Character Interview - Waxing Moon by Sarah E. Stevens

Blog: Today we have Julie Hall with us. A few months ago, Julie found out her baby Carson is a Werewolf. She wrote about those adventures in Dark Moon Wolf. You might think that’s enough excitement for anyone to deal with, but Julie recently had another set of adventures she chronicled in Waxing Moon, just published. Julie agreed to join us today and answer some questions.
Julie: Thanks for having me! I’ve never been interviewed before, so this is kind of exciting.
Blog: So, Julie, let me get this straight. Your baby Carson is a Werewolf?
Julie: (laughs) I know—I could hardly believe it myself. Yes, he’s a Were. Before all this happened, I had no idea that Werewolves even existed! And now I’m the mom of a Were pup.
Blog: What’s the hardest thing about being a mother to a Werewolf?
Julie: Well, none of it’s easy. I mean, motherhood in general is hard, isn’t it? Diaper changes and tantrums and dropped pacifiers. Then just imagine if your baby also turned into a furry little wolf during the full moon.
Blog: How did he become a Werewolf? Was he bitten by someone?
Julie: No, that’s the weird thing. A lot of the mythology around Werewolves is totally wrong. I’m not sure I should say more, though… I do want you to buy my books and if I give everything away now…?
Blog: (laughs) Good point. How old is Carson now?
Julie: He’s six months old. He first changed into a wolf at four months—that’s the night I found a baby wolf in his crib—which is very early for a Were to manifest. The next full moon, I nearly lost him. He changed shape early in the evening before I had time to get him home and then he just took off across the park. We’d been having a late picnic with some friends. These were non Werewolf friends, mind you, regular humans. I’m still amazed my cover story worked. No one saw the actual transformation, so I just pointed after the wolf and yelled, “Look, a lost puppy!” and ran after him. I kind of cradled my arms to pretend I was still carrying Carson while I chased the puppy across the playground. After I finally caught him, I went right back to the car and texted my friends to tell them I had a migraine. I don’t even get migraines!
Blog: I can’t imagine worrying that my baby would sprout fur!
Julie: Yeah, after that we stay close to home during the three days of the fullest moon.
Blog: So what other paranormal creatures have you met?
Julie: Witches, of course. Did you know there are honest-to-goodness witches in the world? With ritual spells? They call on the four elements to do all sorts of magic.
Blog: Have you learned any witchcraft?
Julie: Oh no. It’s not like that. You can’t be taught—you have to be born into the lineage. During my most recent—what did you call them? Adventures? In my latest book, I talk about an entirely new paranormal race called Salamanders.
Blog: Salamanders?
Julie: Yes! I see you haven’t heard of them either. Salamanders have powers associated with the sun. They control things like light, fire, and heat. Werewolves are connected to the moon, right? So ’Manders and Weres are kind of antithetical to each other. Some Werewolves really hate Salamanders.
Blog: Julie, I don’t want to bring up anything upsetting, but I know that you really loved Carson’s dad Mac—Roger MacGregor. What’s going on in your love life now?
Julie: (long pause) Nothing, really. I mean…nothing to talk about…I mean…there was this one guy recently…well. It didn’t work out. I guess. It’s kind of confusing. I’m not sure.
Blog: Do you think you two might get together in the end?
Julie: Well, that’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? (laughs) Oh, I think I hear Carson fussing. I’d better go now. It’s been really fun to talk to you, though. Thanks for not asking any weird questions, like what ice cream flavor I’d be if I were an ice cream flavor.
Blog: What ice cream flavor would you be?
Julie: Oh wow. Chocolate peanut butter? Just because it’s delicious? Anyway, thanks for the interview and I hope you and your readers take a look at my books!
Blog: Absolutely! Thanks for being here!

