Two more portraits
Every day, I make a portrait, as a part of Rise and Draw and May drawing Challenge. I post it to Sktchy, then I post it to my Instagram Art Account.
This is apart from the few hours that I spend making the portrait! So please excuse me if I am unable to post daily. (I promise to try, but sometimes, there's genuinely no time!). In case you wish to see it daily, please do follow my Instagram art account. You don't have to open an instagram id to see it. You can also view it on your desktop by clicking on Instagram.com/preetishenoyart
This is specially for all those who read my blog, and don't have Instagram. I find it easy to post on Instagram, as the photo is already on my phone. For my blog, I have to transfer it to my laptop, and then locate it, and then upload it!
Here are the two portraits I made (one yesterday and one today):
As per my tutor's instructions I had to first study the model (Abe Linares) by making many sketches of his different expressions.
The I had to draw him. (he had posed this way for Halloween)
This was great fun to paint.
Today, my model was Marcus Bright.
Here's what I made:
Marcus said he liked the portrait!
I think it is fascinating that you connect to people you don't even know, when you paint them.
As a child, one of my greatest desires in life, was to be able to make a portrait which is an excellent likeness of a person. I was fascinated with faces. We all have two eyes, one nose, two eyebrows, two ears, and a mouth. And yet no two faces are alike (save for identical twins--and even they have a very slight difference).
I love to study faces and people. I am glad, as an adult, I am able to achieve it.
Happy Mothers day to all the mothers reading my blog. (mothers of four legged babies as well as two legged babies)
New post tomorrow.
Come back, and don't forget to leave me comments for this one.

Friday Face!

This is the portrait I made for today as a apart of Rise and Draw. I am taking part in the May drawing challenge where I make a painting every single day. One of the best ways to push yourself to commit to something is to take a challenge, and then post it on social media :)
That way, you are forced to be 'accountable' and you are likely to keep it up.
Weekend is here! Many people make weekend plans. But me?
I am just going to read, work out, sleep and garden.
And of course, being in karnataka, I am going to vote too.
How about you? What are YOUR plans?

Waiting for love.
Though I had completed the drawing challenge, yesterday I hadn't got time to post it on the blog. I had posted it on my Instagram Art page though! So, in case you were waiting for a post from me, I apologise for not updating it yesterday.
Here's the portrait I made yesterday, as a part of Rise and Draw as well as the May drawing Challenge, where I paint one picture every single day. These days, since I am also taking part in Rise and Draw, I get a photo, and an instruction in my inbox every single day!
Here's what I painted yesterday:
And here's what I made today:
For today's portrait, we were asked to illustrate the background, and relate it to the model. To me the model appeared pensive and kind of sad, as though waiting for something or someone. I am fond of Avicii’s music, and I felt sad when he died. Thought this was a nice way to pay tribute to him. The background has words from his song “Waiting for Love.” I enjoyed making this one, and am quite pleased with it.
In case you haven't watched this version of the video of this song, stop reading right now and watch it!!
Beautiful and heartbreaking isn't it?
Tell me in comments, what you think---about my portraits as well as my video.
Tomorrow--a new drawing.
Till then, just take a moment to feel thankful for all the things going WELL in your life.
Life is so unpredictable.

A simple way to be consistent.

This is the portait I made today with water colors and pen. You can see one more that i made as well as the original reference photo on my Instagram art page.
This is a part of Rise and Draw as well as the May Drawing challenge, where I post one new picture that I paint every single day.
Every person who is a subject expert in their field will tell you that the only way to get better and better at something is to constantly keep doing it. I endorse that a hundred percent. Whether it comes to fitness, writing, dance, art or anything that needs discipline, commitment is the key. You have to make a commitment and stick to it, not matter what.
If you find it hard to make a long term commitment, make it for a shorter duration of time--maybe two days, or three days or whatever time period you can manage. Follow it for those three days. If you have managed to keep it up, give yourself a little treat! If not begin over.
The only way to do a task that seems 'impossible and gargantuan' is to break it down into bits. It is easier to be consistent, when the time frame is smaller.
Set small goals. Once you achieve that goal (even if it is a tiny one) you feel good about yourself. Dopamine floods your cells, and makes you feel happy.
And then it keeps you hooked.
It's a great state to be in --the state of constant achievment!
So what are you going to commit to today? How are you going to break it down into smaller bits? If you share in my comment box (those reading this on email--please don't reply to this one; Instead head over to my blog and use my comment box please) I am listening.

