The Amazing Power of Positive Thinking

Did you know that we have the power to think ourselves into being sick? The mind is a vastly complex and wondrous thing.

So, if that is true, then the flip side of the coin must be that we can actually improve our health through positive thinking. True? I believe so and I certainly hope so. I like to think there is something that I can control. Choosing a smile is within my power.

I recently had someone tell me that they read a study where subjects' brains were examined after death in an attempt to better understand Alzheimer's Disease. The results were really astonishing. They were particularly looking for reasons why some of the subjects displayed symptoms of Alzheimer's before death, while others with the disease were not yet showing symptoms. Here's what they found out. The only commonality between the subjects with Alzheimer's that were not showing symptoms was a sunny, carefree Pollyanna type of disposition. They were all happy, positive thinkers.

Wow. The power of positive thinking is no doubt amazing, is it not?

Are you the kind of person that makes others feel good?

I was hanging out with some friends the other day. Everyone was in a gloomy mood because of the weather. The report for that night: snow. Again. It's getting to the point where it feels like craziness. This winter has been abnormally harsh on my section of the country.

Then...

In walks another lady. She's smiling from ear to ear and singing "Let It Snow." Everyone instantly began to giggle. She immediately brightened everyone's spirits. The whole room lit up because of her.

Are you a cheerful person? Are you the type of person that others want to be around? Do you make others feel good?

That's the kind of person I want to be. How about you?

The struggles of a writing career

Here's how I envision a writing career. It's like trying to move a boulder the size of a pickup truck with your bare hands. You push, you fight, you cry, you sweat, you heave and ho and grunt just to move an inch. Then, you do it again. And again. And again.

Uh-oh. Is your career going anywhere? You're exhausted and doubting yourself at this point. After all, you're only human. Here's the good news. Don't give up.

Eventually, that boulder will begin to move. It's big and heavy, so once you get it moving, it's momentum will carry the weight. Then, a downhill slope ahead has that boulder taking off without you. That's when you realize that you spent so much time and energy getting that stupid thing going, that you didn't get ready for the work that now lies ahead when your career actually takes off.

My point is this. Work hard. Don't give up. But, prepare yourself for success. You have to see it coming to get there.

A little about me...

Want to know what my first job was or when I wrote my first novel? Are you interested in how I see the difference between a suspense and a thriller?

Join me over at Jane Bled's blog for an interview. Chatting about myself is always tough. I hope I did okay. What do you think?

Seeing the Truth

I write an introductory poem for my books. I found this poem that I wrote in high school yesterday. Book material? What do you think?

Seeing the Truth
By: Destiny Booze

Somewhere inside this darkness there must be a light,
But, struggling through the emptiness I am without sight.

Listening to loud whispers that drift freely in the air,
I reach out to touch what I know must be there.

With a renewed hope I rely on senses that sometimes prove to be untrue,
by bravely stretching out a hand into an endless fog to find nothing new.

People who see my sad condition can only react by being kind,
If only they knew, I am not blind...

Motivational Monday - Hope

Hope
By: KC

As one walks along the road of life
And trips upon a troubles strife,
We commonly cry and stumble a bit.
But we keep on going and will not quit.

This poem was sent into me for my creative corner. If anyone else would like to submit something, please email me at destinybooze@gmail.com

Raise your hand if...

Raise your hand if...

You've given up on all your New Year's Resolutions that you just started a couple of weeks ago.

You tell yourself that you will always have bad luck and nothing will ever improve for you.

You hate your life.

You really don't think that there's a bigger plan for your life.

You feel angry or sad or depressed most of the time.

You're alone and you think you always will be.

I could go on and on with that list. If any of those scenarios ring true with you, take comfort in the fact that most everyone has been there at one point or another. Most of us will return to those points at different times in our lives. Take comfort in the fact that things can and will get better. It's pretty much a guarantee. Life keeps moving. Change is a sure thing.

Now, here's my point. Don't make a resolution this year to lose weight and give up by the fourth day. Instead, make a vow to really change your life in a positive way. Be your own hero. Resolve to make some momentum in your life. This time, YOU choose the direction. Don't go downhill just because it's easy. The view is only visible from the top.

Bring on 2010 - Newsletter and Contest

Bring on 2010!

