Spotlight and Excerpt: Night Moves by Kristen Strassel

Genre: NA Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Foreword Literary
Date of Publication: 3.26.14

Number of pages: 294
Book Description:
We bonded in darkness, over darkness.
Melanie Vaughn’s job ruined everything. Her social life, nonexistent. Her relationship with her boyfriend, a hostile roommate situation. She resolves to fix everything one snowy afternoon, but instead comes home to discover her boyfriend is already exploring other options. Blonder, bustier options. Rage drives Melanie to do the unthinkable.
When Soul Divider was on the top of the world, so was Ryder Maddox. When the band faded into obscurity, Ryder’s luck plummeted with it. In a last ditch effort to rekindle the band’s heyday, Soul Divider teams up with powerful vampire clan leader, Talis de Rancourt. In return for her services, the band pays the ultimate price for never ending fame.
Now on the run, Melanie meets Ryder in a middle of nowhere hotel. She never expected her teenage rock star crush to be as lost and as in need of a companion as she is. Their connection is all consuming, even before they find they share another kinship: murder.
The newly turned vampires in Soul Divider still have a lot to learn. The police and public begin to connect the girls that go missing or die in sync with the band’s tour schedule. Back at home, clues are also adding up against Melanie as well. Between constant media coverage and unrelenting attention from the authorities, Melanie and Ryder find themselves in uncharted territory.
Excerpt:“What the hell is she doing here?” Drake Bonham’s words alarmed me, waking me up better than any cup of coffee could at four in the morning. I tried to hide my shock and act as nonchalant as possible. Did I really want to explain what I was doing here? As much as I wanted a hole in the head. I let Ryder take the lead.“She’s coming with us.” Ryder didn’t look at Drake when he spoke, unaffected by the tone of his inquisition. His eyes lost in the shadow of the bill of his baseball cap, he continued playing with his phone. I stood nervously next to him as he perched on his suitcase. I wanted desperately to reach out to him for some sort of comfort. I didn’t, in fear that Drake would swat my hand like an old nun with a ruler.“No. Maddox, you know the rules. You double bag it and forget about the chicks when you leave town.” In Drake’s eyes, I was less important than luggage. I wondered about all the girls who followed the band around, hoping for a second of Drake’s attention would feel listening to him right now, talking about me like I was some cheap souvenir.Ryder sighed and shoved his phone in the pocket of his motorcycle jacket. “I’ve had enough of the rules. They’ve already cost me my kids and marriage. How much more do you expect me to give up for your band? She’s coming with us.”“That’s right. My band. As your boss, I’m telling you we don’t need to be transporting groupies all over the country.”“Don’t worry, she won’t cost you a cent. I’ll take care of her out of my per diem.”“She’s not coming.”“Either she comes with us, or I stay here with her.” The tension in the room was electric as Ryder and Drake glared at each other, almost willing each other into a full blown fist fight. The other members of the band hardly reacted, like this was a regular occurrence. Great. Was I willing to destroy any more lives to enter some sort of parallel witness protection plan universe? I was still recovering from the shock of learning that Drake regarded the other members of the band like bad children who couldn’t think for themselves. If it wasn’t for Ryder, Drake wouldn’t have ever written all of those songs, or had the success he had enjoyed. No wonder I always liked Ryder better. I always thought Drake was a pompous ass. What had Erin seen in him? Even a pretty face couldn’t excuse all that ugly.I put my hand on Ryder’s shoulder. “Listen, I don’t want to cause any trouble. I can meet you there instead.” It might have been a good idea anyway. Otherwise, my car would be left in the parking lot and I’d have no way to get home from wherever they left me. Like I could ever go home again.