What's on in April- the new DI Andy Horton published

April sees the publication of the eleventh in the DI Andy Horton police procedural crime series, Shroud of Evil.

In Shroud of Evil DI Andy Horton is assigned the case of a missing person: Jasper Kenton, a private investigator. When Kenton’s car turns up, and a shocking discovery is made, things turn serious and Horton finds himself embroiled in an investigation that has major personal ramifications, and one in which he has no choice but to withhold vital information, even if it means the end of his career.

Published in hardcover and available from all good bookshops, on line and for loan in libraries.

It will be published in the USA in hardcover in August 2014 when it will also be released as an e book and available on Kindle, Nook and Kobo.

On 15 July I was on the Julian Clegg Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Solent. Those of you who aren't early risers can catch it again on BBC i player My interview is at the beginning of the show which starts at 6.30 a.m.

I thoroughly enjoyed talking to the lovely Julian Clegg as always and seeing the studio gang. Thanks to all of them and especially to Sam Fraser, producer and presenter on the early morning show from 5 a.m to 6.30a.m, who then assists on the Julian Clegg show until 10 am. I don't know how she does those early morning starts and on air and so cheerful, just as Julian always is.

As one of 'Julian's People' (those whose lives his programme follows), I get to chat to him and his thousands of listeners every three months.

Pauline Rowson talks to Katie Martin, BBC Radio Solent about crime novels and CSI Portsmouth

I was interviewed on the Katie Martin Show, BBC Radio Solent on 11 August along with DI Mandy Horsburg, Hampshire Police, about crime writing, crime fiction and how it differs from crime fact. It was also a great opportunity to talk about CSI Portsmouth, a one day event that brings crime fiction and fact together in two panel debates. CSI Portsmouth is being held on Saturday 8 November.

CSI Portsmouth, sponsored by Bello, publisher Pan Macmillan’s digital imprint, which brings lost classics back to life, is now in its fifth year. CSI Portsmouth came from an idea I had following many questions I receive from audiences at my talks about how I research my crime novels. CSI Portsmouth discusses, through two panel debates, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, crime fiction and fact. It is being held at The Princess Royal Gallery at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

DI Mandy Horsburgh who is one of our panel guests at CSI Portsmouth is an Inspector at Operation Fortress, one of the biggest, most significant stand-alone projects ever to be launched by the Constabulary, with its own 31-strong dedicated investigation and enforcement team made up of officers and staff drawn from across the force. The team investigate the most serious violent drug-related crimes alongside organized criminal groups who pose the most risk to communities.

You can listen to the interview on BBC i player with Katie Martin

With me on the stellar line-up for CSI Portsmouth 2014, part of Portsmouth BookFest, are internationally acclaimed best-selling crime authors, M.C. Beaton, Jessie Keane and Val McDermid as we join crime experts and officers from Hampshire Police and the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies, Portsmouth University.

Tickets for CSI Portsmouth go on sale on 29 September.

What's on in October

There's a lot happening in October. This month sees the publication of A Killing Coast (DI Andy Horton 7) in Large Print on 30 October and Undercurrent (DI Andy Horton 9) in paperback. Undercurrent is available now in paperback. There are currently eleven in the DI Andy Horton police procedural crime series.

In Undercurrent, naval historian Dr Douglas Spalding is found dead in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard. It looks like suicide but Horton goes out on a limb to prove otherwise. Soon he's embroiled in a cover up at the highest level. Booklist gave it a great review: "As usual, Rowson offers up a thorny, multifaceted plot; a profusion of unusual twists; a likable yet complex hero; and plenty of fast-paced, knuckle-biting action."

A Killing Coast, published in Large Print on 30 October sees DI Andy Horton involved in an investigation into a body found floating in the sea off Portsmouth harbour. It throws his capabilities as a detective into question. Not only does he need to find a brutal killer, but he also has to prove he's still up to the job. A Killing Coast is also available in paperback, as an ebook and an audio book.

Mysteries in Paradise (Australia) said of A Killing Coast, "If you like police procedurals with a twist, plenty of red herrings, and a strong sense of location, you'll like these."

All the Horton novels are also available for loan in libraries in the UK, USA and Commonwealth.

And I'm delighted to announce that my murder mystery play, Murder at the Pelican Club, is being premiered in Kent at the end of October. Act One Drama Group Presents - Murder at the Pelican Club on 30/31 October and 1 November

Be transported back to November 1940 and the Pelican nightclub and restaurant in Liverpool during the Blitz. Enjoy the live music while the murder takes place and see how the well drawn characters deal with the twists and turns of the plot. The village hall becomes the nightclub and snacks will be on sale to accompany the drink you can bring with you. If you really want to get involved come in 1940s dress! Miss it if you dare!

There are several talks on the agenda in October and if you're a fan of CSI then tickets for the very popular CSI Portsmouth event on Saturday 8 November, where crime fiction meets crime fact, are on sale now, but buy them soon if you're keen to come along, because tickets are selling fast!

In between all this activity I'll be knuckling down to writing DI Andy Horton number thirteen. The first draft is almost completed but there are several revisions yet to be done.
