Claudy Conn

However, my daughter lectured me and said that I should write about myself like I write my stories—so here goes…
While I have a fanciful imagination, I am a Capricorn—‘sure and steady’, and the obvious conflict leaves me jumbled. I have a computer, yes (invaluable), but I still jot down ideas on a scrap piece of paper, or a napkin in a restaurant. My imagination follows me wherever we go and sees so much more than meets the eye, and very often my husband will ask, ‘where are you now, baby?’
My dad was the one who clicked into my brain early on, and opened my mind to a world where a girl/woman could be so much more than ‘pretty in pink’. He told me to soar, and soaring for me, was writing.
We love horses and riding and when we migrated from New York to North Carolina we brought our barn with us—and yes, I’d rather muck out a stall than clean a house! My Irish, blue-eyed husband had to have a wolf and so we brought in our little hybrid wolf pup to our home. She is ¾ wolf/ ¼ German shepherd named Cherokee. Her 3 yr. old son (Rocky) is huge and eats everything and anything he can find and weighs more than 170 pounds!
Ireland and Scotland gave us the Fae and the Druids. In Ireland you can still visit the ‘Faery Mounds’. Think of the possibilities. I have and I’d love for you to join me as I explore them. So then, come with me and let’s see where we can go…

I am a sarcastic, southern woman that would rather spend all day laughing than a minute crying. I have 2 of the most amazing daughters ever created, a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading. I decided to write the stories running through my brain and am having an absolute blast!! I read my first book, Dr Suess' Cat in The Hat, by myself at 4 and have been hooked ever since.
I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down. I know for a fact that all heroes inf all the books I have ever read or will ever write pale in comparison to my hero, my dad! I am a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex with a healthy dose of romance.
I am still working on my story but can guarantee you that it will contain as love and laughter as I can cram into it!!!!! Dare to Dream! Have the Strength to Try EVERYTHING! Never Look Back!

I like gravy.
This has nothing to do with the rest of my bio, but I thought you ought to know.
About the writing thing...
I wrote my first play when I was six and made my brothers perform it for my parents. I charged gum wrappers for admission (a steal, in my opinion, considering I had handed out the gum wrappers ahead of time). While I seriously doubt you'll be seeing any of my formative work on Broadway anytime soon, I can credit these early experiments with the first of many important lessons I learned about writing: no matter how brilliant your manuscript is, some kid can go streaking butt-ass nekkid across the living room, and totally undermine your vision.
Everyone watches the naked kid because running across the living room with your cheeks flapping in the breeze is friggin' hilarious.
Cue the lightbulb moment. People like funny stuff!
I never quite gave up on the writing thing, even as I tried my hand at being a dusty academic turned Executive Assistant (they paid me to nag! How cool is that?), but in those quiet moments when expense reports had been filed and to-do items checked off, the funny people in my head kept talking to me.
Yes, I know they have medication for that. It's called vodka.
Since they discourage drinking at work, I started writing instead. What came out was an amalgamation (vocabulary!) of all the things I love: funny stuff, art, psychology, food, people, and paranormal critters!
Et voila! The Case Files of Dr. Matilda Schmidt, Paranormal Psychologist were born.
When I'm not sitting in my office watching cat videos and pretending to write, I like cooking, knitting (badly), and reading anything that makes me laugh (like my bank statements).
I live in Colorado with my brilliant husband and three surly cats.

But the real test is how to follow her destiny as she faces some of the hardest decisions of her life.
Using a modern theme, the author tells an old fashioned love story that you won’t want to put down, even when you’ve finished the last page.
Available at Amazon Brag MedallionExcerpt:
Sometimes, when something bad happens, time seems to slow to a crawl.Like that time I was running to visit my friend who lived down the street. I was only about ten at the time, but it seemed like it was yesterday. I remember exactly how it felt as I ran down that street toward her house. And how, when I was only part way there, I stepped on an acorn and my foot rolled out from under me. As I fell, the pavement got closer and closer to my face—in horrible slow-motion. I hit the ground with my hands stretched out in front of me, scraping the skin off both palms. They barely bled but man they hurt like crazy.Yes, I could replay that memory like a slow-motion movie in my head even now—years later. But this … well, this wasn’t like that. What happened next was like a series of still photos. Tom flew out of the bedroom in a blur, but stopped just long enough for the image of his face to be burnt into my mind. His eyes were no longer soft brown, but were instead a glowing red, and his normally tanned complexion was now pallid grey. But what really stood out was the blood that ran down from the corner of his mouth. Then I heard Sam’s voice—loud and harsh. ‘Go!’Tom was gone and I heard the door slam.I closed my eyes for no more than a long blink—it couldn’t have been more than a second—but when I opened them, Sam was in the bedroom, bending over Claire. Was he doing something to her neck? She was so still.I ran to the doorway but stopped short of going in. I couldn’t draw a breath to scream or talk. I just stood there, frozen.

