WeWriWa: Two S*A*L*E*S and a Prince of a Guy . . . PRINCE OF DREAMS
Sharing from my final Terriot prince’s book before turning to the last chapter of the By Moonlight series which is in the process of being formatted (Squee!). I never expected Kip Terriot, the youngest prince in the House of Terriot to catch my heart, and apparently neither did Ophelia Brady, the daughter of his employer - the man he’s sworn to destroy. But one doesn’t have to cast a Tarot spread to see the future for these two after reading this almost morning-after scene.
On his way in to work, Kip paused at the foot of the stairs to watch her descend and it took all her concentration not to trip and tumble to his feet as the magic of the night before returned in spades, or rather cups, at first glance. Apparently, for him, too, as hazel eyes grew smoky and his smile spread slow and wide, releasing those killer dimples as he said, “I was hoping I’d see you.”
Phe managed the rest of the steps without jellied knees hurrying her descent. Even several feet away was too close for her not to feel the magnetic pull between them. She was always surprised by how tall he was, how attractive and totally into her he seemed to be . . . the way he’d been last night.
Before she could assemble speech, he caught her hand, pressing something silky into her palm, voice rumbling, soft and husky, “I somehow ended up with these and really, really want to see them on you, as promised.”
Her panties.
Stuffing them into her sloppy bag, Ophelia dragged up a shaky breath and ragged smile, stammering, “I’m just on my way out since I didn’t get everything accomplished that I needed to last night.”
“Me either . . . my fault,” he slipped in with the hint of a wink.
It took every scrap of her strength not to turn and watch him walk away, which was almost as agitating as his approach.

WeWriWa: Brainless to Braveheart . . . PRINCE OF FOOLS
When things are at their darkest, those who could comfortably remain behind the scenes step up to become heroes, both in fiction as well as in our real world, today. In PRINCE OF FOOLS , Rico Terriot pushes himself from his idle, complaisant life to protect those he loves by becoming the hero he needs to be in true Braveheart style as he trains and rallies his clan to face a greater enemy than their fear.
“Here in your sheltered little community, you don’t know what fear is, that cold that seizes up in your belly worse than any hunger. You don’t know what loyalty is, that unquestioning drive pushing you to leap in front of another to take a bullet without hesitation. You don’t have the kind of pride that makes death preferable to disgrace. You’ve never known a threat to your families or your clan that could tear all you love away in an instant . . . but you will. It will come to your city, to your comfortable homes, to crush and conquer everything you know. It’ll come from the North, and there is no place you can hide, no mercy you can beg for, and no future you’ll want for your children. That’s what’s coming, not from Memphis, not from Tahoe, but from the cold and the unforgiving who are not like us.
“I can teach you how to become a force they’ll be afraid to confront, if you’ll listen, if you’ll trust me and yourselves. I don’t plan to die here, but I don’t know how to surrender. Will you follow me?”

Add to that, a delivery of awesome cupcakes from my niece’s new bakery (The Mad Batter! Don’t you love it!) right to chairside, followed by a trip down the street to share some with my D-i-L and grandguy! Man, oh man, did I need that reminder of what it was like to be normal (in a safe way!).

But best laid plans fall before her desire for the one male she can't resist, the one who will never trust her once burned by her necessary deceptions. Saving her Terriot prince from plans already in motion may cost more than her inheritance . . . the price could be her life.
He was everything she desired in handsome face and masculine form. Wanting him went far beyond those surface delights, to places she’d never imaged finding peace and potential happiness. His heart was strong and courageous, his will unbendingly decent, his spirit beautiful and infinitely intriguing with all its shades of complexity. She’d never tire of looking at him or learning about him, perhaps even from him.
She’d never wanted anything so much in her entire life as what she saw when he gazed up at her in question.
His caution ebbed away, and she saw trust. Absolute, soul-stripping trust. And it broke her heart because Mia knew she wasn’t worthy. She would hurt him, had hurt him. She wouldn’t mean to but eventually who and what they were would crush what they wanted and what they might have meant to one another.

