THE BUSINESS OF BOOKS epilogue
If you're a regular reader of this blog, you already know that I retired the BUSINESS OF BOOKS author interview series a few weeks ago. But some of you have asked me privately to share what I'm doing in the way of marketing for my debut novel, THE BELLY DANCER.I think that's only fair, don't you? The top 5 things I did to market THE BELLY DANCER
1. Have an author Web site.
It's a given

Today I'm feeling very fortunate...
Something I didn't mention in the last post about the book release party is the part that made it a party *and* benefit, and that's because I wanted to devote a special space to that important aspect of the event. And here it is.Very early in the planning stages, I read about the murder of a woman in Pakistan by the Taliban (which I blogged about here: http://scribblinggypsy.blogspot.com/2009/01/dancing-girl-killed-in-pakistan-by.html) for the simple reason that she was a dancer.
I couldn't beli

Photos from the THE BELLY DANCER Book Release Party & Benefit
Is there any other way to celebrate a book about belly dancing than with a night filled with belly dancing and belly dancers? I think not.We had dancers, lots and lots of dancers, as well as drummers, belly dance costume models and even pirates! (Oh yeah, and some of them were even extras in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies).
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Merry's Fashion with Passion boutique in Long Beach for allowing us to take over her store (and her sidewalk, and her alley, and the

Celebrating with a friend...
Yesterday friend and fellow author Gayle Carline celebrated the launch of her cozy mystery, FREEZER BURN, with a great party at a community center in Placentia, which is not only her home city, but the setting for her novel, too. She read a couple of short excerpts, answered reader questions, had fun contests, and signed books for the roomful of people. The line for her books was so long, I was afraid she might run out before I made my way to the front of it. Luckily, she didn't and I walked awa

What a great day...
I just returned from a quick trip to my local Borders bookstore, and I have to tell you -- I'm feeling pretty good :-)

That right there was enough to make my day.
But it gets even better.
I arrived a little early (I'm learning to build in lots of wiggl