Five Fun Facts About B’s Book Labyrinth with Sharon Lynn Fisher

B’s Book Labyrinth is the setting for SilkWords’ very first shared world. The publisher and I had been noodling on the idea of creating worlds where lots of authors could contribute stories, and B’s Book Labyrinth came to me in a flash. Sweet Trouble is the first story set in this world, and as such, it is our readers’ first visit to this setting.
B’s is a bookstore and bistro owned by Sweet Trouble’s heroine, Bronte. Here are five fun facts about the setting!
1. The bookstore was inspired by Powell’s City of Books in Portland, one of the last large indie bookstores. That store is often described as labyrinthine — it has multiple levels and takes up a whole city block. (I was lucky enough to get a tour of the store a couple years ago, because I plan to include it in a new novel.) Unlike the more modern Powell’s, B’s is housed in an old mansion. From the introduction to the world:
Yep, I manage the world’s last bookstore. Or at least the last one in Seattle. Well, maybe not the last, but certainly the biggest. In the heart of the Fremont neighborhood, which is accepted by all Seattleites (or at least the ones living in Fremont) as the Center of the Universe, is a funky old turn-of-the-century mansion, just south of the world’s only real troll-under-a-bridge. Its architect was insane, or possibly a drunk. Six floors, piled atop each other in higgledy-piggledy fashion (much like a stack of books someone has tripped over and righted without bothering to straighten), connected by a staircase winding like a corkscrew through its heart.
2. The store has a resident poltergeist the staff calls Annabelle. She relocates things, and has a small part in Sweet Trouble — she tries to communicate with the heroine by pulling out book spines. Eventually there will be a story about Annabelle! A little more about her from Bronte’s point of view:
Annabelle — or so we called her, after the wife of the building’s architect — preferred the fourth floor (romance), but had been credited with a box of missing books in children’s, a kitchen mixer that had found its way to the second-floor ladies' room, and the inexplicable, after-hours activity of our decrepit elevator (refurbished original-issue).
3. Bronte promotes the store as a first-date destination, and in fact she meets rock band frontman Brody on the store’s opening day. Here is her commentary about that from the world’s introduction:
And people come for love — to find it or stoke it — because as I said, we’ve got a kind of magic going at B’s. Interesting things get started here. Sometimes they play out right in the store, in dark little book nooks on the upper floors (where you’ll find romance, gothics, and erotica). And I’ll tell you a juicy rumor that made its way into The Stranger, the local alternative paper: they say we’ve got an underground passage, and a sister establishment where customers can live out their favorite storybook fantasies.
4. As I mentioned above, the first story in the B’s Book Labyrinth world is Sweet Trouble. The heroine goes to see the hero’s band play at a real venue called the Tractor Tavern, in Fremont’s sister neighborhood, Ballard. The title of the story, and the style of music played by the hero, was inspired by an album called Heavy Love, by Duke Garwood. Here’s the song that inspired the title: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0MqEtqSoH4.
5. B’s has its own cupcake! Created by the bistro’s chef. The “Heart of Darkness” is vanilla cake with grenadine buttercream and a truffle-sized ball of soft chocolate at the center. (We’re looking for someone to help us craft a real recipe for it!)

When Hailey meets local musician, Liam Hennessey, a confusing relationship begins, which Hailey thinks is the result of differing cultures, for Liam is married to the music, and so unbalanced at the prospect of love, he won't come closer nor completely go away.
And so begins the dance of attraction that Hailey struggles to decipher. Thankfully, a handful of vibrant local friends come to her aid, and Hailey learns to love a land and its people, both with more charm than she ever imagined.