IWSG: C-C-C-Changes to the Publishing Industry
Our Insecure Writers Support Group question for this month is There have been many industry changes in the last decade, so what are some changes you would like to see happen in the next decade?
As someone whose been around the industry block for more than one decade, I’ve seen more changes than most, from submitting typed pages in a manuscript box to doing editor pitches on Twitter (not me, per say. I’m not that evolved). I’ve barely caught up to the changes in the last year let alone ten! Publishing is in its own Industrial Revolution started in the digital era and exploding with self-publishing. We went from having the Big Six to the Six Billion Pound Gorillas Amazon and Facebook collecting cover charges at every door. But what I’d like to see is more industry changes within our own author ranks. That’s why I’ve been busy One Clicking.
Diversity wasn’t something that hit me personally and professionally until Romance Writers of America was right in the middle of a huge upheaval going into 2020 on behalf of systematically stifled non-White authors. This is the industry change that’s been long overdue and will outlast this decade. So many brilliant, talented voices are finally being recognized and explored by new readers. THIS! This is what the new decade needs. Do a search on Twitter to discover lists of wonderful Black authors in every genre from Fiction to Fantasy and YA that are hitting bestseller lists because readers are finally aware of them. Support Black authors/Authors of Color by buying their books and reading them, by retweeting and reposting, by leaving reviews and recommendations, by asking for them in bookstores.
Children and young people, as well as adults, need to read more about characters like them, as well as those who are different, who are brave, are loved, who struggle and who succeed. Change this new decade by celebrating ALL authors with stories to tell. I’m looking forward to reading them!

WeWriWa: Playing with Fire . . . PRINCE OF POWER
I’m picking back up where I left off with my House of Terriot mini series by celebrating my Prince of Power, Colin Terriot, in this week’s excerpt. Enjoy with a little get-you-in-the-mood music.
It’s always combustible when you pit two strong, determined enemies against one another . . . but it gets especially hot when one of the things they’re fighting is their attraction to each another. I’ll be featuring Mia’s POV next weekend. Until then, if you haven’t yet had the chance, now’s the time to grab up a copy of my HOUSE OF TERRIOT 4-book boxed set which includes all four of my too hot to handle couples for only $3.99! Sizzling summer reading!
What had happened to him since he’d hung out his shingle here in the Big Easy where nothing had been easy, that’s for damned sure? The sense of unity within his family had been ripped apart. He’d placed himself on a path without knowing where it led, doubting everything he’d been so sure of before climbing on this bullet train to disaster with a female he knew he couldn’t trust.
He’d lost faith in his goals and respect for his king, ruined the tentative relationships he’d begun to build with Rico and Kip, and none of those monumental things seemed to matter as he mooned over Mia Guedry.
He never let anyone get close to him. After those he’d loved were torn away, he’d sworn he’d never willingly suffer that again. Then, he’d fallen for Cale’s grand ideals, had let his brother’s new mate cuddle up to a warm fuzzy part of him that made him uncomfortable as all hell, looked forward to the often irritating company of his siblings, and had drunk the Kool-Aid in the whole Unite the Clans business.
But Mia . . . she wasn’t demanding small concessions. She’d set fire to his world!
Was it passion or arson?

WeWriWa: The Pause that Refreshes . . . RISE BY MOONLIGHT
Okay, I confess. Last week, I was a wreak. But now that the scramble to get in one last read thru on my W-I-P is complete, it’s been swept from my hands and into those of my trusty line-editing critique partner/retired English teacher for that final whack of a ruler. Grammar is NOT my forte (even though I finally learned what a preposition is after doing homework with my 7th grade grandson!). Now comes my favorite part of writing . . . a break! And it’s just what my hero of the By Moonlight series needed, too, as we visit this week’s excerpt from RISE BY MOONLIGHT .
All work, no play. Not a good scenario. So, what does one do on a two-week break? Being OCD, I had a loooong list of tasks, but being ADD as well, I promptly overlooked it to do the one thing I needed to do most . . .
Time had escaped him as he’d run the woods with the Terriots. Hours lost meaning as they’d hunted and challenged, at one with the earth and the air and the sky, basic beings driven by uncomplicated joy within the security of the pack. He hadn’t experienced such freedom . . . since his father had taught him those secrets he’d never shared with another, until now. That their kind could shift into a pure animal form, one of four-legged simplicity.
The day had been more than simple fun. He’d been pushing them, testing them, gaging their abilities. And they’d far surpassed expectations. If he had to go into a battle he wasn’t sure he could win, they were who he’d want at his side.
But would they be enough?
My zen place is Tucson, AZ. The mountains, the space, the fresh air (which unfortunately is being devastated and polluted by a very scary fire on those beloved acres! Send positive thoughts their way!) so I’ve created a mini-desert on the patio to enjoy with my cat and my second cup of coffee each mid-morning. Nothing but the sound of leaves rustling, birds chirping . . . and the neighbors’ lawn mowers . . . arghhhh!
For those of you who tackle your own grammar, here’s a handy chart so you can make sense of your proof reader’s comments’.
Hope you’re having a great weekend, fellow Warriors. I’m hoping for a little rain to cut these near-90s temperature, but being in Michigan, it’s better than snow!
Happy Writing!! And don’t forget to take a break.