Excerpt 1:
I jolted awake because of the barking—deep barks that sounded right next to me even though I slept alone in my bedroom. I sat up before I opened my eyes and even then, my brain lagged behind. For the first few seconds, I stared at the flames before understanding my house was on fire. My house was on fire. Carson! The curtains at my window burned, flames shooting up toward the ceiling. I stared at them and almost forgot to move. Then panic poured through me and I jumped up. I felt disoriented: the blackness, the flames, the smoke beginning to fill the room, the roar. My heart raced in terror. My baby was in this fire. With a high-pitched crash, my bedroom windows exploded from the heat, and a shower of hot glass flew into the room. I reflexively turned away, arms raised to cover my face. Some of the glass hit me, hot stings against my arms and side, but I barely felt the pain. Below the thunder of the fire, I heard the smoke alarm sound a futile warning. I didn’t think to drop to my knees, to detour into the bathroom for a wet cloth, to crawl to Carson’s bedroom. Instead, I ran through the house, breathed in the choking smoke, felt my hands and feet start to numb from panic. Fire filled the hallway to Carson’s room, and I skidded to a frantic stop, unable to reach him. Carson! My throat so raw from the smoke I couldn't even scream his name. Heat pounded down the hallway, along with thick black smoke, and flames blocked his door. The window! Maybe I could get to him from his window, from outside. I whirled, stumbled, and ran back down the hallway. The fire seemed to chase me until my numb feet tripped on the edge of the area rug and I fell hard, sending a stab of pain into my arm where some glass stuck. Landing, I remembered I should stay on the floor. The air was slightly clearer down there, and I crawled the last feet to the front door, lined by small paned windows shattered by heat. Glass pieces bit into my knees as I reached the door, the doorknob hot in my hand as I turned it. I launched myself onto the front stoop, then forced myself off the ground to run around the side of the house. Flames snaked upward toward the roof; the siding below was a mass of char. How did the fire erupt so quickly? I ran to Carson’s window, now a gaping wound in the siding framed by jagged pieces of glass. The eaves above sang with rising flame and sheets of smoke poured off the lower walls. My bare feet sank into mud, deep mud, and I paused for a second, confused because the water didn’t make sense. I shook my head to clear it. Carson. I had to get to Carson. I tried to knock out the rest of the glass on the window frame, before I pulled myself up and over the window. My eyes searched for my baby against in the darkness—thank all the gods! Somehow, there was no fire in his room. I landed heavily on the carpet. The floor was wet and cold shocked my skin. I didn’t have sprinklers—what the hell? I sloshed through inches of water and finally reached Carson’s crib. He cried, which meant he was alive, and my heart leapt. Tears streamed down his face and his mouth opened in a howl. I grabbed him, held him fiercely and maybe a little too tight, but he grabbed me right back with arms and legs, burrowed into my body, rubbed his face into my shoulder. He was soaking wet from tears. Or— Something cracked overhead and I leapt back toward the window, swung my legs up and over the sill, and dropped down into the mud. I landed heavily on one side with Carson cradled against me and pain stabbed through my hip. Holding Carson to me with one arm, I crawled as far as I could—which wasn’t far—then collapsed onto the ground. I looked back at my house. Fire blazed on the roof. Carson still cried; I cried. We both gasped for air. We were black with soot, with ash, with mud. We were soaked. I was suddenly freezing. Nothing made sense. Then a growl came out of the darkness and chills raced up my spine. I sat up and turned to see what my body already knew. A huge, black wolf. A Werewolf—it had to be. Only Weres were that big. But who was he? Why was he here? The wolf stood mere feet from me with hackles raised and mouth half-open. Red light from the fire reflected off his teeth. He crouched, muscles taut, ready to spring. “No!” I shouted and clutched Carson to me, a surge of anger giving me strength. Why would a Were attack us?

Release Day Blitz Stella Maris by Marita A. Hansen

“Hello, Christopher, thank you for agreeing to this interview.”
