Unlocking Hearts with Al Val: Red Flags, Radical Dates, and the Comedy of Love on Dating Unlocked

Embark on a captivating journey with Val as Dating Unlocked delves into her dating world, exploring red flags, wild date ideas, and the unfiltered pursuit of authentic connections.

What are three red flags on a date?

a) If my date spends any amount of time talking crap about their ex, I get that some relationships have messy breakups, but like it or not, when things were going well, your partner was a reflection of yourself and an important part of your life. What does that say about you if you're so quick to spite a relationship you willingly agreed to, every day, for an extended period of time? Bonus red flags if you call your ex "crazy", because that's such a lazy way to explain someone's behavior and a sign of a lack of accountability.

b) If my date struggles to look me in the eyes.

c) If my date shows any signs whatsoever of insecurity about the fact that they're in public with a trans woman. I need someone on my level: confident enough that they couldn't care less what other people think.

A woman with long brown hair stands akimbo, illuminated in red with a purple backdrop

What motivated you to join Dating Unlocked, and what are you hoping to gain from this experience?

I'm trying to be proactive in every way to find a partner and cultivate a relationship built on a foundation of honesty and transparency because I've never experienced that before in my life, and I want to open myself to every possible opportunity I can to realize that possibility. I've spent my whole life closeted and ashamed, and I'm determined to finally experience a relationship without shame, so I'm pulling out all the stops and making an honest effort with any opportunity to meet interesting and fun people. Also, I like to be on TV. Hah.

How would you describe your dating style and approach to forming connections with others?

As a comedian, I tend to keep things super light, playful, and fun, but I don't waste time in at some point subtly making my fundamental principles and intentions clear. We can have a fun time and laugh lots but I need my date to know exactly where I stand, which is why somewhere in the date I will gently open up with something deeply personal to establish an emotional intimacy and transparency that hopefully mutually lasts :)

In what ways has participating in Dating Unlocked changed or influenced your perspective on love and relationships?

I'm going to be completely honest here: it has been a harsh reminder not to be so naive and not to so blindly take people at their word.

If you were to create a perfect date that doesn't involve a traditional dinner or a movie, what would it look like?

Screw movies as a date idea! Movies are for later. If it's early in the dating phase between myself and a partner, I want to TALK! I want to find out who this person is, but I want to be able to do it in a playful atmosphere. I tend to like a little healthy competition because banter and trash talk can be flirty and fun, so something wild like axe-throwing, bowling, billiards, or an arcade is, in my opinion, an excellent icebreaker. I also mean this when I say that I would totally skydive or swim with sharks with someone on a first date. If someone asked, I wouldn't hesitate to say 'yes'. Let's bond over something TRULY WILD!

In the Skies of Love with Enna: Dating Unlocked's Playful Journey Beyond the Swipe

Dive into the complexities of modern dating with our guest as she shares profound insights on the impact of dating apps, the allure of unique first date superpowers, and the art of crafting dates that transcend the ordinary.

On Dating Apps:

Q: Have dating apps made forming connections easier or worse?

A: In some ways, it's a double-edged sword. The accelerated pace makes connections quicker, but the challenge lies in discerning the quality amidst the quantity. The abundance of options can create an imbalance, making it tricky to distinguish between quantity and true depth.

A woman leans on a shopping cart with a tv monitor in it, while looking into camera with her hand on her forehead and her elbow on the cart

Dreaming of Flight:

Q: If you could choose one superpower to have on a first date, what would it be, and how would you use it?

A: The ability to fly anywhere. Imagine soaring through the skies, exploring familiar haunts, or discovering new gems together. Flying adds an adventurous touch, transforming a date into a shared journey of exploration and excitement.

Beyond Dinner and a Movie:

Q: If you were to create a perfect date that doesn't involve a traditional dinner or a movie, what would it look like?

A: Venturing through our favorite places in the neighborhood while biking and indulging in ice cream. A delightful blend of activity, spontaneity, and shared indulgence, creating an atmosphere for genuine connection.

