How’s that for a catchy title fellow kulturCritic’s? This one came to me in all the usual ways. Mulling over comments made on Sandy’s post last week – one by our very own Heretick (HT) regarding a Chris Hedges post regarding our “liberal [patrician] protectors”, and then stewing over it for a few days over the customary few beers at night and early morning walks (aka, stumbling about in the woods) the next day. But the undercurrents of all the spew you’re about to be subjected to have been busy percolating upward through my now geriatric consciousness for a whole lot longer than that –pretty much nearly all of my 55+ years now it’s fair to say.

As many of you know, I have been back in the ‘land of the free’ for about a month, where the eagle soars without constraint.  The most enlightening aspect has been my access to  the nightly news and the talking-head ‘news’ shows on the air virtually 24/7.  What have I seen?  Well, I can tell you that the channels I flipped through have been focused almost exclusively on the relatively minor, yet by no means insignificant, miscarriage of justice in the Trayvon Martin murder case.  Again, I am not trying to minimize that clusterfuck by the Florida legal system.  And its implications for further racial divisiveness in this country are clearly evident.

Ok kulturCritics, let’s take a little time for some free-associative thinking on one of my favorite topics, America’s historical and ongoing (apparently with no end in sight either) fascination with all things war. I’d like to set aside for this discussion all the more obvious components that drive us: the obvious economic benefits to establishing what amounts to an entire global economic sector based on blowing things up so that they can be built right back up again and the obvious benefit of establishing what amounts to the largest unemployment service the nation’s ever known, with the added benefit of serving as an indoctrination service (USA! USA! USA!) for its many inductees.
