5 ways to deal with negative people in your life.

On my facebook author page,  about a couple of hours back, I asked what you would like me to write about. I had said that I would pick one topic I liked, and that I would blog about it today.
There were more than a hundred suggestions, in this short span of time.

The one I liked most was this request by Aatmanika Ram.

Aatmanika wanted to know how we can deal with negative people who are family or close friends.

Now, when you say negative people, I am presuming you are referring to people who drain you out, who put you down and who make you feel lousy about yourself. After they leave you feel awful.
Am I right?

We ALL have such people in their lives. Sometimes it is not possible to ignore them as you are living with them!

Here are five things you can do:

1. Examine the source: Mostly negativity comes from jealousy. I have someone in my life (whom I cannot avoid) who leave me feeling drained. When I thought about the things that this person said, I realised it was stemming from deep jealousy. At that moment, I got good insight into  their motive--why they were like that. It didn't stop them from making the same barbs and negative comments, but it sure helped me understand where the rot was stemming from.

2. It's not about you , its about them: Often the only way they can make themselves feel better is if they put you down. The most successful people are the ones who build up the others. They are secure in their place in the sun, and they will happily spread smiles and sunshine. But there will always be the gloom-creators. They don't feel good about themselves and you become a target of their negativity.

3. Give yourself a protection shield: Remind yourself about all the good things about you. Give yourself an extra boost of confidence. Use this as as your 'shield' against the negativity. Maintain a gratitude journal where you list all the things that are going well for you. There will always be thorns in life. We need to focus on the flowers.

4. Reward yourself: Reward yourself for putting up with them! Go read a lovely book, watch something that makes you feel good, phone a friend, get a foot rub/ back massage, play with your pet if you are lucky to have one. Reward yourself with something that gives you joy.

5. Praise their positives: I am sure you can find one good quality about even the most negative person in your life. Find that quality and praise them for it. Watch them beam. They probably don't get appreciated and they probably lack love too.

Hello June! A new post with latest updates from my end.

 Hey there! Hello :)

How have you been and what is new?

If you read this blog regularly, apologies for the delay in updates. I began a new photo challenge in May. I did complete the challenge on Instagram.  But I found it very tedious to constantly cross-post the same picture here as well. Hence I stopped and dropped off the radar here. I hope you forgive me for that :)  If you wish to see the pictures I posted every day, they are all there on my Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/preeti.shenoy/
I also post stories there regularly. Most days, I also post a good morning photo. So join in me on Instagram, to stay connected :)

I have been working hard on my new novel. It will be out later this year, probably in September or October. I am very excited about it and so lost in the world I created, at the moment.

I wanted to share some nice news from my end. I wrote for Dainik Bhaskar for their edit page a few weeks back, and my arrticle was published in 63 editions across 13 states, including the latest Surat Hindi edition and also Surat Gujarati edition which has been published for the last 13 years.

I felt wonderful about this. It is always a writer's dream to be widely read, and to reach a wide cross-section of the world's 2nd largest population is no mean feat! I got many messages (in Hindi!) telling my how much they loved the article.
Thank you for that!
धन्यवाद !
This month Conde Nast India has published my poetry! It was a paid assignment. But what made it extra special is that it's a commissioned piece. (which means I wrote it specially for them, as they wrote to me and said they LOVED my poetry and wanted me to write for them)

Conde Nast is an International publisher with offices in  New York, London and many other  countries like Australia, Germany, France, China, Hungary, Italy, Japan , Korea, portugal, South Africa, Spain etc (to name a few). So you can imagine my delight.

For the month of June, I hope to be posting twice a week.
Doable I think!

Tell me news from your end in my comment box. What's new? What's exciting?
Love
Preeti
ps: See my new blog header? I designed it myself.

Love yourself--Day 5 of May Photo challenge

Day 5 of the May Photo Challenge, where you have to post a picture every day, on a given topic.Click on the hyperlink to know more and see the topics.

I do post everyday on Instagaram, but might update this only once in two days, as I am submerged in writing my next novel.

The topic for day 5 is Shallow

The theme for today's May photo challenge is shallow. A wise person once said " If you do not have a relationship with yourself , then all other relationships that you have become shallow" Love yourself. Explore your depths. Be unafraid. Most of all look at yourself in the mirror, meet your own eyes, say "I love you" and mean it. #mayphotochallenge #theidearoomA post shared by Preeti Shenoy (@preeti.shenoy) on May 5, 2017 at 8:05am PDT

Heights. May photo challenge Day 4

The topic for Day 4 of the May photo challenge is  Heights.

The theme for today for the May photo challenge is Heights. This is my picture for the theme. Can you spot me and my four legged baby? Clicked from a height of 150 feet! #mayphotochallegeA post shared by Preeti Shenoy (@preeti.shenoy) on May 4, 2017 at 7:09am PDT

If you cannot see the photo above, please let me know. I am embedding directly from my Instagram account, which is where I post the pictures from my phone. I also post stories on  my Insta every day--so follow me there to stay connected.

I know many people who are afraid of heights. It's one thing that does not bother me at all. I live in a penthouse, and am perfectly comfortable there.

A new photo tomorrow.
Till then, smile!

Shadows. may photo challenge Day 2

And sometimes it's the shadows that add the depth to life .Day 2 of May photo challenge and today's topic is Shadow. #theidearoom pic credits: @atsshenoyA post shared by Preeti Shenoy (@preeti.shenoy) on May 2, 2017 at 8:37am PDT

Someone asked me if it's my pic, after I shared the above on Instagram. (my instagram id:Preeti.shenoy). Of course, it's me! Why would I post someone else's pic? :) The theme was shadow. We should always face the light, and turn our backs on the shadows.

Those who are new here, I am doing a photo-a-day challenge for the month of May. A new photo every day, on a given theme. Scroll down and see the first post in this series for the list of themes. Good night folks. See you tomorrow!

Happy! May photo challenge #1

For me, it is very important to challenge myself to keep growing. I think the best thing that you can do for yourself is that---push your boundaries.

After I  succesfully did a blog marathon, for the whole of March, I am now taking up a 'Photo a day' challenge for the whole of May! So starting today, you will see a new photo every day!

Since I am working on my new novel, I might be a few hours late in uploading here, but if you want to see my stories, and what I am upto instantly, please do follow my Instagram--my handle is @preeti.shenoy

I found a lovely May photo challenge at The Idea room.
They have a nice theme for each day. All you have to do is click a pic around that theme and post in on your Instagram or Facebook or wherever you like, with the hashtag #theidearoom so that others who are playing can see it too.

The theme for yesterday was HAPPY.

here'  is my photo for the same.

Starting today I am doing the photo a day challenge by @theidearoom .The topic for today is Happy. We clicked this a little while back. So happy to be with my son @atsshenoy