Playful Intensity in Dating:

Q: How would you describe your dating style and approach to forming connections with others?

A: Playful and consistent, with a touch of intensity. I'm an 'all in' person, creating meaningful experiences for both of us. No toe-dipping; it's about diving into connections with a genuine, immersive spirit.

Motivation for Dating Unlocked:

Q: What motivated you to join Dating Unlocked, and what are you hoping to gain from this experience?

A: Initially seeking romantic connections, my journey on the show evolved into a pursuit of meaningful platonic bonds. It's about broadening my horizons, learning from diverse experiences, and embracing the richness of human connections in all their forms.

Dating Unlocked: Derek's Journey through Apps, Pasta Classes, and Kinky Carnival Adventures

Embark on a journey with Derek, as Dating Unlocked unveils his candid reflections on dating apps, quirky first date preferences, and the unexpected twists of love amid pasta-making classes and a kinky carnival adventure.

Have dating apps made forming connections easier or worse?

Easier, I think. Online dating makes it much easier to identify potential lovers or partners based on common interests, lifestyles, and sexual compatibility.

If you could choose one superpower to have on a first date, what would it be, and how would you use it?

The power to heal all of my new partner's old wounds and traumas...

If you were to create a perfect date that doesn't involve a traditional dinner or a movie, what would it look like?

I'd extend an invitation to an Italian cooking class. Together, like Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze in "Ghost," we'd sculpt homemade pasta, sip on red wine, and feast on our creation... Hmm, well, hoping they wouldn't be gluten intolerant! lol

A man is illuminated in blue and green and stands with his shoulder to camera while looking into the camera with a smirk

What are three red flags on a date?

- Believes in astrology to the point of scheduling dates based on Mercury's retrograde.

- Takes food from my plate without asking... "Derek doesn't share food!"

- Films an impromptu live stream with their followers in the middle of our date

In what ways has participating in Dating Unlocked changed or influenced your perspective on love and relationships?

Being on Dating Unlocked made me see how crucial it is to just be real and talk openly. Meeting all kinds of people reminded me that it's awesome to celebrate our differences and show our true selves. It's not about trying to be what someone expects, but more about finding someone who digs and complements the real me.

How would you describe your dating style and approach to forming connections with others?

My dating approach is like a puzzle enthusiast tackling a new challenge. I get a kick out of figuring out what makes someone tick and discovering all those little quirks and details that make them interesting. Each date adds another piece to the puzzle, and the fun part is just watching our connection slowly come together...

What motivated you to join Dating Unlocked, and what are you hoping to gain from this experience?

I believe that life is about embracing new experiences, and what better way to do that than in the spotlight of a dating show? I was hoping to gain not just a romantic connection but a deeper understanding of myself and what I truly value in a partner.

Can you share a memorable or unique dating experience from your time on the show?

Having a blast with both Michelle and Bonez during the kinky carnival is something I won't forget. Even though in the end I felt a stronger romantic connection with Michelle, at that moment, I just saw two awesome, fun-loving people I'd enjoy doing all sorts of activities with... including making dildo throwing an official sport lol.

How important is physical attraction in forming a connection, and how do you balance it with other factors when making decisions about potential partners?

Although physical attraction is crucial, in my opinion, a genuine and lasting connection requires more than just the physical. It's a balancing act with other factors like shared values, communication styles, and emotional compatibility. You need to find that sweet spot where both physical and emotional chemistry align, basically.

What are three green flags on a date?

- Overall respectful behavior towards me, including punctuality

- Asks me questions and doesn't just talk about themselves for hours

- A little nervousness on the first date is my number one green flag… It shows me they care, and they genuinely want it to go well.

Amy Unlocked: Navigating Modern Love in the Dating Unlocked Era

Meet Amy, a standout personality from "Dating Unlocked," as she opens up about the modern challenges and joys of finding love.

A woman with pink hair lounges seductively in a boudoir style photo

Have dating apps made forming connections easier or worse?

I think they have made things easier in the sense of accessibility, and as a demisexual, I think I find people more attractive after reading a likable bio or shared interest list than if I were to bump into them at a coffee shop.