WeWRiWa: Herding Cats . . . RISE BY MOONLIGHT Final Revisions, #WeWriWa
Cats Herding GIF from Cats GIFs
If you've ever had one cat, let alone the three I have, and have tried to put them in a carrier to go to the vet, you’ll know exactly where I am this weekend in the last revision of RISE BY MOONLIGHT . I started out my career as a one draft writer – from my typewriter direct to the bookstore. That pretty much continued for the majority of my career, with only minor bumps along the way. . . until I started the final By Moonlight book in a series that began over ten years and 14 books ago. Over ten main couples, 14 major villains, and an MGM cast of thousands of secondaries, each with their own issues demanding to be addressed in the 400-some pages I have . . . Okay (deep breath) I’m OCD. I can handle this. They all just have to get with the same program . . . like the hero and heroine in this excerpt.
So . . . action scenes yanked from mid-book to ending, favorite chapters and characters gutted (No paragraphs were harmed, just saved for extra content!), and the last third of the book all reshuffled. Eyes crossed and finger flying, I’ve got the final few scenes left to restructure and then . . . another read through. I can’t wait to see the project I never wanted to end off my frickin’ desk!
Taking a step back . . . Just a reminder that The HOUSE OF TERRIOT four-book boxed set is still on sale to catch you up on those pesky plot points. Have them all read (but not re-edited!) and be right up to speed for the RISE BY MOONLIGHT release in July!

Like them, I thought I was golden until I sent my 98,000+ word final edit out to trusted Beta readers who loved the storylines and the characters but . . . agreed that they didn’t mesh into a satisfying story. Too many choppy scenes. Too much secondary character drama. And worst of all, a climactic ending that just . . . wasn’t. And this a week before the project was slated to go to my line editor! For a book I promised would be out in July!
“I don’t want to change who you are, Max, and hope what I am is still what you want for the long haul. I’ve never cared what anyone else thought of me or wanted from me . . . until you. If you need me to be something else, someone else, I can try if it will put your mind at ease and let you sleep nights. I can’t bear for you to be miserable.”
The first glimmer of dampness in her eyes brought him around the big table to crouch at her side so they faced one another and the problem directly. His stripped bare honesty clutched at her soul.
“Charlotte, who you are is who I love. I would never demand that you change. But I would ask you to be careful and to understand my fear isn’t due to some lack in you but rather a weakness in me that couldn’t bear to face a future without you, especially now. All I ask is that you not jump to be the first through the door in every situation.”

WeWriWa: Take Me In, Sighed the Snake . . . PRINCE OF HONOR/HOUSE OF TERRIOT 4-Book Boxed Set, #NewRelease #BookDeals
While I’m powering through final edits for RISE BY MOONLIGHT , this month I’ll be sharing from the four books leading up to the climactic end of the By Moonlight shapeshifter series, starting with PRINCE OF HONOR , Turow and Sylvia Terriot’s tumultuous story. He’s the shy, loyal brother charged by his king to return the female he’s always loved to their mountaintop home where she’ll face fatal charges of treason. She’s a desperate schemer struggling against her conscience to save her life at the cost of the only male she’s ever trusted. Here’s a peek at their dire situation.
Turow knew better than to believe what she wanted him to see—what he wanted to see, still aching all over from his last lesson. Better to die with some dignity intact than to lead this lovely serpent to the bosom of their family.
He stared at the key she dangled before him—to his cuffs and his freedom.
“When he finds it gone,” she continued with less amusement and more trepidation, “I’ll be in his sites, too, so swear you’ll protect me, Turow, and we can go home.”
Such a sweet, deadly deal, like everything Sylvia offered, too good to be totally true. He had no desire to remain chained to this chair until James arrived with a machete, but once burned and scarred by this female more deeply than any of his brother’s tortures, he didn’t jump at the opportunity.
“There’s only one way I can protect you if we return to the compound.”
She regarded him warily, sensing bad news behind his smooth offer but having no choice. She swallowed then tipped her chin up to an arrogant angle and asked, “What is it?”
“You return to our mountain wearing the mark of our bond.”
The dynamics between Turow and Sylvia are spark-filled, heart-aching and always a surprise, making them one of my favorite couples.

