Friday Four
1. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours in the beautiful sunny weather picking organic raspberries. This probably should have gone under Thankful Thursday. Raspberries are among my top ten reasons for wishing that summer would never end.
2. What am I reading? PRADA AND PREJUDICE by Mandy Hubbard. Really fun voice on this one. Go pick up your copy if you haven't already. And Mandy's doing a big booksigning in New York next week for anyone who's local to the area.

Authors With Abs: Damage Control
The exciting news from this weekend is that my awesome husband threw me a surprise birthday party! I'm not easy to surprise as I'm a big-time planner, but I think it helped that the party came 10 days before my actual birthday.
So one of the fun things about a party is the food. I think you all know where I'm going with this. Yes, I ate a lot. Lots and lots of yummy, high calorie foods, and not only that, but on Sunday when the party was over, I guess I felt some extra liscence or habit or whatev

Friday Four
1. Hm, is it Friday already? This is a good sign, of course. Probably because I've been CONSUMED in an outline for a new work in progress. I'm in love with my characters, feeling the plot, secure in the fact that my writing will always go this well. Uh-oh.
2. On the other hand, it feels like a Saturday. Which is also a good sign I think, since Saturdays seem to be catch up days. And if I could actually catch up BEFORE Saturday, how cool would that be? I'd have nothing to do tomorrow but write and

Authors With Abs: Why Cardio Really Sux
We all could use a little extra motivation to get off our duffs and get a little more active. But would there be anything worse than working yourself up for a workout, forcing yourself to do it, and not receiving ANY rewards from the process? Okay, there is one thing worse than that: actually getting WORSE from the process!
Have you even noticed at the gym that the people who spend an hour a day or even more huddled up on a cardio machine look the same as they did last month? Have you noticed tha

Friday Four - Mini Edition
1. Happy Independence Day to all my American friends!
2. Hope all my Canuck friends had a great Canada Day!
3. Here's the joys of living in a border town: I get to take part in celebrations for both countries!
4. I'm working on the next Authors With Abs installment. It will be on the harms, yes, THE HARMS, of cardio. So check back!
And I'd love to hear in the comments what you're doing to celebrate the 4th!

Reflections From Camping
I went camping this past weekend and had a wonderful time. I made a few less important observations.
1. Nature is a good detox from everyday life.
2. There's little more inspiring than a clear night sky away from the city.
3. Immerse yourself in enough campfire smoke, and showering isn't all that necessary (just kidding!).
As I walked along the ocean shore letting my mind wander, one thing I considered was what my perfect writing life would look like. To be honest, I don't think I'd want six or eigh

Authors With Abs: Rest
Over at my Live Journal blog, I'm running a contest and giving away a signed copy of Ally Carter's latest book in celebration of Shooting Stars Mag's YA BOOK CARNIVAL week!
Okay, onto the Authors With Abs installment...There are 3 key ingredients to getting in better shape. We've talked about two of them: diet and exercise. Today I'm going to talk about the third, rest, which is really appropriate since I desperately need to take my own advice here.
Over the weekend I overcommitted myself - again.

Friday Four
Four things I'm excited about this weekend:
1. Mandy Hubbard's book launch party. Today. SO excited. (congrats, Mandy!)
2. Okay, most people wouldn't be excited about a six hour drive to a book launch (3 hours each way), but you must remember my love for audio books. I have six words for you: Six Hours Alone With Edward Cullen.
3. Our Polynesian dance troupe's end of the year "Finale" is this weekend. Tickets were sold out over a month ago, so even if you are in the area, unfortunately you won't be

Ally Carter and Author Q & A's
As I've mentioned, I was blessed to be able to meet fabulous YA author Ally Carter Thursday night in Vancouver. Unfortunately most of my pictures didn't not turn out stellar (ie. so dark you can barely tell Ally from the church pews) but I did get one nice one of me with Ally. (I'm the star-struck one on the right.)
Before this moment of glory, Ally did a short talk on her writing and path to publication. It was great fun to listen to. Ally's an excellent speaker, and when chatting with her after