If you were to create a perfect date that doesn't involve a traditional dinner or a movie, what would it look like?

A perfect date for me that doesn’t involve dinner or a movie would be something hands on and creative, like a pottery class! Maybe the second date can be picking up the finished product and painting it at the park. If a second date doesn’t happen, you still have a cute pottery piece to walk away with.

What are three red flags on a date?

Three red flags on a date: Comments poorly on what other people wear, do, look like, ect., Struggling to find something to talk to each other about, and if they are rude to servers or any staff anywhere.

How would you describe your dating style and approach to forming connections with others?

I’ve realized my dating style has changed a lot. I struggled to connect a lot with the folks I had the opportunity to date on the show. I think I realized how much physical contact and sexuality are tied into a deeper human connection that I need, either through some shared vulnerability or communication. I think that my dating style is different from my sexuality. This need for human connection is not necessarily tied to time spent knowing a person(s), but to how we get to know each other. I think it also gave me a lot to think about in terms of what blind dating with a visible disability felt like and what that meant for how I navigate future relationships.

How important is physical attraction in forming a connection, and how do you balance it with other factors when making decisions about potential partners?

For me, my physical attraction to someone is very much tied to who they are as a person. For example, after watching someone do something they love, like play an instrument, or when they share what their childhood was like to me, knowing not everyone gets to hear that story, Someone's ability to share vulnerability, empathy, kindness, and artistic drive; someone who can be silly with me; someone who can make me feel safe. It all matters eons more to me than their physical appearance. All those things are what make up attraction to me. Perhaps that is why ‘blind dating’, I have realized, isn’t really for me. I’m not closed off to it, but being able to do an activity perhaps where we are able to dive into that further.

Love Bytes Unlocked: Insights on Dating Unlocked, Red Flags, and Real Talk in Modern Relationships

Dater Brad sat down with us to discuss his thoughts about the dating world after his experience on Dating Unlocked.

A man smiling to camera while standing with his hands in his pockets

Have dating apps made forming connections easier or worse?

No doubt about it, worse. It's like the whole dating scene got a facelift and ended up in this weird place where it's more about scoring points in the bedroom than actually connecting. Shallow waters, and it's pretty disappointing.

If you were to create a perfect date that doesn't involve a traditional dinner or a movie, what would it look like?

Imagine this: chilling at home, devouring some mouth-watering pizza, and diving headfirst into a horror movie marathon. Oh, and let's not forget the golden rule – no funny business allowed. It's all about sharing laughs, trading spooky stories, and embracing the thrill without the traditional date-night pressures.

What are three red flags on a date?

Ever been on a date where the other person turns it into their personal monologue? Yeah, big red flag right there. A conversation involves two people, not just a solo act. If they're keeping their sexuality under wraps from friends and family, that's a head-scratcher. What's the deal with the secrecy? It's a red flag waving in the wind. Rudeness is a deal-breaker. Manners matter, and if they're lacking, it's a neon sign pointing to potential issues with communication and respect.

In what ways has participating in Dating Unlocked changed or influenced your perspective on love and relationships?

Dipped my toes into the Dating Unlocked pool, met a bunch of characters, and you know what? It's like the more things change, the more they stay the same. Sure, got a taste of the variety out there, but the harsh reality is that lies and misleading actions still hang around, whether you're in person or caught up in some reality TV-style app.

How would you describe your dating style and approach to forming connections with others?

I'm all about that monogamy life, taking it slow and steady. No need to rush into things, especially not the first-date antics. I'm into real conversations, shared interests, and digging deeper than the surface. Building a connection before diving into the deep end – that's the game plan.

Adventures in Dating with Davrielle: From Mind-Reading to the Unpredictable Ride of Dating Unlocked

https://video.wixstatic.com/video/1ec4df_a84bbfbe03d245d29392fccfe5c30bb1/1080p/mp4/file.mp4

Embark on a whimsical journey through the dating landscape with Davrielle as she shares her insights on choosing superpowers, red flags, the impact of dating apps, and the unpredictable ride of her Dating Unlocked experience.