“Prego.” Christopher shakes my hand, sending shivers up my arm, his Italian accent delicious. But it’s not his accent that leaves me gaping like a star struck fool. Although he’s younger than me, eighteen to my twenty-four years, I find myself inexplicably attracted to him. He is stunningly beautiful, his jet black hair framing angelic features. Though, his cocky expression is definitely not angelic, along with the fire tattoos covering his muscular arms and the sexy gold ring piercing his bottom lip.
He flicks his tongue over the ring, the following smirk alerting me to the fact he’s caught me staring at it. Embarrassed, I quickly look down at my interview questions, hoping my face isn’t as red as my hair.
“I hear that you’re in a relationship.” I look back up at him, completely jealous of his girlfriend. “What is your other half’s name and how did you meet her?”
He smiles, his whole face lightening up at the question. "Her name is Catherine Lovich. I first met her at my confirmation class, but didn’t get the chance to talk to her until the following day, when my imbecile of a cousin almost ran her over. I went to help her, but she rebuffed my aid, basically telling me to get lost in rather rude terms.” His smile widened.
“But I won her over.”
“It’s not hard to see why.”
He leans forward, his eyes locking onto mine. “And why is that?”
“Because you’re...” I clear my throat, embarrassed by my answer. “Beautiful.”
He snorts out an amused laugh and leans back in his chair, giving me an arrogant smirk. “True.”
His reply throws me off. I didn’t expect him to agree with me; I expected him to dismiss my observation, acting humble instead of cocky.
He raises an eyebrow as if to tell me to hurry up with the interview questions, that he’d much rather be doing other things than talking to me.
Feeling a touch aggrieved, I glance back down at my sheet. "What attracted you to your girlfriend?”
“You want me to sugar coat my answer or to speak frankly?”
“Frankly.”
He runs his tongue over his lip ring, the glint in his dark eyes more demonic than angelic.
“Catherine’s incredibly sexy. She has gorgeous long white hair, the face of an angel, the eyes of a chameleon, and the tongue of a devil, and a body I would commit sin to touch.”
“Well, that is a rather...” I clear my throat again, Christopher probably thinking I had a cold, “frank reply.”
He smiles wide, the wicked look on his face making me wonder what’s running through his mind. Whatever it was, it was definitely not PG.
“Um...” I say, feeling like a school girl with an embarrassing crush. "You mentioned that you initially didn’t get along with Catherine. Were there other bumps in the journey to you two becoming boyfriend and girlfriend?”
He nods. “I got upset with her when I thought she was a Siren.”
“What do you mean by a Siren?”
“The demon water creatures who woo the opposite sex to their deaths.”
My eyebrows shoot up. “Pardon?”
He frowns. “Why do you look so shocked?”
I bite back a grimace, realising I’d slipped up, my cover as a reporter for the Merge Chronicle now at risk of being exposed. “I wasn’t sure I heard you right,” I adlib, hoping he believed me.
Contrary to what I’d told him, I worked for a covert agency, one who was trying to prove that supernatural beings were real, something we thought we could do through Christopher. The tip-off we’d gotten about him being an angel was looking like a strong possibility, his ethereal looks and his knowledge giving me the hope he was the real deal.
“And Marises aren’t always demons,” I add, mentioning what I’d read in the Merge Chronicles, a journal my boss had found in Rome.
Christopher relaxes, looking like he’s bought my cover up. “I didn’t realise that Marises could also be angels. After what happened to me, I assumed they were all demons.”
“What happened to you?”
He shifts about in his chair, for the first time looking uncomfortable. “A Maris demon tortured me, carving angel wings into my back.”
I go silent, taken aback by what he’d said.
“Don’t ask me to show you the scars,” he continues, “because I won’t.”
I shake my head, not even dreaming of asking him to expose himself like that. “Of course. I’m sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable about it.”
He doesn’t reply. His attention instead shifts to the window, giving the impression he’s thinking about what was done to him. I shiver at the thought of a demon brutalising such a beautiful being. It makes me want to wrap him in cotton wool so no one could hurt him ever again. I frown, not understanding why I would feel that way, especially since my job was to expose him, not to protect him.