Excerpt:
There’s an energy that hangs between strangers even in a crowd. Call it interest, or attraction, or the knowledge of things to come. It is awareness, and I was aware to the exclusion of all activity around me that Liam Hennessey was watching me. He was sitting at the corner of the bar by himself, and because I could feel his gaze upon me like an electrical current, I froze. I did not move an inch because I sensed I didn’t have to, that something would come about with little prompting from me. I don’t know how I knew this, but I was right, it came about within the hour. It began as a series of introductions to people near Liam, and drew itself closer until Liam was introduced to me.Right before Leigh left, claiming she had to get up early the next day to drive to Cork, Kieran pointed out that the Irish traditional musicians playing in the corner were the father and older brother of the lad sitting at the end of the bar. “That’s Liam Hennessey at the bar there,” Kieran gestured to my right. “He’s the best box player in Connemara – even in the whole of Ireland, many say. His family is long in Connemara; they’re all players, so. That’s Sean Liam, his da, and his brother Anthony there on the guitar.” Kieran seemed proud to know the facts. He next took my arm and led me straight to Liam.“I’ve the pleasure of knowing this American here, her name is Hailey,” Kieran announced to Liam.I had an uneasy feeling. It’s one thing to suspect you’ll cross paths with someone again, and quite another to be fully prepared when it actually happens. For some unknown reason, I kept thinking it was strange to see Liam this far out in the country from Galway, but then again, what did I know? I didn’t know anything about him.Liam looked at me with large dark eyes and smiled brightly. He was different than I had imagined: he was friendlier, more candid. I assumed because he looked so dark and mysterious, there would be a personality to match. I assumed he would be reserved, aloof, perhaps arrogant in an artistic sort of way. I was paying close attention, and there was none of that about Liam. In seconds, I realized he was a nice guy. I moved a step to my right as an older man approached the bar.“Would ye give us a hand there,” the man said to Liam, and for the next few minutes, Liam handed pints over his head to a group of men too far from the bar’s edge to grab the glasses themselves. Just then, Kieran said something that set off a chain of events and put the rest of the night in motion.“Liam, will you watch Hailey for me, I’m off to join the sessiun.” With that, Kieran produced a harmonica from his shirt pocket and walked off to join the musicians in the corner.I stood at the bar and waited for the next thing to happen. The world seemed to operate in slow motion. All the noise in the room subsided, and the only thing I knew was I was looking directly at Liam Hennessey. I searched his face for imperfections. I had never before seen such beauty in the face of a man. I hoped my thoughts didn’t show on my face. He was so good looking, I wondered why other people in the room weren’t staring at him, then I realized most of Hughes’ patrons knew him and were probably used to the way he looked. I was reticent, unsure of how to speak to Liam, unfamiliar with how provincial he may or may not have been. Words tend to get in the way in moments like this, but they lay in wait just the same.“You’re an American, yah?” he asked in that way the Irish have of answering their own question. “I’ve been to America,” he said.“Where in America?” I encouraged.“Boston, New York, Chicago. My cousins live in Chicago. I even went all the way to Niagara Falls.”“Believe it or not, I’ve never been to Niagara Falls. What’s it like?” “Not much, mind you, it’s a nice enough place, but ten minutes after I saw the falls, I was asking where I could get a nice cup of tea.”“I imagine it would take a lot to be impressed after living here,” I said.“I’d never want to live anywhere else. Everything you could ever want is here in Connemara.”And it is, I thought. Connemara has a sense of peace I’ve never felt before.“Are you long in Ireland?” he asked.“I live here,” I said. “I live in Inverin.”“Ah, so you’re just up the road. Me too.”At 27-years-old, Liam lived with his parents in the house in which he grew up.He was a world-class Irish traditional musician that traveled often to places like Germany, Austria and New Zealand. He was in demand as a player in touring bands because he was a master at playing the button accordion. As such, he was more than a musician: he was the bearer of a torch that represented the history of an old culture. He brought the language of Irish music to regions that otherwise would have never been enlightened.Being an Irish traditional musician is a feat not easily arrived at. Rather, it is a feat painstakingly achieved. Most of the tunes in a traditional player’s repertoire have been memorized through listening and repeated execution, as opposed to memorization by reading musical scores. Traditional music has been passed down through generational lines, and with Liam’s family, there had been no interruption. His father was a player, and the world in which Liam grew up was one of constant exposure to traditional music as if it were a language. I came to realize much later that Liam’s first language was music, his second language was Irish, and his third was English.“So, you must be another American looking for their roots, then,” Liam stated. If that was a question, then it’s a fair one, I thought.“Actually, I’m working at the Galway Music Center,” I said, then I followed with my poetry aspirations, hoping to impress upon him I was not just passing through.

