When Jana Richards read her first romance novel, she immediately knew two things: she had to commit the stories running through her head to paper, and they had to end with a happily ever after. She also knew she’d found what she was meant to do. Since then she’s never met a romance genre she didn’t like. She writes contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and historical romance set in World War Two, in lengths ranging from short story to full length novel. What Started My Love of Reading
When I was younger, I hated reading, and in fact, my fourth-grade teacher told me I was the worst reader and writer she has ever taught. I used to dread Drop Everything And Read time so much I would develop headaches just trying to understand the words on the paper. But I was more into anime at the time, so It didn’t bother me all that much when I was out of school. 

One of my favorite anime to watch when I was in fourth and fifth grade was Inuyasha. Inuyasha is about a girl who falls into an old well and gets transported so far back in time that demons and creatures still ruled the Earth. In the first episode, we learn that she is a reincarnation of a priestess and was born with a unique jewel, that holds great power, inside her body. When a creature takes the jewel for its own selfish gain, she shoots it down with a bow and arrow but in the process shatters the jewel and the shards are scattered throughout the land. The whole series is about her and a dog demon, Inuyasha, trying to find the shards before a great evil does. 

Right before sixth grade, the Inuyasha’s anime stopped updating and left me on an insane cliffhanger. I heard that the manga was well past where the anime ended so I went searching for the manga online or some type of place that answered my questions. To my disappointment, I couldn’t find anything, but I did find something else. Fanfiction.net was the home of a plethora of stories all featuring the characters of Inuyasha, and I wanted to read them all. Not long after starting, reading was all I did. Eventually, I even stopped watching television much to the disbelief of my mother.

After I got bored with reading the same plots over and over again, I moved on to book series that had massive fanbases such as Twilight, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games. Most people can say they found their love of reading from Judy Blume, Lois Lowry, Thomas Rockwell, or even J. K. Rowling but I can say I discovered my love of reading through unconventional means, and I find that awesome.

About the Author:
J.L. Sheppard was born and raised in South Florida where she still lives with her husband and sons.
As a child, her greatest aspiration was to become a writer. She read often, kept a journal, and wrote countless poems. She attended Florida International University and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors in Communications. During her senior year, she interned at NBC Miami, WTVJ. Following the internship, she was hired and worked in the News Department for three years.
It wasn’t until 2011 that she set her heart and mind into writing her first completed novel, Demon King’s Desire, which was first published in January 2013.
