Tues. Mask and Social Distancing Protocol for After You Get a COVID Vaccine, Ryan Field Books

Mask and Social Distancing Protocol for After You Get a COVID Vaccine

Tony and I were lucky enough to get the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine last Friday through our doctor in Philadelphia. We both qualified and we had been having trouble getting any vaccine because this area...the Philadelphia suburbs...were just not getting any of the vaccines. And we're going to be making a huge move very soon and we also wanted to get the vaccine before the move. I'll post more about that later.

Thankfully, w...

"Who to Follow," or, "Whom to Follow," On Twitter's Bad Grammar, Ryan Field Books

"Who to Follow," or, "Whom to Follow," On Twitter's Bad Grammar

Here's and article that talks about something I see on Twitter all the time. In the sidebar on Twitter they write, "Who to follow." Now, I always thought it should be "Whom to Follow." And for many it really should be, "Whom to Follow." But there's a distinction made now all the time about common usage. And to be honest, I can't be a hypocrite about this because I've always been a fan of common usage. Common usage is a good example o...

Cher Gets Backlash Over George Floyd Tweet, Ryan Field Books

Cher Gets Backlash Over George Floyd Tweet

I watched all this unfold last night on Twitter and I can't say I'm shocked. It's not the first time Cher has shown her straight white privilege and I am certain it won't be the last.

It's just that this time the Tweet was really in such poor taste that it made her look even less aware than usual. The people I saw Tweeting about what she said were genuinely hurt right down to the core.

"Was talking with mom and she said 'I watched the trial of policeman ...

Netflix's "Special" Season Two Is Dropping This Month, Ryan Field Books

Netflix's "Special" Season Two Is Dropping This Month

I love the TV show "Special" and I love the guy who is responsible for it, Ryan O'Connell. Ryan O'Connell stars in the show and he created it. The series is based on Ryan's memoir, I'm Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves, which is wonderful in itself. But the series is smart, on target, and taps into topics we normally don't hear in LGBTQ stories in the mainstream. And that's because Ryan O'Connell isn't a straight who is faking it.

I ju...

BMX Pro Corey Walsh Comes Out As Gay, Ryan Field Books

BMX Pro Corey Walsh Comes Out As Gay

I'm a huge fan of anything BMX. I always have been. And that goes back a long time. My brother was very into it and to a limited extent, I enjoyed it myself. But I always thought it was such a highly heteronormative atmosphere I never totally embraced it completely. When you're gay you tend to view the world differently sometimes. Apparently, even things are changing in the world of cycling. But look at how long it took.

Corey is one of the first high-profile ...

Lance Bass Is Building America's Biggest Gay Bar, Ryan Field Books

Lance Bass Is Building America's Biggest Gay Bar

In a time when all gay venues have been shuttering and disappearing all over the globe, this story is interesting just from a social POV. To be clear, it wasn't COVID that has been shutting down gay bars. With the onset of gay dating apps, the Internet in general, and more public acceptance from the mainstream, gay bars have been disappearing almost everywhere. Once again, here in New Hope, we had 4 hugely popular gay bars up until most recently. T...

Demi Lovato Is Too Gay To Marry a Man, Ryan Field Books

Demi Lovato Is Too Gay To Marry a Man

I'm not sure how this works because Lovato doesn't actually say she's gay. Right now she simply says she's "too gay to marry a man." So what? I'm too gay to ever even think about marrying a woman. That's not going to change in 5 or 10 years from now. And I'm proud of that. That's how it usually works. But Lovato seems to think she might change her mind? Maybe she's bisexual? I'm honestly not sure and I'm not making any assumptions here. It's just confusing, i...

Historical Julius's Gay Bar May Shutter Because of COVID, Ryan Field Books

Historical Julius's Gay Bar May Shutter Because of COVID

Here's a story about another gay bar that could potentially be a casualty of COVID.  I know that most gay venues...including bars and restaurants...have been closing over the last decade for fairly solid reasons. There doesn't seem to be a need for them anymore. I'm not getting into that now. But people don't realize that there are still gay bars that have been hanging on in certain places, and now thanks to COVID they may have to shut down...

Gay Priests Break Their Silence, Ryan Field Books

Gay Priests Break Their Silence

One thing you rarely ever hear about are gay priests who are out of the closet. But even that seems to be changing. And it’s about time.

Father Greiten "came out" to his congregation in this Milwaukee suburb about three years ago, at age 51, when he announced, "I am a gay priest, and a celibate priest."

Here’s more.  Straight priests are celibate too. I think this might be a good example of what I often say about gay being more than just sex or sexuality. I know m...

Are They Straight-Washing Leonardo da Vinci’s life? Ryan Field Books

Are They Straight-Washing Leonardo da Vinci’s life?

Oh, I've seen filmmakers and authors do things like this before. They will take a historical figure and straight-wash everything about his/her life, and the straight people won't even know any better...even those who are allegedly our allies. Every single year without fail I see Walt Whitman's birthday trending on Twitter and not ONE straight will actually mention that he might have been gay. They won't even suggest that there's a possibility. I...