I dismiss my strange thoughts, quickly moving on with the interview: “I was told by a source that your family hates your girlfriend.”
His gaze returns to me, his brown eyes turning black, anger radiating off him. From his reaction, I gather I’ve hit a raw nerve, my source obviously correct.
I push on, “Why do they hate her?” I ask, wanting to confirm everything that the informant had said.
“They think she’s a Maris demon,” he replies. “My famiglia are Seraphim. They hate Marises.”
I nod, having read about the Seraphim, otherwise known as the fire angels—and demons. The sudden thought that Christopher could be a demon crosses my mind. Demons were supposedly just as beautiful as angels, their true natures hidden beneath a magical facade. He quirks a questioning brow at me. “Why are you acting so nervous?”
I swallow, trying to think of something quick so he doesn’t suspect I’m an imposter. “I’m intensely attracted to you.” Not a lie.
His frown depends. “While I’m not to you?” He cocks his head to the side, giving me a thorough onceover, causing the flush to extend down my neck. He points a finger at me “There’s something not quite right about you, something missing.”
“I don’t know what you mean,” I reply, wishing he would stop staring at me like that, his eyes incredibly intrusive.
“You don’t act like a Merge,” he answers, mentioning his kind. Merges were the descendants of angels and demons, supernatural beings who could manipulate the four elements of water, fire, air, and earth.
“I’m a weak Merge,” I counter, “my ability not strong.”
He shakes his head. “Or more likely you’re pretending to be a Merge.”
I sit up straighter. “I am not.”
“Then why do you give of human vibes? Although you’re beautiful enough to be a Merge, you lack something.” He points his finger at me again. “Magnetism. Sì, that’s what it is. Even though I’m in love with Catherine and would never cheat on her, I should still feel a magnetic pull towards you, even a minor one. But I feel nothing. And the only time that happens is if the person’s human.”
“I’m not human!” I snap, faking my annoyance to hide my fear. “I’m like you. A Seraphim.”He shoots out of his chair, the suddenness causing it to fall to the ground. “You are lying to me!”
My eyes widen. “No, I’m not. I am a Seraphim.”
“Seraphim is plural. If you were truly one of my kind you’d say a Seraph. You also would have brown, not green eyes. Only Terra Merges have green eyes.”
He steps closer, causing me to shrink back into my chair, his posture now threatening, the boy looking like he wanted to burn me alive. My eyes widen further as flames ignite in his right hand, my thoughts now a very real possibility, especially since the informant had warned me that Merges were willing to kill to keep their people a secret.
I shake my head vigorously. “I really am a Seraph; I’m just wearing contact lenses.”
He leans his face down to mine, his hot breath tickling my flesh. “Contact lenses can’t hide a Merge’s true eye colour,” he growls, “which means you are lying.”
I start shaking uncontrollably. “Please don’t hurt me, I’m just a reporter,” I blurt out, not willing to confess my true identity, afraid it would endanger my life even more.
“For who?”
“The Supernatural Times,” I say, praying he believed me, the flames in his hand making me sweat.
Letting out an annoyed huff, he closes his hand, instantly putting out the flames, only the smell of smoke lingering. He reaches into his shirt and pulls out a stunning red rosary, touching one of the beads on it.
“You will forget what we’ve spoken about?” he says.
I blink, wondering who the beautiful boy standing in front of me is, and how he’d appeared so suddenly. “Who are you?” I ask.
He smiles. “No one.” He turns and walks out of the room, leaving me staring at the door.
The End.

When night falls in Giger, Texas, shadows gather as they always do in dim corners and other areas bereft of light. But this time they consolidate and attack any who tread too close. Michael Warren, a twenty-four-year-old resident of Giger, finds himself at the epicenter of this horror and is stunned by the losses suffered overnight. Then the sun sets and the shadows again coalesce, growing more aggressive, the darkness eviscerating anyone it touches.