Interview: Empathy by Carolyn Wren

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I wrote my first book in 2009 with no background in writing and no clue what I was doing.
That story was a romantic suspense novella called Diplomat’s Daughter and it went on to win the 2012 RWA novella of the year. I figured I must be doing something right, so I just kept on going.
What inspired you to write this book?
I enjoy expanding my writing horizons. Empathy is my first full length novel featuring multiple characters and intercepting plotlines. After writing seven contemporary romantic suspense novels, I decided to give myself a bit of a challenge.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Empathy is the first book in a Murder Mystery Urban Fantasy called Emotional Chains. It features three families who have the ability to feel emotions as a physical sense.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
That’s a very good question. Mainly I try to visualize a character and imagine someone calling their name. In this book we have Oliver Lord who is very quiet and introspective. He needed a solid almost old fashioned name, nothing too flashy. Zoe Daniels is an artist, a sculptor, so her name needed to be slightly more unusual, something that hint at as artistic temperament.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
Oliver holds all of his thoughts and feelings inside, but deep down he’s very passionate. Introducing his character traits to the reader at the same time the heroine found them out was quite a challenge.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
Meredith Baron was wonderful to write. I wanted someone who embraced her empathic abilities and had no qualms or guilt about using them. Writing a character who is so free, so strong willed and so stubborn was great fun, especially when I gave her an equally stubborn hero to butt heads with.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
My characters take over my fingers. I have no idea what they’re going to do or say until the words appear on the page. Sometimes I think they are in charge and I’m just the interpreter.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
The empaths can inhabit the dream world so I wanted to do a love scene with a difference.
The result is very interesting.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
There’s a scene in my Romantic Series, The Protectors where a diminutive female covert operative is trying to free a hostage who was chained in a room. She had to climb up his body to reach the chains above his head. I made my husband kneel on the floor to make sure my written actions were accurate. Thank goodness no one saw us.
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
There will be some recap in Perception, the sequel to Empathy, so as not to alienate new readers, but the books will have more impact if read as a series.
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
As much as I would love to be a striking, tall redhead with empathic abilities like Meredith Baron, I’m afraid all my characters are pure fiction. I do relate to Zoe Daniels who is very tactile and needs to offer comfort to her friends with hugs…I’m a hugger too.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
Sometimes I wish I did suffer from writers block. My inner muse is an insomniac who thinks 3am is the ideal time to create that perfect chapter. The only time I got brain fade was in the middle of last summer. Western Australia has scorching summers and my air conditioner needed fixing. It was tricky trying to be creative when it was 100 degrees outside and about 90 degrees in my office.
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
Now I want to think up something really exotic or unusual, but my sole writing quirk consists of not listening to music when I write. I tend to sing along which is bad for my productivity.
Do you write in different genres?
My debut published series was Contemporary Romantic Fiction, which is something I’ve always enjoyed reading. But it wasn’t long before my love of everything Paranormal started to take over my writing. I even ventured into the fun world of erotica with a holiday story about a plucky heroine and two regency ghosts living in a quaint English cottage.
Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?
Not at all. I don’t even think about a specific genre when I start a story. It’s only when I’ve finished that I have to sit back and wonder how to label it.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
When I finished my very first story I remember thinking, wow, did I just do that? When I won my first writing trophy I wondered if maybe this wasn’t some sort of surreal dream. But, when I held my first publishing contract in my hand, that’s when I began to think of myself as an actual writer.
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Eating chocolate for breakfast. Binge watching dvds of Star Trek and Buffy. Standing in the rain, even when people look at me like I’m crazy. And buying shoes. I have a real weakness for shoes.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
I love field archery. It’s like a more interesting version of golf. A long walk followed by firing an arrow into a distant target.
What was the last amazing book you read?
JR Wards Brotherhood of the Black Dagger books always grab me and hold me captive until the very last page. I just re-read the last two books in the series because the next one has just been released.
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
Curled up in the corner of my comfy sofa with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate.
What can readers expect next from you?
Perception, the next book in the Emotional Chains series is due out in August so I’m working hard on polishing the manuscript at the moment. After that, I have an outline for a brand new Contemporary Romantic Suspense series, and also another paranormal series. Maybe I’ll flip a coin to see what comes first, or maybe I’ll try to do them all at once.
Where can readers find you on the web?
My web page is www.carolynwren.com and I love to chat to readers.
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
“Please just stop. Don’t come any closer.” Her back hit the wall of a kiosk. There was nowhere else she could go. One breath, one brick. Control slipped further, racing away from her battered, desperate mind. A third person touched their face, gasping at the blood on their fingers.
“Stop, stop.” Kira’s words dissolved into sobs, and the fragile brick wall surrounding her abilities shattered into a thousand pieces.

Excerpt 2
She sighed and leaned forward. “I’m about to tell you something. I would appreciate it if you’d listen with an open mind, because it’s going to shock you.”Mike mirrored her position, leaning his elbows on the table. “Very little shocks me these days, Miss Baron.”“I prefer Meredith, or Merri.”He inclined his head in acknowledgement. “If you have information on this case, I need to hear it.”She fiddled with the spoon from her chocolate. The first non-confident move he’d seen her make. “I think Freddy may have been killed because of abilities he had.”“Abilities?”“Freddy was empathic. He could feel emotions as a physical sense.”Mike sagged, fighting a keen sense of disappointment and a growing anger. He thought they were on to something, but no. She was one of those loopy new-age nut jobs—a very beautiful new-age nut job.“You don’t believe me.”Mike shoved his coffee cup aside. “No, I don’t believe you, and if you’ve finished wasting my time, I have real work to do.”“Wait,” she said as he stood.“I’m a busy man, Miss Baron.”“What happened in the alley?”Mike hesitated with his palms flat on the table. “Nothing.”“Liar. You had a panic attack.”“Fine. I had a panic attack. I work ninety hours a week on a good week. I don’t eat or sleep properly, and I see a lot of terrible things. Sometimes the stress gets to me, okay?”“I did it.”“Bull dust.”“This would be so much easier if you just believed me, but I see I’m going to have to prove it.”“Prove what?” A rush of pure erotic heat raced through Mike’s body and headed straight between his legs. He sat down with a thud as those same limbs turned into wet noodles. She leaned further across the table. “It’s funny, isn’t it, how we accept some emotions as a normal part of our daily life? Fear, pain, worry, anger, anxiety, guilt? We put them down as a standard occurrence caused by traffic jams, a suspicious person in our peripheral vision, a horrendous story on the evening news. You know what I mean, all sorts of things. But, sexual excitement? Desire? Lust? Arousal? Those we can’t explain away quite so easily, can we, detective?”Her voice was a husky edged blade running over his skin. Heat. His whole body was a mass of pulsing aroused heat. Mike fought the almost uncontrollable urge to jerk his hips forward and sink into soft firm flesh. I’m having sex. Jesus, I feel like I’m having sex. All of the sensations were there. A series of highly carnal scenarios ran though his mind like a movie. Supple limbs wrapping around his, warm silky skin rubbing against him, moist lips panting with hot breath, fanning his face. His erection pressed against his zipper, and even that was unreasonably erotic. Mike was lost in a sensual storm, held captive by luminous blue eyes. The pressure built in his lower back, culminating in a blast of sensation, a tightening of his groin. Christ, I’m going to come.Meredith broke eye contact, relaxed back in her chair, and picked up her hot chocolate.Mikes impending orgasm, and all the associated sensations, vanished. He slumped against the table, heaving in great lungful’s of air. “Jesus Christ!”“Nope. Just me.”He gaped at her, his fingers curled into claws against the solid wood, and heart beating in double time. “What are you?”The look she gave him was a mixture of exasperation and annoyance. “I’m not a what. I’m an empath. What do you say? Are you willing to listen to me now?”“Yes,” he said, through a clenched jaw.
“Good.” She slid a gilt edged business card toward him, before standing and hitching a leather bag on her shoulder. “My place at eight tonight, address is on the card. Be prepared to listen. Oh, and Stone, drink your coffee. You look like you need it.”

