I'm told that Titans may Clash…
It sports the worst tag-line in history and is full of kind of dumb trailer moments, but this has actually got me pretty excited about the Clash of the Titans remake. I mean, you're not going to beat stop-motion Ray Harryhausen monsters. You're just not. But this one has a pretty good cast, Louis Leterrier has directed some of the best action around (for my money, at least), and the rumors I've heard say that the movie goes a lot more practical than you'd think. Plus, look at all those...

Boris Karloff Blogathon
It's looking pretty official at this point, I will be participating in the Boris Karloff Blogathon November 23-29, celebrating what would have been his 122nd birthday.
I'm not sure what I'll post about yet. My exposure to Karloff is a little shamefully limited. Maybe I'll talk a bit about The Body Snatcher, maybe I'll try to watch something new for the occasion. Be sure, though, that there will be lots of other people participating who will have way more insightful things to say than I...

Reviews By and About Yours Truly
So, a couple of things. First off, a new review of THE MYSTERIOUS FLAME just went live over at Speculative Fiction Junkie. I think it's the longest review I've gotten yet, and he seems to have liked it, to boot. I'm especially pleased by phrases like: this short book packs as much into its forty-four pages as is humanly possible without in any way feeling like it is overreaching or attempting to force too many disparate elements together." And I'm glad that pretty much everyone has...

After Party
Once again, Halloween has come and gone. Now we begin the 364 day wait until its return.
I apologize for my absence from the Internet for the last couple of days, but my time and attention was devoted entirely to festivities of a seasonal nature. On Friday, my birthday celebration went off without a hitch. I made it through a day of work, went out to dinner with my lovely wife and my roommate to a restaurant where I was pleased to see all the servers in costume and where I tried a bizarre...

A Deficit of Shame
As we draw ever closer to the fateful day, I feel no shame in reminding you that, should you be looking for something spooky to listen to on or around Halloween, you could probably do worse than to check out my story "The Worm That Gnaws" on Pseudopod.
End transmission.

Living Poe Girl
In keeping with my theme of directing your attention toward various seasonally-appropriate shiny baubles, I have been terribly remiss up 'til now in not already pointing you toward S.J. Chambers' series of articles on women in Poe over at Tor.com: Living Poe Girl. Good stuff.

Haunting
It looks like I have (unsurprisingly) pretty thoroughly dropped the ball on this whole "Halloween advent calendar" idea. That said, hopefully I've been supplying everyone with excellent (if sporadic) seasonal frivolity.
On Friday night I went with some friends to a couple of the local haunted houses. A simple fact that I'm not thankful for often enough is that KC has some of the best haunted houses I've ever been to. I would put any one of them up against any other house I've ever...

Mike Hoffman
This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to find when I started doing these Halloween advent posts. Today, I was looking for something else entirely unrelated when I came upon the website of artist Mike Hoffman, who is like Frank Frazetta with added Halloween. (Warning: In fine Frazetta style, there are quite a few naked ladies in that gallery.)
I've included my favorite from his pieces, a completely awesome image from Ray Bradbury's The Halloween Tree:

From Green Hell
Green Hell, directed by James Whale and featuring a cast that includes Vincent Price, has always been on my list of movies to watch someday. Hell, I even wrote a story where I stole the title. I still haven't watched it. But this image, gotten by way of Golden Age Comic Book Stories, ensures that it'll be pushed farther up the list.
(For bonus amusement points, note that the statue appears to have been repurposed for, or maybe repurposed from, The Mummy's Hand, which came out the same...

Lost Days
Well, I'm glad my last post was a double because I missed… what? Five days?!
Yeah, sorry about that. Life intruded a bit on my free time, though not always in a bad way (for once). Nor am I certain how much attention the Internet is going to be receiving from me in the immediate future, either, though hopefully I'll get to post a little more regularly during the remainder of the month. If I have missed something in the last few days that I would normally have commented on, please either...
