Shirley Jackson Nomination!
Bound for Evil, which contains my short story "The Reading Room," was nominated for the 2008 Shirley Jackson Awards for best anthology. This is good news, both for me and for Tom English, who couldn't deserve it more.
The Shirley Jackson Awards are, in only their second year, my favorite of the various genre awards and the ones that most often honor the books that I love most. As evidence of that, the rest of the stuff on the 2008 ballot with which I am familiar is almost universally excellent, including a nomination for Daryl Gregory's amazing Pandemonium, which I've been talking up.
Congratulations to everyone who was nominated, and you can expect to see a lot of the titles from that ballot showing up on my "to read" list in the near future.

So Far, So Good
I learned last night that I sold my story "The Worm that Gnaws" to Pseudopod. I'm very excited about this for a number of reasons, including because Pseudopod is awesome and because I think the story will benefit very much from being read aloud. I will, of course, post a link when the story is actually available.
I'm also excited because this means I've got four stories "in press" (the fancy way of saying "sold, but not yet published"), which is the most I've ever had at one time. The others include some things I've not mentioned here yet.
First off, "The Clowder" is still coming out in the second volume of Cat Tales, due out sometime in the future from Wildside Press. That one's been in press for quite awhile now.
More recently, my necromancer-superhero tale "The Power of the Dead" found a home at A Thousand Faces, a quarterly mag of superhero stories, where it'll probably be appearing sometime around October. Finally, my story "Midnight in the Wax Museum" should be appearing in the fourth issue of Dark Worlds magazine. More on all of those as it becomes available.
On top of all of that, The Mysterious Flame is still selling well, and I'm told that we're already down to less than 25 copies remaining! So, in all, it's been a good year for me so far on the publishing front. Now if I could just start actually writing more new stuff...

Planet Comicon
I will be attending Planet Comicon in Overland Park, KS this weekend. I'm not a guest, though several other cool folks are, I'm just going to kick around and maybe do some networking, but if anyone else happened to be going and wanted to meet up I would love to do so. Feel free to drop me a line if you're interested.

Introductions all around...
Hey, I'm Orrin Grey. I write stories about imaginary cats, cursed books, golems, and ape fiends (among other things). I'm also apparently a skeleton, and I certainly do like monsters.
This is by no means the first 'blog I've started. I've got one at orrin.livejournal.com that's still fairly active and I tried to start a sort of group 'blog at The Daily London Massacre, but it's pretty much petered out. I also have a Facebook and a MySpace, though I don't really keep up with them as much as I should. Still, if you want to friend me or anything, I'm Orrin Grey at either place.
For the foreseeable future, though, this is going to be my "official web presence," to the extent that anything about me is very official. I'll post publications and con schedules and other similar things here, so keep an eye out. And welcome aboard.
