The struggles of a writing career
Here's how I envision a writing career. It's like trying to move a boulder the size of a pickup truck with your bare hands. You push, you fight, you cry, you sweat, you heave and ho and grunt just to move an inch. Then, you do it again. And again. And again.
Uh-oh. Is your career going anywhere? You're exhausted and doubting yourself at this point. After all, you're only human. Here's the good news. Don't give up.
Eventually, that boulder will begin to move. It's big and heavy, so once you get it moving, it's momentum will carry the weight. Then, a downhill slope ahead has that boulder taking off without you. That's when you realize that you spent so much time and energy getting that stupid thing going, that you didn't get ready for the work that now lies ahead when your career actually takes off.
My point is this. Work hard. Don't give up. But, prepare yourself for success. You have to see it coming to get there.
