Rowson join Crime Scene Manager Co-ordinator Carolyn Lovell from Hampshire Police, DC Terry Fitzjohn Crime Scene Fire Investigations Officer, Hampshire Police, Andy Earl Hampshire Fire and Rescue Arson Task Force, Adrian Fretter Hampshire Police Hi Tech Crime Unit, Professor Bran Nicol, University of Surrey, an expert on stalking culture including Internet Stalking and Dr Mark Button, University of Portsmouth, Director of the Centre for Counter Fraud Studies to debate crime fiction versus crime fact in two lively panel debates.

Crime Scene Fire Investigations feature in crime novels and at CSI Portsmouth
The Hampshire Police Fire Investigations Officer DC Terry Fitzjohn and Watch Manager Andy Earl of the Arson Task Force will be appearing at CSI Portsmouth 2012 on the morning panel along with Crime Scene Manager Carolyn Lovell from Hampshire Police and crime authors, Matt Hilton and Stephen Booth and myself.
One of my early thrillers, In Cold Daylight, is dedicated to fire fighters and in particular Red Watch at Southsea Fire Station, Portsmouth (England), my husband's former watch. The inspiration for In Cold Daylight came from a conversation I overheard while at the fire station one day when the watch were talking about the high number of their colleagues on one watch who had contracted cancer and some had sadly died. This gave me the idea of a story about a cover up over their deaths.
In Cold Daylight was voted third in an online poll as the most popular novel for World Book Day 2008.
An award winning thriller about one man's quest to discover the truth behind the deaths of fire fighters.

Fantastic time at CSI Portsmouth, great audience, experts and crime authors
Here is the report (below) from the CSI Portsmouth event held on Saturday 3 November. It was very enjoyable and thanks to everyone for making it so successful. Already looking forward to CSI Portsmouth 2013.
Crime authors Stephen Booth, Ann Cleeves, Matt Hilton and Pauline Rowson, and crime experts from Hampshire Police, the University of Portsmouth and the University of Surrey kept a packed audience enthralled at CSI Portsmouth on Saturday 3 November when they were grilled by Cheryl Buggy, Station Director of Express FM radio, in two lively panel debates of crime fiction versus crime fact.
Over a hundred and sixty people attended the one day event held at the John Pounds Centre, Portsmouth to hear what police and crime experts had to say about their work and to listen to the crime authors talking about their novels.
The audience also had the chance to put their questions to the panel and to talk to the team from the fingerprint bureau and students from the Forensic Science course from South Downs College who provided a crime scene.
CSI Portsmouth 2012 is in its third year, the brainchild of Pauline Rowson who organises it with Portsmouth City Council Library Service and the Hayling Island Bookshop. Part of Portsmouth BookFest it is fast becoming a major fixture in the crime fiction festival calendar.
Joining authors Ann Cleeves, Stephen Booth, Matt Hilton and Pauline Rowson were Carolyn Lovell, Crime Scene Manager/Coordinator for Hampshire Police, DC Terry Fitzjohn, Fire Investigation Officer for Hampshire Police, Watch Manager Andy Earl from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services, Adrian Fretter, from the Hi-Tech Crime Unit of Hampshire Police, fraud expert Dr Mark Button from the University of Portsmouth, Institute of Criminal Justice Studies and Professor Bran Nicol an expert on crime culture and stalking.
Both panel sessions ended with a book signing by the authors and there was the chance for the audience to talk individually to the authors and experts.
CSI Portsmouth 2013 will take place on Staurday 2 November. More details to follow.

CSI Basingstoke a real hit with the audience
CSI Basingstoke, where crime fiction met crime fact, held on Saturday 6 July at the Basingstoke Discovery Centre in Hampshire, England, was a big hit with the audience. The sell out event was attended by fifty crime fiction and CSI fans.
The event was modelled on the highly successful CSI Portsmouth, which I first organised in 2010. This year will be the fourth year of CSI Portsmouth, a one day event bringing crime authors and experts together for lively panel discussions on Saturday 2 November at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
CSI Basingstoke followed the same format as that of CSI Portsmouth except that it was smaller capacity audience and the Basingstoke event was a morning only panel. On the panel on the crime fiction side along with myself was Peter Lovesey who has won many major awards for his crime novels. His latest in the Detective Peter Diamond series is 'The Tooth Tattoo'.
We were joined on the expert side by Carolyn Lovell, Senior Manager, Hampshire Police Crime Scene Investigations and Jane Aston, Fingerprint Supervisor/Acting Bureau Trainer at Hampshire Police who both gave the audience a fascinating insight into their work. The panel was expertly chaired by Angela Hicken of Hampshire Library Service and the event was hosted by Basingstoke Discovery Centre.
The Hayling Island Bookshop provided a mobile book shop. Jane Aston was joined by her colleague, Heather Foster, and offered to take the delegates fingerprint and to press it into a keep sake key ring to take away - a very popular attraction.
My thanks to everyone for making the event so successful and enjoyable and to the audience for joining us.