Carolyn Wren is the award winning author of a seven part romantic suspense series called, The Protectors. Having spent her working life as a book-keeper and finance officer for international companies, she discovered a passion for fiction writing in 2009. Assuming it was some sort of mid-life crisis, she kept it a secret for six months. In an impulsive move, she entered The Emerald, a prestigious writing contest for unpublished authors run by the Romance Writers of Australia. Much to her utter shock, she won it. This was followed shortly after by a finalist placing in the International Daphne Du Maurier Awards for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense.
Carolyn received a seven book contract with Secret Cravings Publishing in 2011. Her debut published work Diplomat’s Daughter won the RWA ‘Ella’ award for novella of the year.
To date, The Protectors series has received four award nominations, resulting in two trophies.
Carolyn’s other works include a very naughty ghost erotic novella Ghosts of Grace Cottage that she wrote during a stormy winter day. Her new series, the murder mystery urban fantasy Emotional Chains is her latest obsession.
She writes full time now, enjoys every minute of it, and loves hearing from readers.

10 Reasons Why Shifters Make the Best Boyfriends-Guest Blog: Once An Alpha by Callie McKenna

Hi, I’m Callie McKenna (author of the S Files series) and today I’m presenting you with my list of why you should go and date a shifter!
1) They are HOT – Okay, okay….go ahead and call me shallow. But there’s no denying shifters are always sexy as hell. Whoever coined the term ‘tall, dark and handsome’ definitely had a shifter in mind when they came up with it. With their chiseled features, tousled hair and sexy abs, they are almost every woman’s dream guy.
2) Great sex – Ever read a book where a shifter was terrible in bed? Nope, neither have I. Shifters are primal; the strong, silent protector who suddenly sprouts claws that rip through your clothes and ravish you with animal lust. They have tons of stamina, and they care about making you feel good... over and over. No more ‘wham-bam-thank you-ma’am’!
3) Fiercely protective – Find yourself kidnapped by an evil warlord and trapped on a remote island? Never fear, your shifter mate will find you and rescue you. With his crazy-good scenting abilities, he’ll track you down in no time…and whoever kidnapped you will pay a high price for their actions. As long as you’re with a shifter, he’ll do absolutely everything in his power to keep you safe.
4) Loves family – Family is one of the most important aspects of life to a shifter. You won’t have to worry about whether or not he wants to have kids at some stage, because you better damn believe he wants kids…lots and lots of them! Not only will he be fiercely protective of you, he’ll be the same way towards your babies. Everyone in the family will always have love, safety and support.
5) Loves you for who you are – Feeling a little insecure about yourself? Don’t worry, your shifter mate loves you exactly how you are. Shifters like women of all shapes and sizes. Every single inch of you is perfect to them, and they will worship your body as long as you live.
6) They are loyal – I think we’ve all dated that guy who can’t stop his wandering eye, but with a shifter you no longer have to worry about it. Once a shifter has found his true mate, that’s it for him – he’ll never want another woman, and he’ll never do anything to risk losing his mate. Wouldn’t that level of trust be wonderful?
7) Passionate – You won’t need to worry about the spark fading in the relationship with a shifter. Passionate by nature, they’ll always be the guy who grabs you around the waist and pushes you up against the wall for a rough kiss. Just what the doctor ordered…
8) Free pregnancy testing – Trying to conceive? Don’t worry about wasting your money on expensive early-response pregnancy testing kits. Your shifter mate will be able to catch the scent of your baby growing inside you before you’ve even suspected anything is up. And if you aren’t yet pregnant…don’t worry, he loves to practice getting you there.
9) They know what it’s like to be different – If you’ve ever had trouble fitting in somewhere or felt a bit like an outcast, don’t worry – your shifter mate understands! Being so different to regular humans has ensured he knows just what it’s like to feel as if you’re a little lost as you try to find yourself in the world, and he can support you through the worst of it.
10) Never get lost again – Ladies, throw out your GPS and roadmaps and nab yourself a shifter. With their superior scenting abilities, you’ll find it impossible to get lost as long as he’s around.
Well, now that we’ve covered that… who are your favorite sexy shifters from any books or movies you’ve come across?