“No. It’s no trouble at all. I want you to come with me.” He looked up at me but didn’t smile.I could feel the steam rolling off of Drake as he crossed his arms in front of his chest from the corner of my eye. I didn’t dare make eye contact with him, lest he incinerate me with his glare. “It’s cool, I don’t want to cost you your job or anything.”Drake scoffed, but we both ignored him. “You won’t. If you’re going to hang around with me, baby, you need to get used to Drake’s outbursts.” Finally the corners of Ryder’s mouth turned upward. I nodded and smiled, sneaking a look at Drake. He rolled his eyes and shook his head.An awkward silence spread over the lobby as we waited to board the bus. I tried to distract myself by looking at my phone. Friends back home were wondering how Jamie and I were faring during the storm, with some even asking if we needed anything. A friend with electricity and heat offered her house if the cold was too much to handle. All the kindness overwhelmed me. I could probably still feign being a power outage victim; it bought me some time before I had to start answering their questions. How long would it take before someone started looking for us because we didn’t answer them? How long before Angela’s family started searching for her, if not already? I attempted to focus, hard, on how excited I should be to be going on tour with my favorite band. But all I could see was Angela’s two little girls. I focused my thoughts again. I’d never been on a tour bus before, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. We boarded a small kitchen area first, and rows of bunks eerily stacked like coffins, filled the middle. “This is home.” Ryder stopped at the top bunk off to the right side. He graciously took my bag and slung it up on the bed. “The lounge area is in back, and the bathroom is right here.” He pointed to a door at the entrance to the living area. “You know the rules of the bus, right?”“No. What rules?” What I thought would be a party bus was turning into a boarding school on wheels.Ryder chuckled and blushed. “I can’t believe I’m saying this to a lady. Serious business, if you know what I mean, goes in a bag and gets thrown out the window.”I burst out laughing. “Why on earth would you do that?”“You don’t want to be traveling on a rolling cow patty.”“Oh my God.” I pictured myself throwing a bag of crap out of the window onto the side of the road. “That’s so gross. Funny, but gross.”“That’s kind of what life is like on the road.” Adam, the drummer, piped in as he put his stuff in the bunk below us. “Funny, but gross.”“I wouldn’t expect much else from five guys living on a bus.” I smiled at him. He winked at me and headed back toward the lounge.Speaking of Drake, where was he? “There are only four bunks and there are five of you.” I did a head count while looking at Ryder. “Where does Drake sleep?”“He has his own bus.”“What? Are you kidding? He’s too good to travel with you guys?” And he was concerned about me costing too much money? Little did he know I could more than pay my own way. And the bastard had his own bus. “Something like that.” Ryder shrugged. Drake was obviously a sore subject. I needed to stop pouring salt on the wound. Time to switch gears. “So what happens on this bus?” “Oh you know, a little of this, a little of that.” Ryder smiled, leaning against the bunks, making his black T shirt ride up a little on his stomach, and exposing the line of hair that started at his belly button disappeared into his jeans. I forced myself to tear my eyes away.“Do the mice play while the cat is away?” I traced my finger along his jawbone.“They do.” He grabbed my hand, putting my finger into his mouth to suck on it. He had some crazy sharp teeth. I thought I had imagined it while we were in bed together, but now it felt like he practically had fangs. I’d never noticed that before. And believe me, I’d spent a lot of time looking at Ryder Maddox in my life. “Even if it’s against the rules?” I could barely manage the words as Ryder’s lips made their way down my arm, his eyes never leaving mine.“Especially if it’s against the rules.” He pulled me in close, nuzzling my neck.“Jesus, if you two are going to fuck, at least come to the common area so we can enjoy the show!” A thick Scottish accent jeered from the couch. Thomas, the bassist who replaced Chaz, had already cracked into a beer and had a game controller in his lap. “I’d rather watch you, lovie, than fight these bloody dragons for the thousandth time.”“She’s not that kind of girl, Tommy.” Ryder pulled away, looking annoyed.“They’re all that kind of girl, mate.” Ryder rolled his eyes and smiled at me, shaking his head. “That’s why your credit card is maxed out on porn. You need to treat a girl like a lady to get them to stick around.” He turned back at me and pulled my face towards his. “I’m ready for a private viewing.”

