Hidden among the rice fields of Canggu, the Bali Equestrian Centre(BEC) offers horse lovers the opportunity to saddle up and explore Bali on horseback. Upon entering their expansive premises, a vast garden greets you, behind which sits the stables and a huge indoor riding area. Those more versed in horseback riding can use these indoor facilities to hone their skills in dressage or jumping, and a large lunge arena is used for individual lessons; one-on-one and group lessons are available for anyone keen to learn, with their highly qualified international trainer following you like a shadow around the grounds.
-More advanced horse riders can enjoy escorted hacks around the estate or longer rides through the beautiful Canggu countryside. No need to bring anything with you as they provide everything onsite from helmet, boots, special riding pants, and even body protectors during the course of your lesson.
-Perhaps most popular amongst tourists are the BEC Tours, offering two options of either village or beach tours. Meandering through the village roads and green countryside that has made Canggu a popular spot, traveling by horseback offers the opportunity to discover places and views difficult to reach by foot. Their beach tour is another great Bali experience, walking along the beach is one thing but a majestic trot over lapping waves during sunset is simply a picture perfect moment. The tours are only at walking pace, and are accompanied by a ‘groom’. All of the horses at the centre are treated very well, and therefore they are well mannered and easy to control.
-Whether you’re an experienced rider or a keen novice, horse riding offers a fantastic chance to see Bali in a whole different way. So, if you have a passion for Westerns or fancy yourself as a bit of a cowboy (or cowgirl), then head on over to the Bali Equestrian Centre.

The ancient Ayurveda massage technique from India enhances energy and refreshes you with the brisk invigorating strokes. Your therapist will customise health-giving oils, which aid the natural defense mechanisms of the body and to correct dosha disorders. Oil massage is consistently used throughout Ayurvedic massage treatments. During a treatment, a subtle transfer of electromagnetic energy takes place between the therapist and the client, so it is important to trust and feel ‘good vibes’ with your therapist. One must feel receptive and safe in order to allow the energy of the therapist to facilitate the healing process. Focuses on the full body and scalp to give you relief of aches and pains, mind - body balance, and detoxification of the body.

When the elements of a classic dining restaurant meet the décor and the ambiance of a modern Mediterranean ‘casa’, a charming and convivial restaurant is born. Mellow and ostentatious vibe in the dining room, Miura Pintxos Bar & Grill introduces a relaxed and friendly take on typical casual dining. It is stylish without meaning to be – rustic yet urban; a nonconformist kind of style. This is definitely a dine experience that must be tried.
As I sat back in a bamboo-woven chair, I admired the glistening tableware atop the pristine linens. Clearly, the management team has shaped the vibe of this endearing restaurant, alive with passion and personal touches. My taste buds were captivated as the lively ceiling fans send the smells of a simmering paella throughout the breezy dining room, dancing to the sounds of Latin-American flamenco.
As for the taste, my favorite would be Iberican Pork Belly, slow-cooked, a cheap cut with great flavour and soft texture. Miura Patatas is also recomended. It felt me that those meals transported to the heart of a Spanish coastal town, indulging in the ocean’s delights with crisp and refreshing accompaniments.

Living in Bali for more than five years with regular stays in different accommodations, I thought I had gotten enough of what Bali offers. It is difficult to get bored with Bali, indeed. There is always something new to enjoy in this spectacular place. They say “the world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page”. Well, Bali is a complete book, and therefore, this time, I decided to take my family for a weekend gateway in Pecatu area.
We stayed at New Kuta Hotel for a night, and we had to stop for a moment to admire the sight in front of the hotel. My daughters had a hard time suppressing their glee, and who could blame them? Even we had a hard time believing that we were about to spend a night in this stunning accommodation. As the saying goes “one’s destination never a place but a new way of seeing things,” the hotel management made it possible for my family and I to not only see new things in the hotels but also to think outside the box.
We opted to stay in a family room, posh didn’t seem a good enough description for the place. Comfortable queen sized beds with fresh air conditioning greeted us. They provided three separate rooms, which means my daughters had their own space. After all the things I had seen, I felt some respite was required. Therefore, imagine my surprise when I found that the rooms had their own balcony overlooking the endless sea.
This hotel has a spacious swimming pool with poolside restaurant and bar where we spent time there for hours on one lovely afternoon. The restaurant though is facing directly to a golf course and the azure sky, such a perfect spot to hang around especially during sundown hours. Tired with all the hotel facilities, the famous Dreamland Beach is only within a few steps away outside the hotel.
At the end of my stay at New Kuta Hotel, I realized that “Travel is more than just the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in ideas of living.” In relation to that, as for me, I brought back the greatest bonding effect I have never realized between me, my wife and my daughters. That is something that money cannot buy.

As the saying goes, “Your health is your wealth.” Water is one of the free resources that humanity is blessed with. The availability of water to mankind is unlimited, but the same water can either make or mar your health. In relation to that, I recently hunted down water treatment therapy and found a couple of spas that provide this therapy in the southern part of Bali.
With sophisticated water treatment plants in place, Awarta Nusa Dua Luxury Villas & Spa ranks first on my list because their priority is to provide safe, clean and healthy water for everyday life. As I inquisitively asked to be shown the features that associate the spa with wellness, I was led to the water therapy section where I felt instantly connected. The section has been so well designed and built up in such a manner that I felt relaxed after the Kneipp therapy not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
The Kneipp therapy was not as tall of an order as I thought. I immersed my arms in the cold water halfway up my upper arm. Gently, I kept my arms moving while I was counting aloud so as to keep me from breathing fast. After just thirty seconds, I was instructed to warm my arms back up by moving them in a circular motion. After swirling my hands in the water, I moved on to my feet. With my feet completely immersed in water like a stork, I began to walk, removing each leg entirely from the water with every step. Afterwards, I pulled on a pair of warm wool socks as instructed.
Thalasso Spa at Ayana Resort is also great place to visit if you are around Jimbaran. A combination of a ritual that combines the sea minerals together with a unique “wet” facial and massage defined my Thalassotherapy experience at Ayana’s Thalasso Spa. As a staunch natural and alternative treatment advocate, it wasn’t such a big deal for me to make the decision to take part in this therapy. As I laid on the water-heated massage bed, my body, wrapped in highly concentrated seaweed, sent a chill down my spine. Soon, it was time for perspiration as a result of a speed up of the internal respiration.
Feeling the effects of the amazing Thalassotherapy, my body parts once again came into harmony with one another. As the therapist carefully applied the balm all over me and started doing what she knows best, it dawned on me how much my body needed this therapy.
Like an eagle perching on a branch after a long day of flying, I was feeling very relaxed after the therapy. As a wise man used to say, “Value all the time you have together as it may end sooner than you think,” I valued the time I had at the spas. I experienced a psycho-vegetative relaxation without the need of going through sessions with a psychologist. I experienced a great relief from stress, tension, the pain in my back, my muscles and even my emotions. A relief I never thought I would feel, even with help from the best physicians.