Excerpt: “Anyway, I’d tell you what the position is right now, but we’re still waiting on a third party,” Director Armstrong said, leaning back slightly. “You are one of two agents we want on this task force, and unfortunately he is quite late.”“Who is he?” I asked, but I didn’t need to. Only a second after I spoke, the door opened, and I had to suppress the urge to roll my eyes as David Lyndon sauntered in.Seeing him always sent my body into a tailspin of confusion. I couldn’t stand the guy, but there was no denying what he did to me and probably every other woman he came within ten feet of. The man was gorgeous. With a lot more than a capital G. Seriously, even thinking of him made my heart jump in my chest and fireworks go off in my stomach. He had golden-tanned skin with dark hair, flawless chiseled features and piercing green eyes, and also enough muscles to share with at least five other men. But like I said, I couldn’t stand him. Not after spending all that time down in Quantico with him at the academy, and certainly not after that night. He was a smooth-talking asshole, a womanizer and arrogant to boot. I suppose he couldn’t help it, what with women melting in his presence and practically throwing their panties at him.“Myla,” he said, nodding in my direction and flashing that panty-dropping grin at me. Not today, Lyndon. You wish. I seethed at the idea of having to be paired with him, and I gave him a stiff nod in return. The last time I’d seen him was at some agency function in the city a year ago, where I’d taken pains to avoid him and then given him the cold shoulder when he’d caught me off guard and tried to start a conversation with me.“Okay, let’s get down to it,” Director Armstrong said, motioning for Lyndon to sit. “I’ve asked you here today because we want you both working in this little department that’s been around for a while, but…err… well, most agents have never heard of it. And for good reason too. It’s a little… unorthodox.”“Unorthodox how?” I asked sharply.“It’s called the S Files,” he replied, looking at Lyndon and me to gauge our responses. I’d never heard of it, and I raised an eyebrow, but Lyndon clearly had because he simply smiled and nodded.“This department investigates strange events around the country that regular police departments have classified as unsolved due to… how can I put this… due to extenuating circumstances.”I raised my other eyebrow this time as well.“What sort of extenuating circumstances?” I asked.Director Armstrong looked slightly flustered, and it was clear he thought he was going to have a hard time getting me on board. “Paranormal events. Unexplained phenomena. Those sorts of shenanigans.”This time I could barely contain my surprise. I’d heard of departments like this existing, but I’d always assumed it was part of the agency lore. Not real in any way. But here I was being asked to join the S Files, with David Lyndon of all people.“Um. Okay then…. and why exactly is he here? Couldn’t find any other decent agents?” I jerked my head in Lyndon’s direction, plastering a big old fake saccharin-sweet smile on my face. I knew I was being unprofessional, but I just couldn’t help myself when it came to him.Director Armstrong pursed his lips into a thin smile. “Now, now. I’m aware of the fact that you two didn’t exactly get along back in the day, but we need you both on this. Agent Lyndon has experience with certain matters that may come in handy.”Lyndon smirked at me and I rolled my eyes. Experience, huh? As far as I knew, the only thing he was experienced at was talking women out of their panties…and out of their minds, I presumed. You’d have to be insane to actually fall for his so-called charms.“Why is it called the S Files?” I asked. “What does the S stand for?”Director Armstrong coughed and crossed his arms. “The S stands for Shifter. We have compelling reason to believe that many unexplained events that go on in this world can be explained by the existence of shapeshifters.”I snorted back laughter. “This has got to be a joke. Shapeshifters?”Lyndon narrowed his eyes at me, and Director Armstrong smiled. “Keep an open mind, Agent Peyton. Not everything can be explained with the logic of science. But that’s where you come in, to try and prove us wrong. To sort out the paranormal from the regular old things that can be explained rationally.”This time I didn’t suppress the urge to roll my eyes. “Right. So when would we start?”“Right away,” Armstrong replied. “You’ve both already been relieved of your current postings.”Great. So apparently I didn’t even get a choice in the matter. Whether I liked it or not, I had been removed from my geeky position with the computer scientists and forced into the S Files, with Lyndon foisted upon me as well. Double whammy. The S Files. What a ridiculous name. And the FBI believing in shifters? I’ll be damned. I was willing to bet that whatever allegedly paranormal events we looked into, there would be a rational explanation for all of them. Or else I’d eat my shirt.Armstrong continued. “We’ll need you both to take a plane to Denver tomorrow morning. Your first case awaits…”

Author Callie McKenna loves to write hot and sexy stories. How hot? So hot that they might very well scorch your e-reader! Usually paranormal, her stories are a great way to satisfy your cravings for smart, sassy heroines with curves and sexy alpha shifters.
Callie was born in the US but raised in South Africa before moving to Australia upon meeting her husband. They live together with their two gorgeous cats and (hopefully) they can add a baby to that mix soon. She is addicted to coffee, marshmallows and Indian food, but thankfully not all at the same time...