Aliens: Guest blog and Giveaway with Annie Nicholas

Aliens
Nothing grabs my imagination more than aliens.
Anything goes!
The person who influenced my opinion of aliens the most is Larry Niven, science fiction author. His were the first sci-fi stories I read growing up. He took the environment that the aliens evolved and let that effect their shape and culture. So say the gravity of their planet is stronger than ours then the alien would be stockier, thicker of muscle and much stronger.
CJ Cherryh does the same thing. She can immerse you in an alien culture and you don’t feel lost. I love this.
This is what I strive to achieve. I believe in realistic science fiction where the future can be depicted as being believable and where the technology doesn’t seem so advanced that it’s almost magical. I don’t think the aliens we’ll meet will have two legs and two arms or to even breath oxygen. I can’t explore my whole universe in one book though so we’ll take a journey through it in novellas.
No Refuge introduces the main oxygen breathing species. It explores some of the technologies I see as possible and most importantly, I wanted to focus on the strength of the human spirit.

Book Description:
Hunted to near extinction by an alien race called the Ko, my people have run from Earth and drifted so far among the stars we can’t remember the way back. We live everywhere, but call nowhere home. The Ko want us erased from existence and memory. They don’t even want our DNA in the space dust. Humans disguise themselves as other alien species and hide in plain sight. It’s the only way we can survive.
I believe in the myth of Earth. I’ve even discovered a bona fide book written in the dead language of my people. My man, Brody, dreams of a secret human colony. He’s searched for years, hunting any rumor we’ve run across, and finally he’s made contact. Usually, he’s the one grounding me to station and keeping my head out of the atmosphere. Time for me to return the favor…that is, if I can ditch the Ko who’ve discovered me, thanks to my incessant artifact-hunting. If we don’t make our rendezvous, and the Ko don’t kill me, Brody just might…

Guest blog with Matthew Sheehan

Although it's not marketed as such, Helmut Saves the World was conceived as an alternate history of our earth – with the turning point happening in prehistory. The book started out as an idea to pit magic against technology; with liberal use of the Atlantean myth, as told by Plato in his dialogues Timaues and Critias.
I saw no reason why the great flood couldn't have been the reason for the destruction of Atlantis (admittedly I'm not the first to think of this), and I set out to find a timeline where it would fit, and a historical ancient civilization to play the part of Atlantis. I had no intention of anything biblical outside of the flood itself, but some of the biblical and extra-biblical stories I came across were too good to ignore.
It's crazy how many civilizations have a story of a great flood. The one everyone knows about, Noah, is actually based on an earlier story in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Those were myths about an actual king of Mesopotamia circa 2700 BC. And there was an asteroid that hit the earth about that time which would likely have created a tsunami capable of creating a great flood. The Holocene Impact Working Group pointed to the Burkle crater off the coast of Madagascar as proof of this.
A lot of historical turnover happened around that time as well. The cultures in China, Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Mediterranean all went through major changes around this time. As far as I was concerned, it may as well have been due to the flood.
The idea of nephilim, or giants as it came to be translated, comes straight from the book of Genesis. They were the byproduct of angels and human women, and were a wicked and vile lot. The reason for the great flood was to wipe them all out. Noah, whose bloodline was pure, was then supposed to repopulate the earth. The book of Enoch, which didn't quite make the cut for most versions of the bible, goes on to name the Angels in question, and to tell more of their story. Armed with this information, which was better than anything I could have thought up, I decided to build my world around these myths.
I wanted a reason why magic existed in our past, but not now, and I thought the idea of Angelic blood carrying superhuman abilities worked just fine.
So that's the backstory of Helmut Saves the World. The great flood never happened, and the civilizations that were wiped out around 2700BC, instead followed a course of development similar to ours. Many of these explanations didn't make it through the editing process, so I hope this helps fill in a few gaps.

Book Description:
My name is Helmut Haase and I'm one half of the Fog City Detective Agency--specifically, the half that pays all the bills. My partner, Shamus O'Sheehan, mostly drinks beer and naps. I keep him around because he's my friend, but also because he's a Druid. I'm just a detective, and there are plenty of those in Wudong, the Confederacy of Hesperia. There's not another Druid for miles.
We had it pretty good until the day we met Alek Pallas. He hired us to track down a thieving employee, and even though something was off, his big fat check was too much to pass up. But the man we found wasn't what we were led to believe, and neither was Alek.
I'm talking shape-shifters, fallen angels and a conspiracy involving the vicious Cretan Empire. At least we didn't die. Hope that doesn't ruin the story. Why am I telling you all this? Someday I'd like some credit for saving the world. Maybe not the entire world, and maybe not alone, but I still deserve a medal. And perhaps a cash prize.

