September: A New Year, A New Measure of Balance (I hope!)

Many people think of January as the New Year, but for those who are in school, have kids in school, or are homeschooling like me, September seems to carry a more dramatic sense of newness. At least for me it does.

As I've been planning my homeschool year (or rather first month – I'm not THAT organized), my first instinct was to look for all the ways I could be more efficient with my time. It can be difficult when you have demands from work, family, writing etc. to keep up with all of them.

But ...

Friday Four

1. Thank you to all who helped with info on their high school schedules! I'm still compiling all the info and will put up a post (hopefully next week) about some interesting tidbits learned.

2. What I'm working on: I just finished my first revisions on LOSING FAITH and sent them back to my editor this week. I recently received some awesome notes from my agent on BELLY UP, so I'm back to work on that one and very excited about the next draft. I'm also working on my outline for Nanowrimo this ye...

Help! High School Schedules

I'm looking for a broad view of what's out there (or what has been out there) for high school schedules. If you could answer a few short questions with your own experiences, I would be eternally grateful!

I'll answer these with my own answers first so you get an idea of what I'm looking for.

First a couple of background questions...

1. Will you be in high school sometime this year? No
2. Have you been out of high school for more than 10 years? Yes (I still would love your answers either way)
3. Which

The Five Stages of Author Envy

A few days ago I blogged a little about Wintergirls and how the theme of the book affected me. Now I'd like to talk a little about what affect the writing had on me.

We all know about the different stages of anger and grief and joy, but today I want to talk about a topic rarely discussed: The Five Stages of Author Envy. This can really only be documented with an amazing literary work such as Laurie Halse Anderson's Wintergirls.

Stage One – I wanted to stare at each sentence, one by one, feel it's

Authors With Abs Meets Wintergirls

I spent the weekend completely immersed in the masterful prose of Laurie Halse Anderson's Wintergirls. For those who haven't come across this heart-wrenching story, it's a frighteningly realistic portrayal about one girl's struggle with anorexia.

I'm not going to do a traditional review of the book, as there are so many great reviews already out there. But I am going to talk a little bit about how this book impacted me personally. Today I'll talk about how it affected me theme-wise, and next blog