Excerpt:
“Connor, what the heck is going on out there?” Maxim, Sr.’s gruff voice boomed throughout the small office. “Murdered remains of both men and women are showing up all over the country! My boss is all over my ass about handing over any leads.”“What leads do you have?” Connor asked, raising his gaze to meet his dad’s and giving him a knowing.“Most of the bodies were shifters. Both Caedmon and Arnou. If we can’t handle our clean-ups and messes, we’ll have the humans all up in our shit. I can’t hold them off any longer.”“Dammit,” Connor clenched his fist on the desk.A promise to keep his voice down had not been fulfilled and suddenly Connor realized that he shouldn’t have agreed to have this conversation here with his father. Closing time at Maxim Securities happened several hours ago, so there was no on left for the day. Even the cleaning crew had finished up the nightly rounds and left, but Connor remained behind after hours as always did night after night.Still the matter was imperative and by the tone and urgency of his dad’s voice, they were running out of time before both of their covers were blown.Connor rubbed the tension at the back of his neck, ground his teeth together and turned around to face his father. “What you’re saying doesn’t make any sense? The main perpetrator of the wolf strippings was executed months ago following the union of both Packs.”Maxim, Sr. plopped down in the leather high-back chair in front of his desk. “Then if it’s not the witch, who could be behind this?”“The witch had followers,” Connor said. “If this is the case, the situation is being handled. This is Pack business and not the humans’ concerns.”“Pack members were found slaughtered in wolf form. Not stripped, but intentionally shot and killed,” Maxo, Sr. Said.Connor paused. There had been no known accounts of wolf shifters being stripped while in their real form. Last he had heard, that wasn’t possible. And unless gears had shifted after the witch’s death, the focus had always been on stripping the souls of wolves, not ending their lives. This wasn’t good. This wasn’t good at all.“I’ll need time to investigate. I—““Like I said, I won’t be able to hold the Feds off from intervening for long. The incidents are becoming too frequent and news reporters and beginning to get suspicious and are quick to blow a story out of proportion.” Maxim, Sr. narrowed his gaze, his thick grey eyebrows coming together just above his nose. “We can’t risk discovery to the public. Not now. Have a meeting with the Caedmon Alpha.” He threw his hands up. “Fuck! Have a meeting with Tristan Arnou, for all I care. I don’t think either of the Alphas want human authorities up their alley at this point. Come to think of it, I don’t think they want the authorities up their alley at all.”His father was more than thirty years his senior. He was the man who raised him and structured his lucrative and low-profile career as one of the few liaisons between the government and wolf shifter Packs. His purpose was simple: he had a duty to keep the peace and protect the Packs. It was his honor to ensure continuity of the shifter race like his direct ancestors before him, no matter where his allegiance rested.“Look, Dad…” Connor finally sat down in the chair behind his desk. Maxim Sr. had been on edge the moment he barged through the doorway, which had sent Connor straight to attention since he hardly ever came out in person anymore. “Hold them off as long as you can. What we’re dealing with right now are two Alphas who are blood thirsty and will immediately kill anyone who crosses them. Both leaders have been burned by traitors and now is not the time to test their limits. Keep the human authorities at bay as long as you can.”Maxim Sr. straightened in his chair. “You know how the Feds work. There’s a deadline. After three days, I won’t be able to convince them that the Pack leaders have everything under control any longer.” Connor scrubbed his palm down his face. “Alpha Devin is away on pack business at the moment. It could be a few days before I can reach him.”“You need to reach him now. What about his Council?”“I’d much rather report and receive orders from to the Alpha himself, but if I must I’ll consult with his Second.” Connor linked and unlinked his fingers on the desktop. “We’ve earned this right to live in secrecy and within the rules of our society. Don’t make any rash decisions, Dad, until I give the word.”Maxim Sr. emitted a growl and his irises flashed with specks of gold. “You’re patient, son, but I am not. In three days time, I need some answers.”

