Selfies of (potential) Mistaken Identity
My last white silkie I named Vanna White.

Vanna White – now Bruce
One day she said “f’ing CockaDoodleDoo” and I renamed her Bruce.
In honor of Bruce, I named this latest baby Caitlyn.
I suspect she also is a Roo.
This is the face we make about THAT:
Whatever shall we name Shim if this turns out to be the case?!?

Book Review THE RUNAWAY WIFE
THE BOOK
• Paperback: 256 pages
• Publisher: Harper Paperbacks (July 12, 2016)
Three beautiful French sisters entrust an American hiker with the mission of rescuing their mother high in the Alps.
But what if she doesn’t want to be found?
Recently fired from his high-power finance job and dumped by his fiancée, Jim Olsen has come to the Swiss Alps to clear his head. At the charming Cabane des Audannes, he meets Clio, Thalia and Helene Castellane, who are on a quest of their own: their mother, Calliope, has fled to these mountains to escape her philandering politician husband’s most recent scandal. As snow threatens to descend upon the Alps, the women have come to bring their mother home.
But the sisters are at the point of surrender; it is time for them to return to Paris. Buoyed by wine and inspired by their beauty, Jim impetuously volunteers to assume their search, but soon realizes that he is in over his head. The Alps are filled with beauty and danger, not the least of which is Calliope’s desire to stay hidden. And all the while Jim finds himself haunted by the memory of her daughters and conflicted in his desire for them.
The Runaway Wife is a story of adventure, survival, and romance—and of a man’s discovery of a world outside his conventional life and a new vision of himself within it.

MY REVIEW
Beautiful setting, well developed plot and characters, lyrical writing – I found little lacking in this book by the talented Elizabeth Birkelund. They say ‘write what you know’ and this author seems to know the Alps very well. I think Google research would not have allowed the descriptive depth found within the pages of THE RUNAWAY WIFE. Birkelund knows and loves the territory she describes.
It seems some previous reviewers have found the ending nebulous, but I was quite satisfied with it – I can, of course, not say more in order to avoid spoilers! Neither was I disappointed with any decisions made by characters that may not have always acted in their own best interests – they were so much more human for those they made!
And may I mention birds! Quite charming owls and an elusive falcon are featured. I do love me some books with dogs or birds woven into the story!
Nebulous enough comments?! Let me just say that it is well worth the read and has proven to be my favorite summer reading book so far!
Thanks, TLC and Harper, for the opportunity to read and review this book!