If you could choose one superpower to have on a first date, what would it be, and how would you use it?

I'd definitely go for mind-reading abilities. Picture this: I'd casually sip my drink, engage in conversation, all the while decoding the secret thoughts swirling in the other person's mind. It's not about invading privacy, but imagine the advantage of instantly knowing if they're genuinely enjoying the date or coming up with an escape plan in their head. It's like having a real-life cheat code for the dating game!

What are three red flags on a date?

Consistency is key, right? If someone's words are doing the cha-cha with their actions, especially over multiple dates, that's a major red flag. I mean, who has time for a dance-off when you're trying to build a connection? Kind-heartedness is a must, and not just towards you. Watch out for how they treat others, including animals and service workers. A compassionate heart can turn a potential red flag into a green one! Social media openness is the modern litmus test. If they're guarded about meeting friends and family or sharing their online life, it might be a sign they're not ready for a deeper connection. It's like peeling back the layers of a social media onion; the more layers, the better the connection.

Have dating apps made forming connections easier or worse?

Dating apps are like Cupid's digital arrow. They've definitely made the initial steps easier – a swipe here, a message there, and poof, you've got a date lined up. It's like having a magic wand for your social life. But it can get tiresome, and oftentimes people are flakes. As for real-life awkwardness, well, that's a timeless classic. It's not the apps; it's just the nature of the dating beast. The important thing is to make those awkward moments part of the charm.

What motivated you to join Dating Unlocked, and what are you hoping to gain from this experience?

I joined Dating Unlocked on a whim, hoping to stumble upon someone who could handle my quirks and appreciate my humor. Surprisingly, the platform delivered! Life has been a rollercoaster of unexpected connections and intriguing encounters, but this helped me navigate through uncharted territory. Dating Unlocked, with its mix of surprises and uncertainties, was definitely quite the unpredictable ride but definitely one that I enjoyed!

Swipe, Paint, Love: Jamal's Journey from Dating Apps to Unique Dates on Dating Unlocked

We sat down with Jamal to get insight into this beautiful soul and his responses reminded us of just how great he is.

Have dating apps made forming connections easier or worse?

Dating apps have their pro’s and con’s; while they have made it easier to meet new people who you might not come in contact with otherwise, they have definitely made it harder to form connections. We live in an era where everything is fast-paced and easily accessible, and because of that, forming connections on an app can sometimes seem impossible. When dating apps first started, people would take their time having conversations with others and getting to know the person they were speaking to. But could this be because we were still fascinated by the new digital way? I remember as a kid, I would spend hours in chat rooms talking with strangers, playing online games, etc. Now, it’s the same questions over and over with no intention or understanding of how to get to know someone beneath the surface, “Hey, looking for?" or “Hey, you’re cute." We have lost our ability to communicate and form genuine connections with people, and I believe this is because of the digitalized era that we live in, not necessarily because of dating apps in particular.

https://video.wixstatic.com/video/1ec4df_8b84b8f1519149cfb43e6b4339e3e594/1080p/mp4/file.mp4

If you could choose one superpower to have on a first date, what would it be, and how would you use it?

If I had a superpower to use on a first date, it would be time travel. I would have the ability to teleport into the future and see whether this individual held any significance. The issue is that I would be too tempted to use this power prior to arriving at the date!

If you were to create a perfect date that doesn't involve a traditional dinner or a movie, what would it look like?

The perfect date for me would be something laidback and exciting, something that forced you out of your comfort zone and didn’t require, or stripped you of, excessive refinement. Paintballing would be fun because it allows you to have fun and see the competitive side of your date. Also, relaxing and getting to know each other after releasing all the pre-date adrenaline can be quite magical.

What are three red flags on a date?

Not knowing yourself or what you are looking for. Pretentiousness Having no desires beyond sex.

In what ways has participating in Dating Unlocked changed or influenced your perspective on love and relationships?