His only weapon light, Michael struggles to survive and searches frantically for his girlfriend, aiding friends along the way. When Hurricane Daniel roars ashore, wind gusts shred trees and tear down power lines, plunging all of Southeastern Texas into blackness that only feeds and strengthens the encroaching darkness. Rising floodwater provides easy thoroughfares from which the darkness can strike as Michael and his friends contend with the elements, clash with criminals, and battle their way to his residence where they will stand against the darkness and fight to survive.

Excerpt:
The last rays of light pierced through those familiar parted drapes, rich and green, the light like a beam, piercing the air of a particularly dim room, particles of dust visible in the bright intrusion, causing Trevor’s eyes to squint closed, the corners of the lids creased, lines running together. He hated reflecting on the school day, hated having to reflect on the people there—the same people that had played in his backyard all throughout childhood, those same people who now looked down on him and considered him to be nothing more than an infringement on their privileged world. He closed his eyes, ignoring the gentle brush of vibrating air, hot and somewhat moist, caressing his forehead. It was simply Jonathan, his childhood friend, the only one who continued to stay by his side, the only one to truly know Trevor inside and out. Like all things in one’s secret world, everything breathes the air of your own life.He drifted back into dreams: dreams made of memories, dreams of a time when Trevor belonged, dreams made strictly for childhood.“...Three, two, one, ready or not, here I come!” Little Trevor Blackmoore opened his tiny lids, his delicate lashes fluttering like moths’ wings, adjusting to the bright summer light, standing in his back courtyard, the red flagstone reaching from one end to the other, leaving no room for grass. On the flagstone were two black wrought-iron benches and three sets of black wrought-iron tables, with four chairs each, decorated with tiny white candles inside little glass candle-holders, the Fourth of July party preparing to start.Kathryn was inside of the house, most likely in the sun room chatting with friends, all of them with drinks in hand, laughing and speaking of adult things while their children played hide-and-seek in the back. Four maple trees reached out strategically in the back, no more than twenty feet in height, and strung about with Chinese lanterns; no doubt someone was hiding behind the trees.Trevor was determined to catch one person in particular: Christian Vasquez, who always made it to home base, which was the carriage house along the road, now his mother’s secret place, a place that was secured with three padlocks, a place that Trevor had only seen once and could only vaguely remember. It was a place that had smelled wonderfully and sat illuminated with firelight, a place of plaster eyes, and a place that filled him with fear and peace all at the same time. A strange combination that was often confusing, even now, even though he at this point was intimately aware of the mirrored world, the place of trance-words and things named Jonathan—the most familiar place in all the world.‘I know where they are...’ he said to Trevor in the secret language of the mind, in the voice that only Trevor could hear, touching him with the flesh that only he could feel.“Where’s Christian?” Trevor was scanning the courtyard, trying not to look conspicuous, wanting to be as nonchalant as possible, well aware of the danger of people knowing too much of him. He felt that vibratory hand graze his shoulder and grasp his arm, directing it to the appointed area just behind the drapery of Virginia creeper along the thin wood fence, slowly rotting away with erosion and the growing weight of the plant.‘There....’ Trevor nodded casually and made his way between the trees, running lightly along the flagstone, his little tennis shoes tapping on the brick, seeing the others pop out of hiding. Cheri Hannifin brushed past him in her blue jumper and brown pigtails, giggling inanely to herself. Little Greg Sheer was not far behind, wearing a pair of jean shorts and a black t-shirt with the Batman emblem on the chest, his golden hair bright like the sun, and his blue eyes were not unlike his mother’s: steely and cool. But he could care less about either one of them. Trevor only wanted Christian, and with his specter’s help he was going to get him.The air smelled of the sea and barbequed meat from the back kitchen, as well as from the fire pits in the surrounding yards. The collective clouds of smoke and the fragrance of charred flesh filled the warm summer air and carried itself on the cool breeze. Trevor crept behind the carriage house.