Moody and sarcastic at the best of times, the author should not be conversed with prior to his morning cup of coffee. Giveaway and Guest blog: Music and The Shade by Matthew Tallman

Hello, my name is Matthew Tallman and I am the author of The Shade. While writing The Shade I always had a routine—a certain place to sit, a particular amount of light, and snacks, just in case I got hungry. However, above all those things listed above, music was the most important. Without music, I don't know how I could have ever concentrated long enough to write anything. Music dulls my senses, making me less likely to become distracted with things going on around me. So in the spirit of the curiosity, I've listed below some of the bands/artists, the songs I listened to and the albums those songs came from—just in case you're interested in supporting the band.
Band/Artist Song Album 10 Years All Your Lies Division The Used The Bird and The Worm Lies for the Liars Trocadero Keep Moving Ghosts That Linger Thrice Atlantic Vheissu Thrice In Exile Beggars Snow Patrol & Martha Wainwright Set Fire to the Third Bar Eyes Open The Myriad Forget What You Came For With Arrows, With Poise Edison Glass See Me Through Time is Fiction City and Colour Boiled Frogs Live at the Verge Chevelle Mexican Sun Sci-Fi Crimes Alexisonfire Burial Death Letter—EP Alkaline Trio I Found Away Agony & Irony Civil Twilight Letters from the Sky Civil Twilight The Classic Crime Warrior Poet Albatross Dark New Day Brother Twelve Year Silence Metric Help I'm Alive Fantasies
I would have to say my favorite band is Thrice, everything from the old to the new is phenomenal. It doesn't matter what mood you're in, Thrice will always have a song to fit, that's why I found them so versatile when I was writing. I do listen to more instrumental stuff when I write but for the sake of briefness I didn't want to list everything on my playlist. You'll find that the songs listed are a good representation of the book and fit in well with its themes. If you've read the book or read pieces of it, you should see similarities in mood and context.
Well, I hope this small post has given you a slight insight to what I listen to when I write. Post comments about what you listen to when you write, or just in general.

I am currently a part time writer and full time government employee. Reading and writing books is one of my favorite hobbies as I enjoy every part of the story telling process. I have been working on three full-length novels for the last three years. I grew up all around the world because my father was in the United States Air Force, the past ten years I have lived just outside of Dayton, Ohio, which is where I now reside with my wife and stepson.

Book Description:
Narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Magistrate, Mira travels west, toward the coast. With three weakened human fugitives accompanying her, she searches for the mythical land of Sanctuary.
After encountering a pack of wolf shifters, headed by the charismatic—and brazen—Stryker, Mira learns that Sanctuary is real after all. Caldera Grove: home of the Otherkin. Hidden in the mouth of a dormant volcano, it has protected its residents from humans since the early days following the great cataclysm. For Mira— a vampire— Caldera Grove is a land of peace; an escape from the relentless persecution of the humans who once enslaved her, and an end to the daily struggle and bloodshed of being a gladiator.
For the humans accompanying her, Caldera Grove means death. Humans, greedy and untrustworthy creatures, are destroyed before they can penetrate its borders.
To plead her case for entry into Caldera, Mira must abandon her companions, albeit temporarily, and follow Stryker into the heart of the city. What she finds within Caldera Grove presents her with an unenviable decision between her own desires for freedom and peace, or honor and the human companions who risked it all for her.

Endowed with special powers and abilities, beyond those of mortal women, I can get the munchkin off to gymnastics, cheerleading, Girl Scouts, and swim lessons. I can put hot food on the table for dinner while assisting with homework, baths, and bedtime… And, I still find time to keep the hubby happy (nudge nudge wink wink). I can do all of this and still have time to write my novels.
Sorry… I can’t even write that with a straight face.
Lies all lies.
Here’s the reality. I’m a sleep-deprived, overworked, mom who just doesn’t know the meaning of the word balance. I try so hard to do it all, (be super mom, wife, & author) and at the end of the day I fall face forward into the couch.
Yes, you read that right, I tend to sleep on the couch. It’s a point of frustration for my hubby and a thing of comedy for my daughter. Imagine waking up to your little child yelling, “Mom slept on the couch again!!!”
Because being supermom (or trying to) means a lot of time devoted to family, writing is often done when said family is peacefully snoozing away. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen asleep with my laptop, on the couch. It just happens. Then, bright and early at 7am either my hubby (on his way to work) or my daughter (getting ready for school) wakes me up.
Writing is my passion. It’s a part of me. More than just a hobby, it’s a compulsion. I have to do it. If I don’t do at least one writing related thing each day I get cranky.
Hopefully, my passion can be your entertainment!