Being on Dating Unlocked has reminded me to keep an open mind; prior to being on the show, I believed I had it all figured out—personality traits and physical attributes that I’m attracted to, etc. While I’m still confident in my preferences, the show has reminded me that other connections can be formed. If you’re not compatible romantically, platonic connections have equal value, and at the very least, a fun experience is worth celebrating.

How would you describe your dating style and approach to forming connections with others?

My dating style is quite traditional but very low maintenance. I don’t enjoy doing lavish activities at first or all the time because I feel authenticity is lost when you are in grand environments. For me, spending quality time in an environment that allows you to decompress, relax, and enjoy each other's company is the best way to get to know someone. From there, its about digging deep intellectually and sharing memorable experiences.

What motivated you to join Dating Unlocked, and what are you hoping to gain from this experience?

I joined the show for the thrill of doing something I never could have imagined and to potentially meet someone new. The idea of going on dates with individuals who I didn’t select was intriguing. Was I hoping to gain anything from the experience? No, but I was open to anything as long as it was positive!

Can you share a memorable or unique dating experience from your time on the show?

Being in the phone booth was quite a unique experience for me. In theory, it could have been a very sexy encounter, but not so much. It was hot and nerve wrecking because you are so close to this stranger with limited time to truly dive in and test chemistry—the list goes on.

How important is physical attraction in forming a connection, and how do you balance it with other factors when making decisions about potential partners?

Physical connection is very important; not only is it the first thing that sparks your interest, but it also plays a vital role in keeping the flame burning. With that being said, it is only one piece of the puzzle. When you and your partner connect through mind and body, your relationship will have the power to be untouchable.

When it comes to making decisions about potential partners, I like to remind myself that physical attraction doesn’t equal compatibility. If you can’t stimulate my mind, our relationship shows no longevity. Once you’ve captured my interest physically, it's about connecting with me mentally. Once we have both, it's about maintaining what we have.

What are three green flags on a date?

Shows interest in your life/getting to know you. Knows how to maintain a conversation. Is confident, respectful, and not pretentious.

Border2Border Entertainment’s highly acclaimed reality dating series DATING UNLOCKED set to return with a sizzling second season igniting passion, love and true connections in the 2SLGBTQ+ community

Season two of DATING UNLOCKED will make its premiere on February 14th, 2024, on OUTtv, Apple TV+ and Prime Video

https://youtu.be/EYwNdtI8wLY?si=5oO-bkVMO7JP8LCC

Toronto, ON – January 25, 2024

Love takes centre stage once again as the highly anticipated second season of the ground breaking and award-winning reality series, DATING UNLOCKED is set to premiere on February 14th, 2024, inviting viewers to follow daters in the LGBTQ2S+ community as they compete for the chance of true love. The show will be available to stream on OUTtv, Apple TV+ and Prime Video.

Following the success of its debut season, DATING UNLOCKED returns to delve deeper into the lives of hopeful romantics as they embark on a quest for genuine connections and true love. Departing from the confines of curated social media pages and online dating profiles, this season promises an authentic portrayal of individuals seeking meaningful relationships beyond the screen. From the traditional to more radical, there are daters from all walks of life, highlighting one of the many shades of love and interests on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. In the end, they all share the same goal - to find a hook-up, a date or their one and only.

In each episode, the lead dater selects someone they’d like to continue the romance with – by choosing between three prospective dates. To assist these love seekers in creating a connection with the lead dater, each episode involves games, activities and intimate moments tailored to showcase their personalities and interests. After weighing their options, the lead dater extends a secret invite for a second date. Will the chosen person unlock those fuzzy, flirty feelings and show up or leave them alone behind the door?

“Dating Unlocked is a reality series featuring LGBTQ2S+ people, who despite the evergreen popularity of the dating format, are often excluded from or tokenized in the storytelling, reinforcing old ideas that queer people are not deserving of love or relationships – traditional or otherwise.” said creator and producer Charlie David. “We want to make sure Valentine’s Day and the whole month of February is a time for LGBTQ lovers too and Dating Unlocked shows that love, dating and relationships are for everyone in society – including those that don’t fall into the majority.