“I found you, I found you!” he called repeatedly, his little index finger pointing at the little Hispanic boy crouched behind the green and rope-like plant. A little smirk spread across his face, followed by a wink, and then he was off, both boys laughing as Christian made his way to home base, confident in his success and spotless hide-and-seek record.Trevor watched as the vibratory form of Jonathan moved in front of the little boy and stood his spectral ground, pulling energy from Trevor as well as the earth, making himself as firm as possible, causing Christian to run right into his phantom gut, bringing the little boy to a halt and not allowing him to move. For a brief moment Trevor just stared, fearing that Jonathan would become visible to the others. Normally he looked like nothing more than the heat that vibrates from metal, looking wavy and somewhat like gas, but in this new solidity Trevor feared discovery. He realized rather quickly that no one could see him, so Trevor ran.“You’re it!” Trevor declared, placing his hand on Christian’s shoulder, causing the boy to look at him in brief disappointment, but like all things with children, this disappointment was passing. The four children continued to play, as other kids began to arrive.Trevor’s cousins and fellow classmates from Lowell Elementary arrived, ready to join the existing game or form a new one altogether.Trevor was wary of Jonathan’s presence, knowing that he wasn’t the only one who knew about spirits. In fact, it was a well-known thing in his family, and his cousins had their own strange secrets much like Trevor, but completely individual in their form. The soft whisper of his name forced Trevor back into the present. The light of day was fading fast, and his room was becoming darker by the minute, and Jonathan was growing desperate, commanding attention. The curtains were pushed open by male hands, visible in the dark; in fact, all of Jonathan was visible in the dark.Standing at a steady six feet and three inches, dressed in a tweed suit made of shadow, a strong face with prominent cheekbones stared out on the front lawn. Translucent white skin, like well-polished marble, big oval black eyes deep and endless, absorbing all of the light, his dark hair well-groomed, styled much like Trevor’s and making this specter, this familiar, look incredibly beautiful, sharing secret desires with Trevor Blackmoore, desires named sinful by any God-fearing human being. Thankfully Trevor had no fear of God; in fact, God was a foreign concept to Trevor.‘You need to be dressed for dinner....’ His voice always seemed like a whisper, trailing off, and never with question. That was one of the things Trevor adored about Jonathan. “I know.” Jonathan nodded and went to Trevor’s closet, pulling it open and removing a crisp white shirt and fine black slacks draped over a wood hanger, laying it before Trevor on his bed. The spirit went to his chest of drawers and pulled out a pair of white briefs and his black dress socks, laying them out atop the shirt and slacks.
Trevor stood and lifted his shirt from off his head, his nipples becoming erect at the moment of Jonathan’s touch, those spectral hands moving along his body, those ghost-lips upon his flesh, slowly moving down his chest, trailing along defined abs and pulling open his jeans. Trevor’s eyes rolled into the back of his head as his exposed body found its way back onto the mattress, indulging in the familiar routine.

Blood and Orgasms – An Alexis Black Short Story
I needed blood and an orgasm. Not necessarily in that order. At least that’s what Nathan’s been telling me for weeks. I guess even best friends can’t stand a moody bitch.Good thing I’m a girl who likes to multi-task.I allowed Nathan to tart me up in a black dress so low-cut, one wrong move would expose my not-very-abundant assets. We headed to a local human hot spot, and walked past a line of scantily clad woman and wanna-be Rico Sauvé’s. Once inside, he sat me down at the bar and pointed his finger in my face. “Alexis Black, you’re not getting off that stool until some unlucky sod agrees to take you home and shag you senseless.”Sheesh. “It’s not going to take all night. We’ll be out of here before you know it.” I waved him off. “Well, aim high, don’t hop on the first one that comes your way.” He rubbed my shoulders. “Relax. You’ll scare away all the good ones.” He gave me a peck on my cheek and wandered off in search of his own pulsing vein.Ten minutes. Thirty minutes. Fifty minutes. Not one man approached me. I pulled a compact out of my purse and checked my reflection. No food in my teeth. No objects in my nose. No fangs. My stomach rumbled at the smell of the blood pumping through the humans on the dance floor. So enticing I had to grab the bottom of my stool to keep from snatching someone for a quick bite. Next time I shouldn’t wait to long to feed, but I liked drinking blood as much as I liked sitting in this club.