IWSG: Putting the Insecure in IWSG!
I’ve got a secret. It’s deep and dark and one I’ve carried since the first of my 68 books was published back in 1987.
Our Insecure Writers Support Group question for June is: Writers have secrets – What are one or two of yours, something readers would never know from your work?
The funny thing about my secret is I never had a problem with it until I was published. I’ve always been a writer. I’ve never wanted to do anything else. I scribbled through notebooks of lined paper, have boxes of trial and errors someplace in the basement, and even told my mother when she insisted I go to college that, yes, I’d go but all I’d still want to be was an author.
Getting that first contract was the proudest moment of my life. That was back when I didn’t know another writer lived in the state of Michigan and had never met one in the wild. I had a local news reporter come to my house for an interview and had my picture taken with my two young sons posing with a stack of my two first releases that came out in the same month. It was a full- page article on the front of the Entertainment section! But all I took from reading the article was “Church-going housewife writes romance novels – oh, how cute and . . . naughty.” That headline might well have been “Baptist Writes Smut!” My now ex was horrified and hoped no one saw it - until he was teased mercilessly at work. His family never, EVER spoke about my writing (except for my nieces and nephews and my mom and sisters!). What should have been my proudest accomplishment felt more like a walk of shame. Something I should hide.
Everyone knows a romance writer’s cross to bear is the snickers (and not the yummy kind!). “When are you going to write a ‘real’ book?” “Oh, a love story. How sweet!” “I don’t read THOSE kinds of books.” When in a pack of writers, it’s easy to blow off those jibes but when circulating in a crowd of strangers it became my dirty little secret NOT to share. When meeting new people outside the industry, I never passed out bookmarks, never spoke of new releases or boasted of my backlist. The question of “What do you do?” was always answered, “I’m a stay at home mom”, “I work for an attorney,” not “I’m the award-winning author of 68 published novels!”
I must admit, my friends, my employers and especially my critique group never let me get away with cringing modesty, especially when one of the attorneys (now a judge!) read portions of my love scenes over the intercom at the office with such good-natured relish, I had to laugh and stop taking myself so seriously (and his wife and my fellow assistants grabbed up all my new releases!).
Thirty years later, I’m proud to say I’m in semi-recovery. I still shy from book signings and can’t make myself chase down strangers waving a copy of my newest release. But I DO, when asked what I do, admit that I’m a published author - of books. Yes, romance in general but in particular– historical, contemporary suspense, paranormal, a horror movie adaptation and screenplays, and self-help for writers chap books. I’m a writer. That’s what I do. I’m not rich, I’m not famous, but I’m happy doing what I love to do.
The secret is out!
So, this is me – boldly promoting my first four-book boxed set The House of Terriot , a mini-series from the soon to be 15-book By Moonlight dark shapeshifter series.

WeWriWa – Running wild with “The House of Terriot” 4-Book Boxed Set! #NewReleasee #BookDeal #WeWriWa
Sometimes you just gotta shake off the weight of everyday things and let your hair down. Of course, when you’re a shapeshifter running with the pack, that takes on a whole different meaning. Especially when those friends are princes in the House of Terriot , the dark, deadly and delicious heroes from my just released 4-book boxed set! Trust has to be earned, as in this scene from Rise by Moonlight , the next and final book in my By Moonlight series that follows on the heels of The House of Terriot boxed set.
I’m in the final stretch of revisions, so while I’m getting Rise by Moonlight into shape for a release in July (!), I’m giving readers a chance to run with the wild boy brothers of my new House of Terriot 4-book boxed set that leads up to the events in the concluding book of the series. Even after proof-reading all four books several times (until my eyes crossed!), I confess, I still love each and every one of them!
They were impressive, all taut flesh pulled over muscles hard as violently hewn rock, each ruggedly beautiful physique marred with harsh imperfections caused by unimaginable things. They moved almost eerily in sync, not speaking as they breathed in the wildness of the dawn before jogging across the yard.
“Go ahead.”
Max gave a start and glanced her way.
“Go with them. You know you want to.” When he hesitated, she gave him a nudging, “You can work any day, but how often do you get to play outside with your friends? Hurry before they get too far ahead.”
They’d disappeared into the thick woods by the time Max slipped out through the French doors, leaving his designer suit coat, linen shirt, tie and Italian loafers trailing behind him.
To run.
Here’s a little reminder of why . . .
So, when I say, “Is it H.o.T. in here or is it just me?” No, it’s them!
