Feeling like an author and writing book reviews
I went to an Oregon Christian Writer's Conference on Saturday--great talks, great food, great things to learn, and great people! But the highlights for me were:
When I put out my books on the bookstall, someone else came over and stood them up more visibly, as if I were a real author worthy of display. When the keynote speaker, Jane Kirkpatrick, saw me, she remembered me! AndWhen Jane Kirkpatrick was speaking, she even mentioned me!!!!Okay, so I didn't sell any books, but I did suddenly feel li...

When a physicist turns to writing novels, expect vengeance

When a best-selling crime author turned amateur sleuth tries to solve the mystery of decapitated females, you can expect a gripping roller-coaster ride. But what about when a physicist turns into a novelist... with a dog?
Enjoy this post from physicist novelist Harry James Krebs, then read on for an excerpt, li...

Given a choice between weeding and reading...
Given a choice between weeding and reading, reading will almost always win. Unless I'm too far behind with the yard-work I guess.
The sun is shining. The grass is growing. The weeds are growing faster. And the dahlias have yet to let their noses show. Meanwhile the laundry basket doesn't grow. The laundry room's a disaster. And I really need to download a few more hours to extend my days. Coffee helps, I'm told, but I can still fall asleep as easily after a caffeinated cup as before. Still, pi...

A ring at the doorbell

I miss having a dog when there's no one to curl up beside me while I read.

But the star of my story, Passage, in Hero's B...

Time off is good, but so's reading
After last week's fried hard drive disaster, I took some time off from catching up and enjoyed at trip to see wild lupin fields above the Deschutes River. What a wonderful walk!
The dog thought so too!
But I have been reading as well, so pull up a chair, grab some coffee, and see if any from this eclectic collection can grab your attention:
First is Dream Child, by J. J. DiBenedetto. Third in the Dream series, this one sees Sara working in a city hospital, juggling three children and a job, and...

Why Alaska?

Today I'm enjoying the joy of mysteries again with a guest post from another mystery writer,Stephanie Joyce Cole, whose novel of unexpected romance, personal reinvention, and mysterious suspense is set in Alaska. We visited Alaska a few years ago and loved it, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to ask the author:

Do computers scream when they die?
I'm screaming... crying... flinging my hands in the air in abject despair, and I'm wondering if the computer would do the same if it could.
But it's been a good week, seriously. Look at all those book reviews I posted, and note my frequent absence from Facebook and Twitter. I've been writing and editing and even beta-reading for a couple of friends. And today... Today was the day I was going to finally finish that last read-through of Infinite Sum, ready to send it back to the publisher. Today...

Printed books are cool!
Printed books are cool! My husband can leave one by the bed and read it every night. When he finishes he can place it subtly on my night-stand, a reminder that he thinks I'll enjoy it too. How would he do that with an ebook?
Printed books are easy to carry around, without being afraid I'll drop them or spill coffee on them. Of course, spilling coffee before my husband reads the book would not be recommended.
Printed books feel comfortably un-technological in the hands. Oh dear. Am I showing my...