Interview with Nikki Rae Author of the New Adult/Young Adult Vampire Books- The Sunshine Series
Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
Hi, readers! My name is Nikki Rae and I’m a student, writer, editor, and part time animal seller. I started writing in the paranormal romance genre because I was always drawn to the paranormal and I really love creating realistic relationships. Romance is just one type of relationship and it was right for my story at the time.
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?
I love paranormal because it’s scary. When I was little, I was terrified of vampires. Absolutely terrified. I think choosing to write about them was a way of dealing with that childhood fear, but I also grew to love vampires as I got older. I love how they’re constantly changing and evolving—there are no definite rules.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Sun Damage is the final book in The Sunshine Series. This is where every relationship is tested, all the secrets are revealed, and all of the monsters come out to play. In my opinion, this is the most emotional of the three books, judging by how emotional I got while writing it lol.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I don’t really have a formula. Sometimes I do make very loose sketches, but mostly, I write the story and the more I write, the more I learn about the characters and how they will react in a certain situation.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
Since the main character Sophie is so closed off in the first book, I really like it when I see her open up. Any of those scenes can easily be considered my favorite. Here’s a little snippet from the first book:
“It’s not your fault, you were only a child,” he whispers.
I open my eyes again and glare at him. I don’t want to do this.
“You’re right,” I choke out anyway. “But I’m not anymore. You’d think I’d grow up and face the fact that my mother doesn’t care…” I trail off. I put my head in my hands again. “I really thought she loved me,” I whisper.
Why am I telling him this?
Then I feel his arms around my back and my face against his chest. I try to push him away, but it’s no use. “Stop it,” I say.
He loosens his grip but I still can’t pull away. “Why?” he asks.
I push him again, my heart beating so loud I can feel it pulse in my swollen nose.
“Because I don’t need a hug right now.” I’m getting more agrrivated that I can’t break free.
He holds on a little tighter, but surprisingly, my heartbeat slows and I don’t feel like I have to puke.
“It’s just a hug,” Myles says into my ear. “I’m not going to hurt you.” After a minute he says, “You’re wrong. I think this is exactly what you need.”
My arms reach up. They stiffen at my sides a few times, but I give up and wrap my arms around his back. I grab onto the fabric of his sweatshirt so I don’t let go. The fabric is soft under my palms. If anyone is a match for putting up with my running away, it’s him.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
I don’t usually. I almost never run out of ideas as to what to write about, only how to get to a certain plot point or how to convey a certain image, etc. If that happens and I’ve tried writing through it and it doesn’t help, I usually take a little break. I go for a walk, read a new book, write something else, or watch a movie. Sometimes, all I need is to give my brain a little break and I’m fine. : )
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
Not really. Well, okay. I need a TON of tea when I write. Like, gallons. I can easily put away 20 cups in one day and not even know it.
Do you write in different genres?
I do. Right now I’m writing a thriller/horror story, which is still paranormal, but a little less romance. I’m also working on a science fiction story, and slowly working my way through a book of short stories and a poetry collection.
Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?
Sometimes. I usually figure out my own set of “rules” pretty easily when it comes to the paranormal, but with things like poetry and shorter pieces, I find myself second-guessing and sending out rough drafts for feedback more. It’s new, which makes it scary. But it’s also really, really exciting because for me, writing isn’t fun unless I’m challenging myself.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
I really like animals, so anything having to do with playing, petting, or learning about them is always a plus. I also like to draw/paint (not very well, but still), read (of course), and I like workshopping, which is kind of like writing, only I read other peoples’ stuff as well and give them feedback.
What was the last amazing book you read?
Because of school, my free-reading time is limited. The last book I remember reading for fun was “A Monster Calls” by Patrick Ness. It’s a beautiful story with creepy yet beautiful illustrations. It’s a great book for anyone who has ever had to experience loss and I’ve been recommending it like crazy.
What can readers expect next from you?
I’m releasing a three-part novella about a blood donor (for vampires), then there’s going to be a Sunshine Series stand alone spinoff, which is more horror/suspense based than my other stuff.
Where can readers find you on the web?
Anywhere and everywhere!

Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Sure!
I remember thinking that swimming was easy. I dove into the cool water, clear and clean. I was weightless, floating. I could move if I wanted to, but mostly, I just drifted on the surface, hiding underneath the trees, unafraid of being burned by the sun.
This is different.
Instead of floating, I’m being dragged under heavy, black waves. Instinct tells me to fight, to keep my head above water, but I’m tired. So tired. I find myself wanting to slip into the warm darkness and not come back up.
It doesn’t hurt here.
I’m not afraid here.
There’s no confusion. No questions. No choices. I can just sink.
But all oceans have a shore, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t stay under forever. I’m slammed back into my body. Back into the pain. The fear.
“How is she?” Jade’s voice, soft and broken, comes to me.Hands on me. Covering me. Holding me.
“She’s okay.” Myles’ voice is somehow different. Something I not only hear, but feel in every bone, muscle, and scar. “She might come in and out for a while,” he says. “Depending on how much she fights it.”I hear Jade let out a breath.
Myles is stroking my hair, whispering things to me that get caught up in the waves. My hearing is gone again. My body is light. For a second, I’m floating, then slipping back under. Out of my body, out of my mind.Minutes, days. It’s all the same, and it’s strange that I don’t worry about going back, but I can’t find it in me to care.
The last few conscious minutes I had flood my thoughts.
Myles pressed his mouth to my collar bone. The same place he’d bitten me before.
First, the pain was worse. Worse than the first time, worse than the cramping in my body. I could feel Michael’s blood mixed in mine. It clawed at my veins and stuck to my chest, trying to hold on me as long as it could, going against the current flowing out of me and into Myles.
Then, abruptly, the pain stopped.
Everything became dark. I tried opening my eyes, but when I did, all I saw was the plain, white ceiling above us for one fleeting second before it got swallowed up by the darkness as well.
I didn’t want to go. Not then. He was still biting me, draining everything out, and I leaving with it. I felt my body bucking against his, fighting with whatever strength was left. His hands were clasped around mine, pushing my arms into the mattress at my sides. It didn’t hurt anymore, but the fear was worse than anything. He was pushing me off of a cliff, and I didn’t know what was below.
“Stop,” I whispered.
He didn’t move away from me to speak: I told you I wouldn’t.
I remember crying then, when my muscles relaxed without me wanting them to. When all of the strength in me was fading. Myles let go of my hands. He repositioned himself so his arms were under me, pressing our bodies closer together as his fangs sank deeper into my skin. I whimpered because I was too tired to scream.
Then his hands were wiping the tears from my face as new ones formed over and over.I’m sorry. The words bounced around in my mind.
I could have blacked out, but he wouldn’t let me. Every time I felt myself leaving, Myles would shift. He would jolt me out of it by telling me something like stay, or not yet. I’ve never wanted to be so unattached to my body than in that moment. Never.
I’m sure it only lasted a few minutes, but it was an eternity of lifetimes for me.
I blinked and Myles was pulling away, leaving warmness and a faint throb where his mouth was connecting us. Then his arm was against my lips. The crook of his elbow was wet, cold at first, and then warm. I knew somewhere what it was, what I was supposed to do. Myles held my head with his free hand, but I pulled away regardless.
The grip he had on my skull tightened slightly. Enough to make me open my eyes. I saw him, but everything was blurred.
“Do you want to die?” he asked. There was nothing in his voice that scared me. It was only a question, the simple fact that if I drank what he was offering, I would live forever, if not, I’d fade into nothing.
Sunshinerelease date: January 28, 2013
18 year old Sophie Jean is pretty good at acting normal. Sure, she’s not exactly happy, but happiness is nothing compared to being like everyone else. She can pretend she’s not allergic to the sun.
She can hide what her ex-boyfriend did to her. She can cover up the scars she’s made for herself. Ignore anything. Forget anything. Then Myles enters her life, and he has more than a few secrets of his own. When accident after accident keeps happening to Sophie, she can’t help noticing that he’s everywhere.
That he knows too much. That she’s remembering too much.
It’s one thing covering up her own dark past, but does she really need to worry about people finding out just how much Myles likes her? Or that
despite how much she doesn't want to repeat past mistakes, she kind of likes him back? Not to mention the fact that she now has to conceal that Myles drinks blood-that he says he’s about four hundred years old. She almost forgot about that part. But Sophie has no plans to ruin the normal life she has created for herself. She can deal with this little glitch, no problem. Even if word has gotten around to the wrong vampire about Sophie and Myles, even if she’s putting the few people she loves at risk. Suddenly, those who were monsters before are just people, and the monsters? They’re real. Now being a normal human being is the least of her problems. Now she has to stay alive.
Sun Poisonedrelease date: June 28, 2013Sophie’s life has changed. She’s moved to New York, she’s playing music for new people, and she’s making new friends. Then there’s Myles, and the fact that he is now her boyfriend—and everyone knows it.
She’s not exactly normal, living in a half-human, half-vampire world, but she’s finally, truly happy. However, some parts of Sophie and Myles’ old lives still hide in the dark, waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
Sophie’s having nightmares again, but they aren't about her; Myles is hiding something as well, something Sophie isn’t sure she wants to know.
And one lie will change everything.
No matter how hard she tries to cover up the marks her monsters have left behind, they never truly go away, and Myles’ monsters are no different.
Once again, Sophie’s caught between life and death, but this time, only she can save herself.
Sun Damage release date: March 28, 2014Life wasn't what Sophie was expecting, so why should death be any different?
She’s come back from swimming between the two, and every problem she left is still there. And then some.
There’s the human world, where she has a brother on the verge of ruins, band mates all set to go on tour, and people she thought she wouldn't be seeing for a long time showing up.
Then there’s her new world, where she’s seeing and hearing things that should not be heard or seen. Where Myles knows more about her than she could have ever guessed. She still doesn't know exactly why Michael is tormenting her, but somehow, everything is connected.
The monsters are closing in on all sides and the question is, will Sophie be able to defeat them before it all ends?