A writing tip and a drawing tip, plus a gift for you :)

This is a part of the Rise and Shine that I am doing, and it integrates well with my May Drawing challenge, where I post one drawing that I do, every single day, the whole of May. The above is made with watercolors and I am quite pleased with how it had turned out.
The Artist Cindy Patrick, who assigned this says "You don't have to depict reality while drawing..For that, there are photos. Through your portrait, you have to transform the portrait in such a way that it engages with the viewer and evokes an emotional response in them!”
That was a new insight for me and that’s what I have attempted in this one ! I made one more and if you want to see it, as well as the reference image, you can click HERE.
I think it is the same with writing. We change the facts and details about our characters, and yet there is truth in what they speak, and what they say. In my writing course, I talk in detail about how to create characters from daily life, how to find ideas, how to develop them into stories and much much more.Thecourse is priced at 99.99 dollars.
If you wish to enroll in the course (you get a lifetime access), then I would love to give my blog readers a special coupon code, where you get a 75% off.
Click on image below to redeem it. (or use PREETINEW as coupon code)

If you want to pass on the coupon code to someone who would like to do the course, please do so.
It's a limited number of coupons, after which the price goes up.
While writing fiction or drawing, we don't always have to be 'accurate'. If it was just reporting facts, then it wouldn't be a story, it would be a news report. (I do believe in exensive research while writing the novel. But I will save that for another post)
Sometimes, it helps to see things through a different lens to convey what you most desire to.
What emotion does this portrait evoke in you? Does it make you feel anything? Please do tell me in comments, I would love to know.
Till tomorrow, be calm, be restful.

A Sunday Sunflower

Today's sketch. (a part of May drawing challenge, where I post a picture I paint, every day)
“If roses tried to be sunflowers, they would lose their beauty; and if sunflowers tried to be roses, they would lose their strength.”
― Matshona Dhliwayo
Hope you had a great Sunday, as bright as the sunflower!
What did you do today? I chatted for a long time with one of my closest friends from UK, and then I cleaned my wardrobe. I also slept a lot! :)
New post tomorrow.
Until then, stay bright!

The launch of Love a Little Stronger, and a picture for you :)
I have just come back from the launch of Love a Little Stronger. It was a fabulous event, and I am so overwhelmed with the massive turnout, and the love that my readers showered on me. One of them (Madesh) got me a lovely gift too! He gifted me a framed photograph of my family ! (a picture which I had posted on Instagram). A very cherished gift indeed. Thank you
Madesh!
Here are a few pictures from the launch:
I was in conversation with Arup Bose, who heads Srishti along with Mr.J.K.Bose.
The stage, all set for us.
The fabulous crowd.
My readers--it was a full house.
The interaction was fun! We laughed a lot, chatted a lot and really had a great time. Everyone who came to the launch said so and I was happy to hear that.
I have posted more photos on my Instagram stories and I will be sharing many more photos on my Facebook page tomorrow.
This is the gift which my reader Madesh gave me:
I feel very blessed and grateful to have such lovely and wonderful readers. A big thank you to all of you who came today!
I also thank all of you who read this, for you support me, by reading me :)
I was exhausted after the launch. But when I came home, I remembered the May Drawing challenge, where I have to draw a picture every single day, and post it. A challenge is a challenge, and so I got down to drawing. I drew my bedside reading lamp today. Here's my drawing.
A new post tomorrow!
Till then, stay cheerful and remember to smile.
Goodnight folks!

Ten Reasons why you should attend a book launch by your favourite author. No.9 will delight you!
Why should you attend book launches? Here are ten GREAT reasons! :)
1. You get to hear the author and know what their personality is like when they are not writing.
2. You learn something about 'behind the scenes' that went on in a book.
3.You can ask them questions.
4.You learn something new. (most of the time!)
5.You are showing your love to the author by turning up.
6.You can discuss what the author spoke about with your friends.
7.You will be a a part of a fun event.
8.You can take selfies to post on social media.
9. You discover new books! (what can be a better reason that that?)
10. It is a thousand times better than watching a movie (which you can always catch later!)
For those of you in Bangalore, come and meet me today(5th May) at Sapna Book House, Koramangala where we launch my new book
Love a Little Stronger.

Portrait of a bearded guy
My today's sketch is a part of the #Fridayface series by #Sktchy. Every Friday, they send out a face, to thousands of artists registered.

Amritsar: A city of warmth and sweetness!

Amritsar is a city I have travelled to a few times. The Golden Temple is is spectacularly beautiful, and mesmerizes me each time I visit.
I LOVE the street food in Amritsar. I love the warmth of the people, the noise, the colour, the bustle, the crowd--all of it seeped in history, religion and culture.
So for today's sketch (I am doing a drawing challenge--one new picture, every single day, the whole of May) I thought I would pay tribute to an unknown Jalebi seller in this magnificent city.
Come back tomorrow for a new drawing and a new post.
If you have been to Amritsar, or have always wanted to go, tell me in comments :)