A tap on my shoulder, and my night was looking up. I tuned around to meet my lucky admirer. The man behind me made my lips droop. Now I was really depressed.Mr. Mustard Stained Tie and receding hairline pointed a ring-clad finger at my half empty glass. “Can I get you another?”I was about to tell him no, but then I saw Nathan’s desperate nod from across the room. Damn. I’ve officially reached a new low. I pasted an overly enthusiastic smile on my face. “I’d love that.”He pulled out a stool and almost toppled over trying to climb on. I grabbed his arm and helped him into his seat. This evening was turning into a disaster. I still needed blood, but I think the orgasm might be out of the question. I looked at my only option for the night, a dead ringer for Joe Pesci in the Goodfellas. The orgasm was definitely out of question. For ten minutes I forced myself to listen to the overeager human try to impress me with his less than stellar achievements in life. Bored. Hungry. Uninterested. I’d had enough. “Want to go somewhere private?”He opened his mouth to say yes, but before the word fled his lips Mr. tall-dark-and-oh-my-god walked up. He grabbed my hand, pulled me from my seat, and rescued me from what was sure to be a walk of shame. We passed by Nathan, whose cheeks were nice and rosy from his liquid dinner. He gave me a thumbs up.I followed my last chance for the night like horny teenager to a two-story red brick walk up. After he opened the door, he gestured for me to go ahead of him. The room I entered was solid white. White walls, white floors, white couch, white leather armchair. And that was all. The door slammed. The lock clicked. I turned and my mouth fell open. Mr. tall-dark-and-oh-my-god was now sporting a pair of solid black wings and a mischievous smile.Things were not going as planned. "Who are you? What are you?""Caleb. Angel."He gestured to the couch. “Sit. Please. Alexis.”The words weren’t a request, and I don’t like to be told what to do. “Not gonna happen.”“Fine.” He walked over to the chair, pulled his wings in tight and took a seat. “You may remain standing.”I walked over to the couch and sat down.He let out a small laugh like I amused him. “What a predictable creature you are.”“Since eating you and fucking you seem to be out of the question, what do you want?”
He adjusted the crease of his tailored black pants and the cuffs of his starched dress shirt. “I have a offer for you. An offer that will change your undead life.”

Jenn Windrow loves characters that have a pinch of spunk, a dash of attitude, and a large dollop of sex appeal. Top it all off with a huge heaping helping of snark, and you've got the ingredients for the kind of fast paced stories she loves to read and write. Home is a suburb of it's-so-hot-my-shoes-have-melted-to-the-pavement Phoenix. Where she lives with her husband, two daughters, and a slew of animals that seem to keep following her home, at least that's what she claims.
Jenn's Urban Fantasy, EVIL’S UNLIKELY ASSASSIN won the RWA Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal (FF&P), “On The Far Side” writing contest in July 2014, top 5 in the RWA Desert Rose, “Realizing the Dream” writing contest, and finaled in the Houston Writers Guild annual writing contest in April 2014. Excerpt:
I slide the glass shower doors open and turn on the water, adjusting until I find just the right temperature. As I step under the spray, the water hits my face in hard pellets. It feels good. Begrudgingly, I reach down to grab a bar of soap. A sharp pain shoots down the left side of my arm. For a moment, I feel paralyzed. My immediate thought is to yell for help, but I can’t find my voice. I try to take a deep breath, but can’t. I crumple to the tub and feel a strange, tingling sensation zip through my fingertips. “Mom!” I let out a bloodcurdling squeal in a voice I don’t even recognize. My mother runs into the bathroom and slams the shower door open. “What is it?” She is the color of her bleached white towels. “What’s wrong?” “It’s my heart! Something is wrong. Call the hospital.”