Vampires and The United States President? Excerpt and Giveaway with Regina Morris

Eternal Service
Raymond smiled at her. It was a beautiful smile, not fake or forced. You can always tell when it’s real. His black colored eyes held the smile, not just his luscious, full lips. Alex noticed his hair was a bit damp, probably due to a last minute shower on his way over. His hair was parted tonight, and a curl of bangs hung lopsided onto his forehead. It gave him a Superman appearance. She always did like Superman.
Alex knew her pulse sped up as she took in the visual strip tease in her mind. She thought back to their earlier conversation. Humans and vampires could have sex together. Sex. She swallowed hard. She hadn’t thought of having sex with a man in a long time. Her heart sped up even faster. She wondered if he could hear it. If he did, he didn’t show it. He just sat sipping his wine, looking sexy as hell.
Her glass was in her hands, and she took a gulp of wine hoping to squelch the heat she was feeling. Instead it fueled the flame. Would sex with a vampire be different than with a human? If it were, she was betting it would be better. The sexual relationships she had in the past, if she could remember that far back, were moderately satisfying. Definitely not romance novel, page turning, steamy … but satisfying.
Blinking a few times, she realized she was staring at his crotch. Could she be more obvious? She knew in her heart that she was going to take this promotion. She couldn’t start a romance with a team member, it wasn’t professional. She wasn’t that type of woman. Plus, there was no guarantee that he was interested in her that way. He had treated her with nothing but respect.
“Alex?” Raymond asked.
Alex looked up, making eye contact. “What?”
“Are you okay? You’ve been quiet for several minutes.”
Vampires exist among us. They can be our neighbor, best friend, our child’s teacher … They alter their aged appearance based upon the amount of blood they consume. They move to a new area, drink a lot of blood, and appear young. Slowly they limit their intake of blood and age, right in front of our unsuspecting eyes. After decades, they fake their death, move, and do it over and over again.
Most live quiet lives in an effort to blend in. Some however want power and control.
The COLONY is an elite group of vampires sworn to protect the President of the United States from these rogue vampires.