An off duty fire fighter encounters a sexy vampire in what he thought was an abandoned house.
The flames that ignite will leave them both scorched…and aching for more.
An Unexpected Evening
Samuel is a centuries-old vampire who prefers to be a recluse. He is always afraid of losing control and becoming the monster he once was. Falling in love with a young witch has pushed his boundaries and pulled him out of his comfort zone.
Katerina always encourages Samuel to be more open, to let loose, and to really "live" instead of only existing in the shadows.
One night, he finally grants her wish . . . in ways she never imagined.
Underneath the Fangs
Samuel is being framed for murder. Katerina knows he is not guilty but she has to convince Samuel that he is not a monster and that he is worthy of her love.
Cemetery Seduction
Abby, a half witch, half vampire whose powers go awry in a club, has to run, afraid that the Others, who are policing all human/magick interaction, might put her in jail. She ends up in a cemetery, jumps behind a bush and lands right on top of a very sexy ghost hunter.
No Place I'd Rather Be
Sonora is torn between a human and a vampire. How can she choose between the man who makes her feel safe and the vampire that makes her blood race? Sonora prays to the Goddess for guidance while harboring secret desires that her broody vampire, Brom, and her brawny human, Avery, can get past their jealousy and be willing to do more than just share the witch in the middle.
Can the Goddess grant Sonora's wish, or will she be stuck making an impossible choice?
Blood, Lust and Shadows
Vampire/succubus hybrid Allana is on the prowl looking for a bloody snack and a sexy energy boost. While strutting her stuff in a dark parking lot she encounters a yummy Latino who makes a lovely meal. She also encounters something else that puts her senses into overdrive.
Complete Circle
Lissette is a vampire who has lived with her succubus girlfriend, Cassandra, for a long time. She swore off relationships with men after being viciously raped by the vampire hunters who killed the love of her life and left her for dead.
Lissette and Cassandra only use men to get what they need, blood for Lissette and sexual energy for Cassandra. They are completely satisfied with their lives- until a mysterious stranger comes along.
For the first time in centuries Lissette wants a man. Why is she so drawn to him? What is he?
Much more than a mere mortal, Gabriel has been searching for Lissette and Cassandra for a very long time. They have what he needs, what no one else can give him.
But will they be willing to share?
A Package Deal
Chloe needs to get out of the city- fast. So she buys an old farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere- with one stipulation. The caretaker gets to stay. She readily agrees thinking it’s an old man that won’t give her any trouble.
Ash is definitely not what she expected.
My Demon Valentine
Elita wants to give her demon boyfriend a Valentine’s Day to remember. Connor was built for giving pleasure but Elita wants to turn the tables on that.
This time the pleasure will be all his.

Book Description:
Veronica tries to cope with losing her sister but is drawn to everything that seemingly took Megan away. A magical stone. Rune staves. A Viking king. The far distant past. It all seems too impossible to believe. Until she slides down a snow swept hill near Maine's, Raven's Nest cliffs straight into a reality she never could have imagined.
Of dragon blood and brother to the king, Raknar Sigdir 'the hunter' is determined to welcome any woman from the future if it means he can conquer anew for his people. For those he cares about most. However, Veronica, the irresistible woman thrust back in time, soon has his mind less on loot and more on all the things he forgot about himself.
Honor. Decency. Pride. The ability to love.
A pact with the seers hangs in the balance when a ninth century Viking gives in to his heart to protect a modern day woman from a sworn, powerful enemy...his former wife. Rash actions mean an uncertain outcome. A new fate unfolds. An ultimatum is given. A claim must be made. Now all that lies ahead is a challenge that might very well mean the loss of an unparalleled passion found across time.

Excerpt
Raknar was heading in her direction.Though tempted to take a healthy swig from her skin, she didn’t. Instead, Veronica stood up straighter and waited for him to approach. Believe it or not, she’d never seen him look quite as intent as he did at this moment. As if the devil was coming for her soul but he’d get there faster. Purposeful, focused, he strode up to her. Before she could say a word, he yanked her against him.Not a kiss. Not quite. But so very close.Eyes nearly shut; his mouth hovered centimeters from hers, his hot breath a whisper over her lips. It was as if they were reliving that moment when he first pulled her down onto the Drakkar longship. Save now they were far closer, unparalleled need pulsating and palpable between them, like a living, breathing thing. “Raknar,” she whispered before she could stop herself. Her eyes slid shut. His lips came closer, hovered, rested against hers but didn’t move. Nothing existed but the feel of him against her. A renewed fire, a blatant want that had been there since the moment they first laid eyes on one another.A shiver raced through her.Lightning fast, he dug one hand into her hair and the other around the side of her neck. Still they didn’t move. Lips close. Breath mingling. Heat didn’t just flare but roared between them, an untouchable element made to mock, to accentuate the place both fought but needed so very much.Somehow they were better at this. Wanting but not taking. Needing but avoiding. Pushing but not going all the way. Yet they had that in common. An unwillingness to scale the walls they’d erected. His lips moved away and his cheek pressed against hers, his whisper close to her ear. “Come. Dance with me, woman.”In any century. Raknar gave her no chance to respond before they moved closer to the fire and she was in his arms, her body swaying slowly against his. Veronica dropped the skin of mead, not interested in her drink as she floated, lost. Just like she’d been that first night. Gone within his arms.Gone within him.Though it only felt like moments, the night drifted away. The planet turned. The stars moved. Vikings laughed, danced, partied, sang, but never once did Raknar let her go. They moved, touched, but never kissed. His hands drifted over her body not lewdly but worshiping, as though he memorized her every curve, every line that made up her form.