I'm beginning the year with a romantic thriller!

Here's a Blurb:

From the killer:

No one knows who I am. I answer to no name. Call me rage. Call me vengeance. I am a punisher, an executioner.

There is no fate I fear. No Heaven or Hell. Existence is my curse and my sentence to serve.

I know who will die next.

I swoop inside, unseen, like an apparition. I will kill you. There’s nothing you can do to stop me.

Death has taken me. I am death. Be prepared for my rage. My curse is coming to you…

There's no hope. The killer is using a marvel in the medical field known as techlepathy, a combination of technology and telepathy to produce a telepathic result. He’s reading their minds.

Chris Chambers is a private investigator with great instincts and a shady past. She’s hardened to life, even more so to people, and as tough as the military trained her to be.

Her team’s newest case is a construction worker by the name of Aidan Wolfe. Someone is trying to kill him, someone with extraordinary gifts.

The killer blames Aidan for the injustices in his life, and he wants revenge. He’s coming for Aidan, Chris and her team. He wants them to all die in a terrifying manner, but first, he’ll make them face their worst fears.

The intensity grows as Chris and Aidan deny a growing attraction for each other while they fight to stay alive. Her life is a constant test of discipline, and he makes her feel totally out of control. There is no middle ground for either of them, but in the end, it may not matter, not if they can’t survive.

Can they win? When faced with the inner demons within, will they want to?

Some more news for this year...

Every Friday, I will be posting an email from readers. This email can be a comment you have, a story you want to share, a question you have for me, a funny experience. You pick. It's your day. If you have something to share, send it to me at destinybooze@gmail.com.

Motivational Monday - Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Not that long ago, my grandma asked me to go to the store and buy her "the little waters" she likes. Sure, I say, you just need bottled water, right? No, that's not right. Grandma is very adamant. It's the little waters in the bottle that she uses as drinking water. Okay, Grandma, Aquafina it is.

I love that woman so much!

She knows how she likes things, she's old enough not to care what anyone else thinks and she's not likely to settle!

I'm thinking we should all be a little more like that (minus the ability not to remember the definition of bottled water. Wink) Don't you think so? Are we even certain what we want from life yet? If not, we need to figure it out and determine that we're not going to stop until we get it. No settling! We need to take charge and make our dreams come true.

Start today. The first step? Figure out what we want. Start now.

Manic Readers Review - 4 Stars for Predetermined Endings

MR Review

Angelica Chappell is brilliant, rich, and beautiful so her life must be charmed, right? Unfortunately, although Angelica is famous for developing a new cancer drug that may actually cure cancer, she has attracted the attention of serial killer who not only wants her dead but wants her reputation ruined and her drug pulled from usage. Angelica is certain that the drug, Krytonix, works and that it has been sabotaged but she can’t imagine why someone would do that and it is up to her to prove her drug works; if she lives long enough. William Pierce is a burned out undercover FBI agent gone rogue and when his path crosses Angelica’s there is plenty of sparks and the danger escalates. Can Angelica make William care enough about anything to help her? If William decides to help, can he play by the rules or will he make up his own?

This is a very intriguing plot. A researcher has possibly found the cure for cancer and instead of that making the world a better place, greed and pure evil come out of the woodwork and actually work to make the drug fail. Angelica is worshiped one moment and then hated the next. I loved Angelica’s character, although for being such a brilliant person; I found it difficult to believe she could really be so naïve. Yes, she has been really sheltered but with today’s technology and the rapid availability of information, plus she was an avid reader; I found it difficult to believe she wouldn’t put things together a little faster and have some survival skills. William is a disaster and he knows it. He knows he has gone too far the wrong direction and sees no way to redeem himself. Well good for him but I sure wanted him to get over his pity party a little sooner and get back in the game. Protecting and helping Angelica escape from the evil targeting her seems like a valid for redemption to me! Unfortunately, the bad guy has no intention of waiting while Angelica and William get their act together so from the first page this story is full of repeated attempts to get to and harm Angelica and anyone around her. So despite my skepticism or maybe because of it, I found myself deeply involved in this story, unwilling to put it down for any length of time until I found out what was going to happen! If you love danger, intrigue, and rapidly developing plots that rush the characters toward a dramatic ending, you will love Predetermined Endings!
