Now it feels real...

THE BELLY DANCER came out last Tuesday, but with a new baby to take care of at home I didn't have a chance to get out and see it in a bookstore until Saturday. The thrill was definitely worth the wait, though! I couldn't believe I was actually seeing it, right there, face out, two titles down from my Southern California Writers Conference advisor Drusilla Campbell's BLOOD ORANGE (orange spine) and right above IN COLD BLOOD (I just saw "Capote" a couple of weeks ago and now have a whole new respe

Hey, look, I'm a success...

One of the best things about getting published is having the opportunity to say thank you to people who helped make it happen. I had some truly wonderful instructors in the UCLA Extension writers' program, especially Phyllis Gebauer, Caroline Leavitt, Lisa Teasley and Susan Taylor Chehak. I feel honored to be recognized by the program, and also to be able to express my appreciation for their wonderful work.

The Publication Day winner is...

It's been a great publication day! I discovered more good reviews (Bookreview.com and BarnesandNoble.com, to name a couple) and that book sales are already strong. Yay :-)

For all of you who bought the book: THANK YOU!

I haven't had much time to soak it all in yet -- most of the day has been spent with the little one running to and from the post office to get the bookmarks and other materials out to all the people who have requested them from here and the belly dance forum on Bhuz.com, along with

A 30-year writing odyssey...

I just got around to reading the latest issue of Costco Connection (okay, I really only read the book section) and I'm still in awe of the story behind Selden Edwards' wildly successful debut novel, THE LITTLE BOOK, which is Costco Book Buyer Pennie Clark Ianniciello's pick for the month. According to the article, Edwards spent 30 years writing this book. Wow. The writer who retired from a career in education in 2003 says, "I'm a late bloomer. ... My fuse just burned really slowly, and so now, a
